  • Jimi Hendrix had African American and Irish ancestry. His paternal grandfather, Bertran Philander Ross Hendrix, was born in 1866 from an extramarital affair between a woman named Fanny and a grain merchant from Urbana, Ohio, or Illinois, one of the wealthiest men in the area at that time.[4][nb 1] Hendrix's paternal grandmother, Zenora "Nora" Rose Moore, was a former dancer and vaudeville performer.[6][nb 2] Hendrix and Moore relocated to Vancouver, where they had a son they named James Allen Hendrix on June 10, 1919; the family called him "Al".[13]
    In 1941, after moving to Seattle, Washington, Al met Lucille Jeter (1925-1958) at a dance; they married on March 31, 1942.[14] Lucille's father (Jimi's maternal grandfather) was Preston Jeter (born 1875), whose mother was born in similar circumstances as Bertran Philander Ross Hendrix.[15] Lucille's mother, née Clarice Lawson, had African American ancestors who had been enslaved people.[16] Al, who had been drafted by the US Army to serve in World War II, left to begin his basic training three days after the wedding.[17] Johnny Allen Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942, in Seattle; he was the first of Lucille's five children. In 1946, Johnny's parents changed his name to James Marshall Hendrix, in honor of Al and his late brother Leon Marshall.[18][nb 3]
    Stationed in Alabama at the time of Hendrix's birth, Al was denied the standard military furlough afforded servicemen for childbirth; his commanding officer placed him in the stockade to prevent him from going AWOL to see his infant son in Seattle. He spent two months locked up without trial, and while in the stockade received a telegram announcing his son's birth.[6][nb 4] During Al's three-year absence, Lucille struggled to raise their son.[22] When Al was away, Hendrix was mostly cared for by family members and friends, especially Lucille's sister Delores Hall and her friend Dorothy Harding.[23] Al received an honorable discharge from the US Army on September 1, 1945. Two months later, unable to find Lucille, Al went to the Berkeley, California, home of a family friend named Mrs. Champ, who had taken care of and attempted to adopt Hendrix; this is where Al saw his son for the first time.[24]
    After returning from service, Al reunited with Lucille, but his inability to find steady work left the family impoverished. They both struggled with alcohol, and often fought when intoxicated. The violence sometimes drove Hendrix to withdraw and hide in a closet in their home.[25] His relationship with his brother Leon (born 1948) was close but precarious; with Leon in and out of foster care, they lived with an almost constant threat of fraternal separation.[26] In addition to Leon, Hendrix had three younger siblings: Joseph, born in 1949, Kathy in 1950, and Pamela, 1951, all of whom Al and Lucille gave up to foster care and adoption.[27] The family frequently moved, staying in cheap hotels and apartments around Seattle. On occasion, family members would take Hendrix to Vancouver, Canada to stay at his grandmother's. A shy and sensitive boy, he was deeply affected by his life experiences.[28] In later years, he confided to a girlfriend that he had been the victim of sexual abuse by a man in uniform.[29] On December 17, 1951, when Hendrix was nine years old, his parents divorced; the court granted Al custody of him and Leon.[30]

    I wrote a letter to Al in 1982 telling him how much I loved Jimi's music. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found a letter in my mailbox in June of 1982 from Al a very gracious man. He sent me a photo of him and Jimi standing next to a car in their drive way. I framed that photo and letter. It was stolen from me a year later. I was struck by the kindness of Al.

    Is that singing and playing of the piano actually of Jimi's funeral or is it of a separate recording of Pastor Wright's? If it is the actual recording of the piano and singing it is very well preserved over all these years and is very clear when listening to it! Beautiful voice she has! Is she still alive?

