@57highland The first step there is to get Catholic and evangelical influence away from our institutions. They're manipulating our hospitals, schools, libraries, and our local communities. We have to secure secular funding to ensure that we have quality services instead of institutions being pressured into conforming to the Catholic and evangelical doctrines. If we taxed real estate owned by catholics maybe the real estate industry wouldn't have the largest, most powerful lobby in Washington.
Now it's time to pay back the workers. Workers took cuts during that emergency. Most importantly, they gave up their cost of living adjustment. Batteries have a lot of problems too. Much better to develop towns and cities with more mass transit and stop the inundation of cars on the roads. I am all for lowering the compensation of these top tier people, and using the money saved to help line workers but think the auto workers are asking for much too much. People who serve senior citizens or pre school and other service industries make almost nothing. More attention needs to be given to the people at the bottom who are the ones who often do the hardest jobs.
I am very impressed with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She came into congress as a firebrand, with a clear and stated set of progressive goals. From there she could have been a loud, but mostly ineffective bullhorn for those goals. But in the course of her time in Congress, while keeping faith with her progressive views, she's demonstrated an intelligent pragmatism and an understanding of the need to negotiate, compromise, and craft working legislation. Well done. I'd love to see more leaders like her on both the left and the right.

Say what? Tesla is an American company with American workers. She bought American. And yes, there were few electric cars a few years ago. Biden set the tax incentive to those cars made in the US only as a way to induce Americans to buy American built EVs. Eventually, the South Koreans will built plants here to make them. The big three are lagging behind the Europeans and Chinese. They know the writings on the wall. If we allowed the Chinese to build plants here or import here, they would be toast. The Chinese have developed EVs for every purpose. And what does GM do, stop production of the Bolt, an affordable EV to make more EV trucks. Beyond stupid. There are EVs available in Europe like the MG4 that are affordable, have good range, and are fun to drive. Europe and Asia are way ahead of us in alternative energy and transition to EVs. When the new battery tech like solid state batteries as Toyota is developing, gets going in the next few years, and the infrastructure improves, you won’t have to worry about range anxiety. I plan on buying a full electric affordable small truck when they get to that point.

She's right about most of it, but when she says that these migrants are getting lots of medical care and placement and free rent and food, etc., she is validating the anger/rage that exists in the right wingers who cannot afford the very things that we are providing for free to migrants. I see the same thing in my own case. I pay almost crippling amounts of money for the same dental care that many Medicaid patients get for free or reduced costs. Lots of middle class people are living paycheck to paycheck and have no access or limited access to medical and especially dental care, and these people see those who aren't even Americans or who do not even try to work get benefits for nothing (and their "chicks for free." no monopoly is good whether it be a company or a union. making entire industries dependent on a single power structure is bad. period. does not matter who/what that single power is. A Union that controlls the labor at an entire industry is a national scurity risk and a monopoly as much as a company that owns an entire industry. Apply the same anti monopoly logic and laws to the unions. I support individual company based unions. Complete industries controlled by a single unions is a call back to medieval guilds. Let's not go backwards to that age. Single company based unions still can negotiate just fine but without the risk and impact on the rest of the nation and economy.
Broad based sanctions just don't work, especially if they are essentially a permanent feature. Sanctions in response to a certain event, like the invasion of Ukraine are one thing, but keeping broad sanctions up for years just doesn't work, look at Iran, North Korea, Cuba, etc. Much better to do targeted sanctions, go after the agents that facilitate the bad guys' money laundering, seize their assets, etc. That would be much better than trying to impoverish tens of millions because they happen to live under a dictatorial government

The Democratic party is very much not in good hands and to pretend otherwise is doing a disservice to every person who lives in this country. A vast majority of politicians in both parties are bought and paid for by lobbyists, and if they manage to stay clear of this corruption, they trade stocks based on inside information to make huge sums of money. This game is corrupted to the core and needs transformation. The few like AOC when she first entered congress are few and far between and rarely in actual positions of power within congress (eg. Bernie). We need to confront this reality or they will continue to steal from us in the form of privatized healthcare, low wages, no worker benefit requirements, tax loopholes etc. The fact that Biden is the most progressive president since FDR is a sad statement. We deserve so much more.

