Engine power is NOT the issue, weight and flotation is! Gross weight, size, and bite of the tracks are also a factor. If the chain didn't brake, the Caterpillar D5 would have won, hands down. Believe me. And it's not "because it's a Cat"! Because, the Claas IS a Cat Challenger, but in green.
Horsepower means nothing in this case. The dozer is less HP, but the gearing and weight give it a mechanical advantage. Had the chain not broken, I think the dozer would win.
I new that small chain want going to last. By the way good way to ruin the transmission on the bulldozers tracked vehicles transmission get very hot when they spin and dig.
The tracks of the D5 are almost smooth.. with proper tracks the dozer would win easily.. Ground pressure is the name of the game in a tug-of-war, and the dozer would win easily.. come on folks!!
thats really stupid to do to exspensive machines....I know its fun to do with pickup trucks and stuff. but those things just have so much power and the parts and labor just arn't really worth the risk of hurting transmission, tracks, drivemotors :p
@Alterego1989 Wrong! A new K series D5 only has about 95hp. That late 70s model in the video has about 77hp. The Cat 55 has the 225hp as posted by the person you tried to correct. Stop spewing BS
If the D5 would've had good track pads it would've pulled the 55 around in circles. My D5BSA will pull more than my Deere 8520T. You cannot beat steel.
Pretty smart using such a small chain on such large equipment
A major factor is the matter of footprint and weight followed by gearing power and hook point
How about torque and horsepower. A million pound tracked vehicle powered by a 3.5 horsepower with infinite gearing wouldn't win.
Oh I remember hearing about this matchup. It was to debunk the rumors that home depot plastic chain won't break.
At 2:00, they guy was either saying "so who's gonna pay for that chain? That was my favorite chain." or "So who won?"
If anybody posts a video of my equipment doing a tug-of-war, they're fired!
good comments, I think like you!
i second that
that comment actualy gave me a good laugh hahaha
awe lighten up and let da emplowees have a little fun with a tug a war
Why ? Have you purchased your equipment for show only. Or is it of poor quality and not to be used ?

this was part of the interview process to become a temporary foreign worker in Canada. They're probably fake tradesman here now with skills like that
What engine does the Claas have?
Horsepower means nothing in this case. The dozer is less HP, but the gearing and weight give it a mechanical advantage. Had the chain not broken, I think the dozer would win.
NICE
The tractor on the left is 225hp VS the D5 is about 90-105hp
I would have bet that chain wouldn't hold before they even hooked up, good try though
I new that small chain want going to last. By the way good way to ruin the transmission on the bulldozers tracked vehicles transmission get very hot when they spin and dig.
la cosa più importante sarebbe eseguire le prove di tiro con la medesima massa (peso) indipendentemente dai cavalli!!!
Afinal quem é que ganhou?
Who won?
They didn't show what part of the chain failed! And they should have known to use a heavy duty chain!
...let's see if we can break our employer's equipment...then we will have a cerveza and a siesta...and do it all again tomorrow...
Good test to find the weakest link!
Eeehhhh. Old vs New. Old>New.
Very enjoyable to find videos proving such.... =]
The only thing this shows is No one around there Owned the tractors OR the chain...
The tracks of the D5 are almost smooth.. with proper tracks the dozer would win easily.. Ground pressure is the name of the game in a tug-of-war, and the dozer would win easily.. come on folks!!
Ha ha! the silly clowns! Good to watch though.
quanto de pressão daria numa disputa dessas???
@Alterego1989 "claas"! sorry man..just had to
Called that from the beginning
Thumbs up if you knew that was gonna happen when U saw the size of the chain at the beginning :P
I want to start an argument but i have no idea about any of this...
did they seriously think that chain was going to hold?
victa stacks I thought the exact same thing.... lol Probably saved someone from getting hurt or something from getting damaged.
you have to get a clevis drawbar on one of them and a straight on the other and pin them together.
No tread on the dozer!
thats really stupid to do to exspensive machines....I know its fun to do with pickup trucks and stuff. but those things just have so much power and the parts and labor just arn't really worth the risk of hurting transmission, tracks, drivemotors :p

The green one has I bigger In Motor and tires

Shinny pew navu -that's wat I heard him say-
Ma quale catena dovete usare un cavo d'acciaio oppure un barra rigida di acciaio!

Quem é Brasileiro da um Joinha..::..::..::..
That chain would barely tow car never mind tug of war with so much horsepower.
necesitan una cadena mas resistente
CHE 2 TITANI!!!
105 HP CAT 3306 ENGINE.
My vote for caterpillar
If the D5 would've had good track pads it would've pulled the 55 around in circles. My D5BSA will pull more than my Deere 8520T. You cannot beat steel.
oo
Cat vs Cat... everybody wins except chain lol

@Alterego1989 d5 is nowhere near 180 hp

the action was in Italy :P
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha FAIL!
@Chalrlie26 ti faresti solo un favore.... e magari impari pure a lavorare, che non guasta mai.....
Foolish
Many of you commentators on here are idiot's. Farm tracks are dual intended for highway use, so they don't have the traction of standard dozer tracks
faceva schifo !!!!
