Actually, Greg took Rachel (Hope Sherwood) to the Drive-in in two different episodes -- first in the 3rd season (where Bobby wins the chin-up contest) and again in the 4th season (after the frog jumping contest). She had the same name in both episodes so I assume she was supposed to be the same character. Hope Sherwood also appeared in the slumber party episode, but in that one her character's name was Jenny Wilton, a friend of Marcia.

Well, it was much more innocent at the time. There were supervised courtings and outings. Some parents had expectations for their children to marry very young, like right out of high school young. So, courting and then dating quite often was not only expected, but encouraged. There are still families that have those old fashioned beliefs. Many devout Christian families push their children to socialize publicly with the oppisite sex to become used to their company as quickly as possible so they can marry in their late teens. That's common practice in the South in certain circles.