      There's no evidence he broke anything, back nor ankle, and that he lied to a therapist or anybody in the military that he wasn't _straight_ just to get out. Fact is he was caught sleeping on the job (he'd wash walls etc) and one time instead of washing walls he was in the latrine masturbating caught by two of the men in his detail. You can see their statements here
      catalog d o t archives do o t gov/OpaAPI/media/57288864/content/st-louis/military/rg-319/299741/300_Hendrix_James d oot pdf
      It details the reasons he was inducted/enlisted into the army including one of them in Hendrix's own handwriting with a pen that he was caught with stolen clothes. He and his friend stole clothes and both were caught giving away the garments that didn't fit them at their school Christmas fund. The "system" didn't record this, Hendrix wrote that statement himself.
      So, there's a lot of missing pieces here and there but it's quite the fact that he wasn't discharged due to breaking his ankle or a back injury, according to those archived records in the above u-r-l which also is pasted here catalog d o t archives do o t gov/OpaAPI/media/57288864/content/st-louis/military/rg-319/299741/300_Hendrix_James d oot pdf

    a lot of jealousy towards Hendrix. But for what reason? a man who served for his country and regardless of what he chose to wear or do; made it easier for other people who are living rather than trying to be something. I dont know, it seems everyone has their own way of wanting people to be, rather than just accepting them as they are...

      @@beeftheheat Leon always questioned his dad about his paternity, he said that his dad would answer him and say, "boy I'm your daddy, stop asking me, I'm always going to be your daddy". Janie was in charge of Al while he was sick after her mother died, she coerced him into changing his will (she might have even done it herself who knows). At that time, Leon was on drugs so that might have had a lot to do with it, but it's still wrong. There is so much to this story, it's not even funny. The ONLY reason we know that Leon is not Al's biological son is because Janie had the court order him to take a blood test. The tests show that Al was not the biological father of Leon which then put Janie ahead of Leon, seeing as how she was the legal adopted daughter of Al. She went through a lot to get her hands on this estate, and she made sure no one else can touch it but her. Leon and Jimi grew up together Jimi took care of Leon because their dad was too busy working and sometimes partying and drinking to take care of them. Jimi stepped up and took on the father-figure roll to Leon, because I guess he had to, they are five years apart with Jimi being the oldest. Leon and Jimi were very very close. Jimi Hendrix had nothing to do with Janie, outside of meeting her a couple of times. She was eight years old when he died, he was too busy and famous to get to know her like she swears he did. You just have to do your own research but there is a lot to this story, a lot of documentaries and interviews with people that were close to him, especially his brother Leon.

    • @kd2838
      @kd2838 Рік тому +2

      It's really weird, because she made sure Leon took a blood test to make sure that Al wasn't his biological dad so that she could keep Jimi Hendrix estate and money, but she will not let any one who thinks they might be Jimi Hendrix child take a blood test over fear that she might lose the the estate. So we will never know if Jimi Hendrix had any children and the children that think he is their biological dad will never know either, because Janie has made sure of it.

      So many celebrities seem to have had highly strenuous childhoods. Not sure about percentage of entire population though.
      As you seem to be a serious Hendrix fan, I have one more thought about his legacy. In the movie starring Andre 3000, Hendrix beats his girlfriend with a telephone. The girl herself (You probably know her name) stated in an interview that nothing like that ever happened, and that Jimi was a sweet guy to her, etc. Makes you wonder about these so-called Biographies, and their intentions (I also saw one where M. Jackson's 3 personal bodyguards denied any knowledge of him abusing kids).
      I was additionally disappointed by A 3000 agreeing to do that if he knew it to be a lie and blatant misrepresentation of a great black hero (of course, Mr. H. had Cherokee?, and Causasion? lineage as well, if I remember correctly; but you understand my point). I guess when the Big Movie is on offer, most feel the need to do it and let the public learn the truth elsewhere.

      @@DeeNice681I read that there was never a DNA test done for Leon, only for Joe, who looked exactly like Al.
      Since Joe's test came back negative for him being Al's son, it was decided not to test Leon. Since Al raised Leon, his paternity was a moot point by then.
