This isn't black face. Black face is when someone colors themselves black or a dark color and then actually tries to imitate Africans or African culture of any origin (American Canadian French whatever), mocking it. This is more the man just dressing up to match the dark atmosphere of the throne room and trend of contrasting elements-dark light, violent peaceful, ugly beautiful. Damn, people, why make everything about race? It's like you *want* to be offended.
And the specific reason here is that in interviews they called Aphex Twin their god. God is black because he made mankind in his image and the first people were from africa. Therefor aphex twin has to be black. It's logical. Seriously though that's why they did that as far as I can tell.
Well he did have a fro on.
And they're South African. So they probably don't know anything about america's history with blackface. I'd say give them a pass for that.

The fact that a minority can paint their face white without anyone really even thinking about it, but a white person can't paint theirs black without everyone making a big deal of it and thinking that they're racist seems kind of racist. It's like that movie White Chicks, when the Marlon brothers dress up as white girls, it's hilarious (I'm a white female, but even I still find the movie hilarious), but God forbid if they ever did a movie with, say, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels dressed as black women. That backlash would be brutal. Kind of a double standard, don't you think? Anyway, though, in this case, I've personally never met anyone whose skin was actually black or white (in real life, humans come in various shades of peaches and browns), any more than I've ever seen anyone who was purple or green, so I don't see how painting yourself black or white is any different than painting yourself purple or green. It's all art to me.

They call it Zef-Rave.
Zef is from South African white trash culture where they could only afford to buy cheap cars like Ford Zephyrs and the had to trick them out with whatever they could come up with on an extremely low budget. In the USA the Zephyr was sold under the Mercury badge but basically the same car. Starting in 1978 thru the late 1990's Ford released what it called its mid-sized "Fox body" platform where most of the parts would interchange. The most famous of these cars were the Mustangs. Because the junkyards were literally full of tons of different configurations even over here it was popular to take for example an old base model Fairmont or Zephyr that you picked up for almost nothing then turn it into a sleeper by swapping parts into it such as Cougar independent rear suspension, Mustang Cobra high performance engines/suspension/brakes, etc...
Although Zef to the SAs means more than just cars. It means trying to be as creatively classy/sexy as you can even though you are piss broke.
