Lots of time showing clear water pass.

Isn’t that just surface debris? How do you get sediment up by a spillway gate - wouldn’t the entire dam be essentially useless at that point? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good point. You can't believe everything you see

@@tehcali OK bot response. You did nothing to answer my technical question of what happens when sediment reaches the top of the dam (ie spillway) essentially rendering the retention area useless as the water depth is now nearly zero.

@@EstorilEm that's a mighty foolish response to someone who is trying to answer your question. to answer it directly, the way you asked -
      "Isn’t that just surface debris?"
that isn't just surface debris, it's all of the debris flowing downriver that's heavier than water.
"How do you get sediment up by a spillway gate -"
you get sediment up by a spillway gate by letting all of the sand and mud and other detritus cake up for years as it flows to the lowest point in the river (the reservoir) and it settles to the bottom.
"wouldn’t the entire dam be essentially useless at that point? 🤷🏻‍♂"
the dam would not be useless at that point, as the water is still being retained and is still flowing through as needed to provide electricity if that's what this dam is for. opening the spillway like this is a regular maintenance procedure, to ensure that the dam will function properly if an emergency release is necessary.
the water depth will never be "nearly zero" because of this regular maintenance.

@@MarcusWolfWanders Well said. I was making assumptions and I appreciate the explanation
