Sublime and The Offspring are among the few bands who wrote songs about horrible shit that were completely upbeat and are in total contrast to their subject matter.
He's with the aliens from Roswell, Elvis, Bob Marley, Kurt Cobain, 2pac, and The Notorious B.I.G. smokin' a fatty while looking up at the stars right now.
@@ABoxOfCartonJuice Marcille is a character from a manga and anime series called Dungeon Meshi (or Delicious in Dungeon in English). This is the happiest sad song I've ever heard. I remember rocking out to this when I was 14 with some of my cousins one time and none of us even knew what this song was about back then.

This song makes a great point about abuse and especially abused children. Someone abused their whole lives only will want the "wrong way" unless that person gets help dealing with his/her traumas. Great beat, great band (my favorite) though.
I barely discovered this song now in 2022. It sent me on a roller coaster of emotions. Purely genius storytelling in a song. Brings up serious matters brilliantly and made me feel every emotion ever while still having a good beat. Will probably go down as one of my favorite songs ever.
I barely discovered it either, until a friend of mine told me to listen to it cuz its good. I love this song cuz it reminds me of these mexican songs that my dad showed me that sounds the exact same
David Mccullers What is that from? I've seen other people commenting that. Another Sublime reference? Just curious, as I know very little about this band.
Sublime does have that unique ability to take serious subjects like child prostitution, date rape, and murder, and turn them into witty fun songs you wanna sing along with. It's wierd, but that's Sublime for ya.
Brad man we miss you thank you for all the songs you, Eric, and Bud made together you guys really did put alot of meaning into your songs even if it were about sex, drugs, Brads dog, or daily life, or a story. R.I.P Bradley Nowell SUBLIME 4 EVER PEACE!
The Nineties were special. It was a fleeting moment of joy that existed between the end of the Cold War, and the Afghan War that followed 9/11. Children of the seventies and eighties were raised with the knowledge that a nuclear war with the "Evil Empire" could happen at any time. Those kids became adults when that Pax Americana was shattered, leading to a war so long that, by its end there were soldiers fighting who were younger than the war itself. This is why the Nineties were likely the last time it was good to be an American.
MageofRage Thedinoshar Well to be fair, at least as I understand it he could have been singing about something that happened when he was a teenager. Although the song is insanely dark for such a comedic video.
Yondale Thomas Well sadly life is dark we just choose to ignore most things as humans. He just wrote about reality. Maybe he was singing about his own experience and maybe not. Singers don't always sing about themselves. We don't know the circumstances either so...

@@sadokitty2593 the story is this john or the customer of a prostitute is telling about her, she presumably lost her mother at 12 and her good for nothing father and brothers daughter forced her into prostitution at 14. he decides to take her away from all this for a new life with him. but he is not a rich guy and can't afford all the things she want, she is very unhappy with him and he decides to giver her the option of staying with him or leaving. well she leaves to pick up her life as a prostitute again, the only life she knows, it's all wrong but that's life. this also kind of reflects Bradley's life, he was an addict which he knew was wrong but he could not changer and remained an addict until he died of an overdose, before this song became popular. this song is pretty dark without a happy ending,

I think the weirdest thing about his death is what a happy, loving person he was. Usually with this kind of thing you really see pain in them. Just proves that addiction can kill anyone.
