The term 'Ashtakam', is derived from the Sanskrit word asta, meaning “eight”. In context of poetic compositions, ‘ashtakam’ refers to a particular form of poetry, written in eight stanzas. Sri Krishna Ashtakam is recited on almost every event associated with Lord Krishna including Sri Krishna Janmashtami. The Sri Krishna Ashtakam is also played at various Krishna temples regularly. Whosoever chants these eight stanzas, singing the glories of Lord Krishna, with sincere devotion will easily cross over the ocean of this temporal world.
This Krishna Janmashtami special song is to celebrate the birthday of lord Shree Krishna Govind, which is going to enhance the essence of the Krishna Janmashtami festival. Most of the time, Krishna Janmashtami is listed on two consecutive days. The first one is for Smarta Sampradaya and other one is for Vaishanava Sampradaya. Vaishanava Sampradaya date is the latter one. Gokulashtami or Janmashtami is celebrated in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Fiji, USA, Caribbean Islands, etc. A lot of credit goes to International Society for Krishna Consciousness, popularly known as ISKCON.