So AOC is driving around in a car that is designed to monitor her and it is fully networked so that Tesla can see everything that goes on with the cars computer system, and Elon is the one in charge of that.
So AOC just has to trust that Elon isn't spying on her whilst she is driving her Tesla, and the only thing that stops Elon from spying on her is pure trust.

Batteries have a lot of problems too. Much better to develop towns and cities with more mass transit and stop the inundation of cars on the roads. I am all for lowering the compensation of these top tier people, and using the money saved to help line workers but think the auto workers are asking for much too much. People who serve senior citizens or pre school and other service industries make almost nothing. More attention needs to be given to the people at the bottom who are the ones who often do the hardest jobs.
I am very impressed with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She came into congress as a firebrand, with a clear and stated set of progressive goals. From there she could have been a loud, but mostly ineffective bullhorn for those goals. But in the course of her time in Congress, while keeping faith with her progressive views, she's demonstrated an intelligent pragmatism and an understanding of the need to negotiate, compromise, and craft working legislation. Well done. I'd love to see more leaders like her on both the left and the right.

The problem with Tesla isn't the cars -- the problem is the right-wing lunatic who owns the company.
Say what? Tesla is an American company with American workers. She bought American. And yes, there were few electric cars a few years ago. Biden set the tax incentive to those cars made in the US only as a way to induce Americans to buy American built EVs. Eventually, the South Koreans will built plants here to make them. The big three are lagging behind the Europeans and Chinese. They know the writings on the wall. If we allowed the Chinese to build plants here or import here, they would be toast. The Chinese have developed EVs for every purpose.
And what does GM do, stop production of the Bolt, an affordable EV to make more EV trucks. Beyond stupid. There are EVs available in Europe like the MG4 that are affordable, have good range, and are fun to drive. Europe and Asia are way ahead of us in alternative energy and transition to EVs. When the new battery tech like solid state batteries as Toyota is developing, gets going in the next few years, and the infrastructure improves, you won’t have to worry about range anxiety.
I plan on buying a full electric affordable small truck when they get to that point.
I'm just amazed here. AOC never worked in a factory. But somehow she's an expert on labor and labor relations.

I see the same thing in my own case. I pay almost crippling amounts of money for the same dental care that many Medicaid patients get for free or reduced costs. Lots of middle class people are living paycheck to paycheck and have no access or limited access to medical and especially dental care, and these people see those who aren't even Americans or who do not even try to work get benefits for nothing (and their "chicks for free." Sorry, I had to do that)

Economic sanctions on Venezuela should absolutely be lifted. They are only hurting the population while the leaders are untouched. The country has become very dangerous because people are desperate. So many people are so uncomfortable that they need to leave. I wonder if it’s the goal of the American government to drive these people to come here to compensate for the lower birth rate and help the economy. Rather terrible way of doing it.
no monopoly is good whether it be a company or a union. making entire industries dependent on a single power structure is bad. period. does not matter who/what that single power is. A Union that controlls the labor at an entire industry is a national scurity risk and a monopoly as much as a company that owns an entire industry. Apply the same anti monopoly logic and laws to the unions. I support individual company based unions. Complete industries controlled by a single unions is a call back to medieval guilds. Let's not go backwards to that age. Single company based unions still can negotiate just fine but without the risk and impact on the rest of the nation and economy.

Broad based sanctions just don't work, especially if they are essentially a permanent feature. Sanctions in response to a certain event, like the invasion of Ukraine are one thing, but keeping broad sanctions up for years just doesn't work, look at Iran, North Korea, Cuba, etc. Much better to do targeted sanctions, go after the agents that facilitate the bad guys' money laundering, seize their assets, etc. That would be much better than trying to impoverish tens of millions because they happen to live under a dictatorial government

The problem with the stock buy back and other arguments is that since we all rely on 401ks to retire, we actually WANT the stock prices to go up. The system has created a very problematic razors edge on which all of this relies.
If the big three go ahead and give them the contract they are asking for, won’t that attract all kinds of experienced workers to support their growth?
Worker's should make the same gains that upper management and stockholders do when distributing profits.
