Her voice and this song remind me of some distant memory that I can't quite put a finger on. The closest thing I can come up with is listening to some old 50's or 60's record with my grandma. That still doesn't really hit the mark though. All I know is I'm in awe of Hope and her vocal style.
Unreal. I listened to Mazzy Star for years, and never wondered what the band looked like. No photos on any of the albums that I saw. Their music just blew me away so much I never stopped to think of them as anything but pure music.
Unreal and very special experience. Just listening them for years and been captivated by them just by listening, may be the same or more captivating seeing them perform, the same music that one enjoyed in part of a lifetime. I feel it.

You make a great point Sean. Dave was crucial to MS. I guess the reason we all focus on hope is because the integration of his guitar is so smooth and flawless it sort of becomes one sound and so many of us MS fans are just hearing the voice and guitar flow as one. He was definitely crucial to MS
@@lechanneldemysterieuxmante1807 With a great band there is a sort of alchemy at work, something that is impossible to predict or replicate. This is why when so many musicians go out on their own because they front a band - or become the poster boy or girl for a band - its just not the same and they are never as successful afterward. There is generally a crucial relationship between two members of a band that seems to be central to their ethos and sound, but in other cases its three or even four that make the mix. Sometimes its a sort of interpersonal turbulence that makes a band what it is, which is why they don't last. (Like the great quote from The Third Man about Switzerland and Italy in the Renaissance) With Mazzy Star, it was the interaction between Dave Roback and Hope Sandoval, the moody lyrics, Hope's mesmerizing, almost hypnotic singing was ideally matched by Roback's fuzzy guitar work. Either one of them without the other was just not the same. But how many bands maintain a great creative pitch over more than two or three albums anyway? Perhaps in the end we are fortunate in that they didn't try to go on and on or to try to commercialize their sound as the label wanted. Better to leave us with some unforgettable music that I believe sounds as good as it did thirty years ago. I first saw them (I think) at a small club in Hollywood with a musician friend visiting from London, not one of the clubs on the strip, but a club closer to Fairfax. The lights were low (as Hope preferred) and she never made any eye contact with the smallish crowd, but the songs were wonderful and her performance seemed to be more powerful because of the introspective, trance-like state she seemed to be in when she sang.
We used to eat acid in the 90s and go out walking around all night. The next morning we would listen to Mazzy Star and rehash the last night. The perfect music to reflect.
Love her voice. It is so calming and makes you listen to every word she sings. People have no choice but to just listen. Just like a child listening to a lullaby.
Strange, how everyone here talks of Hope as if though she's no longer with us. She's still alive, kicking, singing, and is still as beautiful as her age has allowed her to be. Ageism is quite bizarre
I absolutely love her and the band but listening to her makes me want to cry ! There is something so "real" and profound about it that it for me reminds me of the ultimate sadness of life ... Bums here we go again ..

There's a timeless quality with Hopes voice and the music. Hope is now 56 years old!
Good that she is still around, though.
