thank you every viewers.
RIP Shockwave - you will be sorely missed.
Shockwave was easily my all-time favorite coaster - it was the one that made me into the full-fledged coaster junkie that I am today. I must've rode it 10 times in one day back in 1994 during my second day at Six Flags (made use of their Twicket gimmick, IIRC).
emphasis on sorely!
MISS YOU TONS! BACKSEAT BROS! AND those blackouts ;)
i never got the chance to ride this but my dad did. his home park growing up was great america just as mine is, he said he remembered everything about if, from the tv ads to each ride he had on it. he said that most of the time he would gray out while riding but it was very memorable for him.
Worst headache ever until I meet my wife
That’s sad kind of
Lol someone is 10 years old
I was born in 2001 in Wisconsin and we would come here every couple years but now that I live way closer and have been going here every season for the past four years, it makes me sad that I never got to ride shockwave, it was one of my cousin favorite rides if not his favorite. So sad.
awesome! i wish shock wave was still there :(
so sad. i spent my childhood on this
I'm getting whiplash just from watching this
I have lived in Gurnee for 32 years now and I have ridden shock wave many many times. It was a very sad day to see it go!! It was by far the best ride I have ever been on! Goliath is pretty damn crazy with is huge drop, barrel rolls, and upside down hangers, but its too short!!! Same with the new Joker too short! Currently the Raging Bull is the best ride in the park super smooth, fast, and a good long ride. The legendary American Eagle gets second place as it is an icon of the park every time you ride this wooden coaster there is definitely a possibility of death no joke. They need to bring Kingda Ka here from New Jersey!!! This will bring back the fire we miss with the Shock Wave!!!!!! Just do it!
They are putting up maxx force. Launch coaster. Looks good but to short as well.
"Don't be sad that it's over, be glad that it happened."
One of the best I miss this coastet
i remember riding the shockwave, i was 13, my ears would bang all over the shoulder pad, rough ride but fun
Yuppp
Thanks so much for compiling all this in one place!
Watching tlc no scrubs in a packed area and blacking our after the first loop will always be here for me. 😀. Was a great ride !
Shockwave was a pretty rough ride but I can see the appeal that it has..So I feel people's pain about losing that ride because I would feel the exact same way if they got rid of vortex at Kings island..
And they both have so many things in common especially that people either love it or hate it..
😂😂❤️❤️
Yeah Shockwave really polarized people. It was an even split between my group of friends, of people who loved or hated it. I LOVED that thing and I HATE that is was replaced with a bland flying coaster with the terribly over-used name and theming of Superman. I might be going to King's Island later this month though and I'm really excited to check out Vortex for the first time. Next to Viper in Magic Mountain Vortex seems to be the closest coaster that resembles Shockwave.
@@Chillguy99 yea that agree...
Let me know how you like the Vortex..
The thing I hear the most days is you will have a great ride depending on where you sit so my advice would be to ride it a few times and change up the seating..
@@thtoneguy0321 Yeah man I'll let you know. I heard that it's less rough in the center of the train somewhere but yeah I'll make sure to give it a shot in a few different seats.
@@Chillguy99 Sounds good man I wish I could ride it again for the first time..
But Yea I've had great experiences in the middle section of trains...
But also had really fun times in the front and back so it just really depends lol
Vortex is gone :(
@pinkhott29 Yes i know your feeling, i will make a deja vu tribute sometime this year hopefully, and did you know Shockwave's lift moder is on demon?
I rode. Shock wave over 300 times . I miss it best ride in park ...
This ride was painful but fun. My earring post got stuck in my neck! Last time I ever wore earring to go to an amusement park.
I think the original plan was to relocate or sell this coaster, but it sat in storage for two years. In 2004, the parts were scrapped when it didn't get sold/relocated.
I kind of doubt that they were fully all in on planning to relocate the ride. Initially, that was the case, as they were dismantling it very carefully in some of the pictures of the early phases of removal. However, coasters of this era were built where each track section and support structure were welded together as one solid unit while the spines were bolted together. This would mean that to disassemble the ride, they would have to cut the ride apart piece by piece and then rebuild and reweld it in its new location. That would have been extremely costly and time-consuming, which could be why in photos of the later half of disassembly, you see the track being carelessly cut apart. The park just didn’t see the value in relocating this ride with all the design flaws that it had as time went on.
They should have scraped the whizzed and shock wave could not have been chopped live
Our park lost a good chunk of its mojo when this was removed. I wish this hadn’t been removed until we had a giant coaster ready to take its spot.
Shockwave unfortunately was a maintenance migraine for the park as the thing had many design flaws like the trains going faster than they were supposed to, track fracturing, and even the train wheels wearing out weekly.
