I flew for the first time last year after 9 years post injury. I was so anxious but I had no reason to be. The staff were amazing, so kind. I flew from the UK to main land Spain. I wish I done it sooner!!!

It was awesome getting to meet you and all your tennis team-mates at the Cajun! Next time I don't think Mr. Crosby stands a chance at winning in such a close match, you totally have it next time! Good luck to you all in your next tournaments and I hope to see you and the team at Nationals!

Thanks for sharing, Sydney. I can’t imagine how athletic and skilled you have to be to play tennis! Amazing.
Glad you had a good flight.
Those flight attendants seemed like they were very helpful.
You’re looking so beautiful and happy!!!

So glad you've been able to fly and feel comfortable doing it. I think flight is one of our greatest inventions, even beating out the smartphone in importance. (Or am I just that old?)
Wow great seeing you back in the tennis. Regards young lady!

I love watching your videos … I’m curious about your flying experience … did you get any kind of special briefing on what to do in the event of an emergency evacuation ??? I’m a private pilot and always try to get a seat close to an emergency exit … I’m guessing they didn’t put at an exit because you might keep it blocked for too long trying to get out, but is someone assigned to help you during an evacuation???

I’m glad it was a great experience to think my biggest concern is security and all I have to ask for a hand screening.

Most of the complaints I’ve heard regarding flying with wheelchairs is in regards to power chairs. They are super expensive if damaged and many power chair users don’t have good core control so they’d rather stay in their chairs. I hear that they are working on legislation to make this happen. I heard it passed but will take time before the airlines can make it happen

I am glad to see that the airlines took such good care of you and your wheelchair. That’s not always the case. So I am glad that you had a wonderful experience. What airline did you fly with? As a disabled person, I would love to know, so that I can fly the same airline. Looks like you had a wonderful time. Can’t wait to hear more of your tennis journey.

Is your chair insured? If it were damaged in travel, would it be covered?

Since being on a wheelchair I took a flight an handful of time andn almost everytime something happened, expecially international flight.
Hearing someone say that you should not fill a claim for a popped tire is frustrating, luckily it was on the way back! Also I learned that I can take my wheels on the plane, but it s up to the pilot allow extra items on the plan ("and what if they don't" is always at the back of your mind).
Also, if you fly with a group for an event you are more likely to be treated better than if you are a random person booking a flight, this being said from a lot of my friends that travel for work and sport events... companies need to improve their policies when it comes to passengers with special needs

Hi Sydney, have you heard of CRPS? I have diagnosed severe L4 nerve damage and probably some mild L3 and L5 also, all as a result of a spine surgery. I was also diagnosed with type2 CRPS right after surgery. My pain is always high in my left leg from above the knee all the way to my my foot but also with some numbness and my knee doesn’t lock. The inability to lock is technically why that leg can’t function for walking. I can’t wear a brace in it because of allodynia from the CRPS. I try to use a walker most of the time but I can’t walk long distances so sometimes I will use my wheelchair. Anyway, I am about to fly for the first time since this happened to me and I have been really nervous. Because of the horror stories I decided not to take my wheelchair and just rent one at our destination. Buuuut, I wonder if maybe I should take my chair. I have a couple of questions for you. You said something like separating the cushion and the side thingies? Like, what do you mean? Where do put it/take it? Also, do you have any idea how someone disabled who can use the bathroom gets there without walker or a cane? Delta told me they wouldn’t let me take that on 😞🤷‍♀️

Have you played wheelchair pickleball? I love it. It has the same 2 bounce rule. I wear cycling gloves when playing to prevent blisters.
