Thank you Danny. I first heard you when I was 16 years old and your playing changed my life. It pointed the way to a life in music. Legend.

Love your playing. Was bc listening Pentagles first lp the other day on a friends stupidly expensive set up and my God what an amazing sounding lp, and your playing and sound was just amazing on this system. It had the presence in the room of all the body and wood of your bass and you.. bloody incredible..

You know we rarely get an opportunity to thank our hero's.
I've been listening to you since I first heard Nick Drakes Five Leaves Left as a 15 year old back in the early 1980s. That got me on a musical journey (by looking to see who played on what) got me listening to Pentangle and Fairport and John & Beverly (didn't get too much of the English folkies here in Ireland at the time). But just wanted to say, thank you!

I love the bit about naming chords, when he first started out.
    It's so relatable.
In our old band we had a chord that no one knew what it was, so we named it "Juanita".

Great to stumble on this Danny, I was just watching you on the Transatlantic Sessions and had forgot Victoria's name so was looking it up and fell on here :) I have great memories of serving you and fixing your and Daf's cars at School Garage and the generous lend of the WEM Bass cabinet you lent me when I was trying to learn the electric bass and resulting complaints dad (Ray) got from the neighbours due to me thumping out a thin bass line at high volume accompaniment to all of Status Quo's Pile Driver LP :) I've still got that same electric bass that dad bought me when I was 15 and still can't play it :P Shame to as I now live up on a Scottish hillside in the middle of a forest with very few neighbours to bother :) Really great so see you still doing what you love, and I'l take this as an opportunity to thank you for all the music you have given the world, not just your own but all the session work for many of the mainstream artists that probably many are unaware you provide the backing for. I cant help having a giggle when I remember you telling me when you were in the studio with Kate Bush .... bless her .... again thanks for being a great person to know back then in the 1970's and for sharing your life with us all (Laurie)

I love that you can hear him on so many albums (eg Kate Bush, Sam Brown, Peter Gabriel, Talk Talk, David Sylvian etc ) and say "that sounds like Danny Thompson playing bass!" and they look at the cover notes and say 'wow, youre right'!

      I'd guess he means musically.
He's talking 1957 or so, well before the big boom of the swinging 60s.
In a relatively small community of musicians, where everyone knew everyone else, someone like him could end up playing with a wide range of artists and styles of music.