2:15 is that red part in the background on the top right SUPERMAN
Hard to tell
Rip shockwave
nicole mueller Raging Bull supports
Damn I miss this ride
Beautiful baby done.
backcart on shockwave was the roughest ride ever... my fav of all time
There is only one of this type of a roller coaster left in the world and that’s at six flags magic mountain and is expensive to opperate.
@SixFlagsGeek and i wish deja vu too :(. atleast demon is still there i love the arrow mega loopers lol
still watch this and get sad...
It still exists. Six flags magic mountain Valencia California. Its called the viper. Same layout.
Justin De Fiblander last one standing!!!
I'm rlly sad cause I was born in 2004 and I never even knew about this ride until I started looking more into coasters a year back or two. But Shockwave looks super fun. I still can't believe sfgam took down something so legendary. And it wasn't at least relocated to somewhere else. And then the last of these is Viper at sfmm and I went there before but I was little and scared to go on. So now I can't ride the last one because it's rumored to be token down THIS YEAR and I'm not making any plans to go all the way to California anytime soon. 😭😭😭 Life sucks
Just in case you are interested, I was recently in Ohio and went on Vortex at Kings Island. Although it isn't Shockwave, I still found it pretty thrilling; and another plus is that this ride isn't planned on being removed anytime soon.
Bryan Terry VIPER IS HERE TO STAY!!!!!! I CAN VOUCH FOR IT!!!!
SOOOOOOO....... If you HAVEN'T ALREADY, come on out and ride the snake!!!!!!
It's rough yes, but it's guaranteed to give you what you missed, of not having experienced Shockwave!!!
Sean Lewis I actually did happen to ride viper last summer! It was a cool experience, it may not be the exact same ride, but I’m definitely satisfied that I got the chance to get a similar feeling!
@@KotoriHabane Now it’s removed lol
@@KotoriHabane Now it’s removed lol
@SFGAmZone Thanks. I will defiantly ask next time, sorry about the incoveniance.
Can this ride be made again with the exact same layout but modernized or will it still have the same problems?
MrGodsChaos Arrow Dynamics has been out of business since 2002. So they can’t rebuild it.
@@tigerrocks503chase8 S&S can rebuild it.
Harrison Schneider They could....but I don’t know if it can look exactly like the original.
@@tigerrocks503chase8 It can be better
True as well, considering that the original flopped.
@isaiah406 So meany problems, its hard to even start, head achs badly after, low capacity due to that. That was one of the biggest problems.
SixFlagsGeek you wedge your head to one side against the headrest the whole ride. This reduces head injury. Me and a friend did this. We're able to marathon ride 10 times, till vertigo set in
This is what i hate about six flags. They replace originals with coasters that are in over 5 other parks!
But I rode The Great American Scream Machine and it is very rough
shockwave!!!!!!!!!!
Shockwave is Closed
@pinkhott29 yep!
@SixFlagsGeek ok cool! :). Yah i read that lol i guess its pretty cool
Originally they were going to demolish Whizzer and put Superman there, keeping this. So what do you think? Should they have kept Shockwave or Whizzer?
they should had keep Shockwave of course; Whizzer is crap and Superman is crap as well
Devy Valentino Superman it's fun but the Whizzer should of bit the bullet. Loved the ShockWave!
Devy Valentino First of all WHIZZER IS NOT CRAP ITS ONE OF THE PARKS OLDEST AND CLASSIC COASTERS. 😡Shockwave was cool but it had too go away. multiple reasons. First of all the ride was way to rough to enjoy. Secondly the ride had constant downtime and mechanical problems that became far to expensive to keep working. And 3 the Whizzer is a classic roller coaster. The ride has been in the park since it first opened and it’s classic and much more reliable. Whizzer might not be as big and fast as shockwave. But it is an ACE landmark. Plus there was an incident where shockwaves loop track cracked making the track unstable. This made shockwave dangerous. Do you care about people’s lives?
Shock wave
@@tigerrocks503chase8 You must be a fan of Deja Vu.
@pinkhott29 i know what you mean :(
Did they tear it down or take it apart piece-by-piece?
BLACKHAWKSVISION I think they took it down, peace by peace.
most of the track was melted
BLACKHAWKSVISION deconstruction is piece by piece......opposite of construction
DESTRUCTION is tearing down completely.........or blowing up
Letting it fly since you linked back, but in the future please ask *prior* to using any content from the Zone. Thanks.
why'd they get rid of it?
To make way for superman.
how tall ?
+christian martin 155 feet tall. It was the tallest in its class in 1988. Top speed of 65 mph. I rode it from '88-'99. I miss it.
it was 170ft with a 155ft drop
Never was a big fan of shockwave. Still hated to see it go
I own this ride. It's here in my backyard
Rest in piece lol
Italianlad69 glad someone finally caught it after 7 years lol
