- BY8 is crossing the AK lift bridge from Elizabeth New Jersey into the New York City borough of Staten Island with double stacks for the new york container terminal. That is the Goethels bridge in the foreground
For 30 years, I've always seen that bridge in the up position. Since mid-July, I've seen that bridge in the down position 3 out of the past 4 times I've driven past it on the NJ Turnpike! Its cool to catch a trail going over it! Great video!
My Father told me that when he was little his father would take him and my Uncle to Staten Island and watch them switch at the Car float docks and use to wave at them and use to wave back and sometimes toot there horn.
Excellent. I knew it was back in service, but I've never seen it in the down position. Behold, the longest vertical lift bridge is back in action!!!
This is awesome video.l never new what this bridge was used for, scanning the marine channels found out . I’m trying to pick up scanner frequency for Arlington yard in SI. Not sure if this is linked to chemical coast . Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
That's correct --- it's from 1958, and hadn't been in use until about 2006 or 2007...so it's a rather new thing that they're using it..
@trainzrok what happen to the bridge ive been wonder if trains still go across it
Awesome!!! I have always wanted to the the other Great Lift Span on the East Coast in Action now I have!!! The "other" Bridge I am speaking of is the Buzzards Bay Lift Bridge in Massachusetts!!! Could you ever post the bridge going up and down?
Me and a friend climbed and crossed over this bridge on foot in the mid eighties while it was in the up position at like 11pm,while I was up there I dropped a few m80 firecrackers of the side, and they all went off about 40ft above the water.
Very stupid thing to do at 17yo..very stupid thing to do at any age.
Luckily no train came thru.
Ah yes, brings back memories, i though the ran trash trains across it
excellent.
AFIAK, this is still the longest span of its kind in the world [almost 560 feet].
if it wasn't for this video I wouldn't of know there trains going over that thing.
birds, my cmeras shutter, and a plane heading for a landing at EWR.....cool.....
What did Arthur kill for a chance to ride across the Arthur Kill bridge? Lol

Where were you filming this?
