    The reason why everyone still asks about the solo is because it touches something deep in your soul. The fact that Scotti took the time to make a video showing note for note how to play it says a lot about his soul. Thanks Scotti.

      @@graeme1744 It's an amazing piece of music for sure! I've been a Skid Row fan since the beginning, messed around with the guitar when I was a kid but never was really serious, I always wanted to learn this solo since the first time I heard it! Now, 32 years later, I'm doing that very thing! To play it right with all the little nuances and bar work, it's dang tough, Scotti is an amazing guitar player and makes it look just so easy! Just like he talks about those damn strings ringing out, he's a master at muting! And for me, if you can't get those bar dumps and correct inflections as he does on the album and the exact same way he does in this video, you're not doing the music justice in my book! I'm not quite there right yet, but since he shared this amazing video, I think I just may have a chance!!

      @AccuracySpeaks 4 роки тому +2

      @@graeme1744 Thank you! You know I understand musicians mixing it up and not wanting to step on someone's toes by playing material note for note, but when you have a classic solo, like the one here, played any other way just ruins it for me! I hear folks covering different solos that play the notes, and play the notes well, but if you don't have that feel, it just ain't the same to me! It'd be like listening to Hotel California and someone just butchering the solos, you just can't do it! You gotta be true to Joe and Don!! You know growing up when I did, we listened to music front to back top to bottom, and I'm glad we did, because it made us listen, and with listening, you learn and music grows on us! These kids nowadays don't listen and they can't hardly communicate because of it! Hell, when we threw a record on, or a tape in, we were committed! Man, I used to keep cassettes in for months on end in the vehicle listening over and over, I'm glad I did too, cause it surely helps me learn the songs because they are etched into my brain! Thanks for the reply, my friend, it's nice to see cool people on here for a change! Take care, and stay safe!

    Even as a drummer, I remember his and Dave's solos were so melodic, rather than just blasting through scales at warp speed. They wrote musical pieces for the song, and therein lies the importance and significance of true song writing. These guys did a superb job of doing that, and having musicians remembering them 30 yrs later, is a testament to that fact. Thanks for the great music Mr. Hill. You're a world class musician.👍

    I remember seeing the overhand move on MTV when I was a kid, thinking it was so badass! That is STILL the most badass looking way to mute, and I still love that solo! It’s just one of those moments that I remember made me want to play a guitar: The Back to the Future Johnny B Goode scene; Eric Clapton sounding incredible while making it look easy; and the Skid Row overhand move in the video! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

    I think this solo stands out so much because, firstly, it's just an incredibly well-written and well-played piece of music. Secondly, rock fans had all been shredded and finger-tapped to death for a decade and this very melodic and unique solo just caught our attention.

    Every note, every harmonic, every dive and delay before the vibrato - there is not a single element in this solo that doesn't speak. It is a masterpiece of simplicity and emotion. The perfect solo.

    I remember playing along to the song and I nailed that squeal at the 40 second mark exactly like it is on the record. I was so stoked. I didn't get any other parts of the solo right, but I got that harmonic squeal. lol

    I'll never forget learning in college music appreciation that 'emotion is the medium of music'. Painters use pigments. Sculptors use clay. Writers use mental images. Musicians use emotions. This could hardly be truer than with a guitar solo like this one. Still gets me choked up after all these years... especially watching the artist go through it like this!

    The reasons people are still asking about the solo is because it's a awesome song and solo but more importantly people are Finally realizing that today's music SUCKS with every band and guitarist playing in some drop C tuning and just how good Skid Row is.
