I got a Virutex AU-93 in the mid 80's, $23 bucks now. It looks like your Fastcap one which they must have copied when the Virutex patent ran out. I still use it all the time and just touch up the blades with a small rat tail file. I also have a Plasti-Cut file I use to smooth the sharp corners of the edging.

Multiple thin passes is better than trying go to hard in one pass. Also expect that the final work will always involve sanding.
Looks like the Woodpecker has finger holes. I think you might be holding it wrong.
ugh,...i *hate* lamination work... what adhesive have you found that you like??
So on my edge banding I like the iron on style that has adhesive on already and melts when heated
Dude Sawdust has edge banding tool videos including using a fabric cutter.

The china"woodpecker" needs a shoulder to keep the whole thing from wiggling up and down
