Red’s speech at the end kept using the phrase “I hope…”, which of course is a huge turnaround from earlier when he told Andy that hope was dangerous. But also: while it’s been a few decades since I read the novella this was based on, I believe it ends with this speech because we, the reader, don’t actually find out if Red ever meets up with Andy. As an ex-con, Red is expected to get have some difficulty crossing the border into Mexico, so it’s left open-ended. (Andy was still using his assumed identity, so he was able to breeze through.) But for a movie, I think this was a valid change to make. That catharsis from seeing their reunion is so powerful. (Also, I love how concerned your dogs get for you. I’ve been watching for a few months, and they really worry about your well-being. It’s so heartwarming.)

One of the greatest movies of all time. That portion when Brooks is paroled is heartbreaking...hits me every time. And the ending is probably one of the best-filmed endings of all time.
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen this movie, Brooks’s death gets me every time. I don’t know what he did to get into Shawshank, but it always breaks my heart when he commits suicide. Stephen King is a master of creating loveable and flawed characters, and Frank Darabont is a master of bringing them to the big screen. What a perfect combination.
Murdered his wife and daughter after a losing poker streak. *it's like Green Mile...empathy for the characters is easier if we don't know the crimes. 😬
Greetings from Sweden sir. This is a cinematic masterpiece. One of the absolute best ones ever made. Fun fact: When the warden opens the book and finds the hidingspot for the rock hammer it says "EXODUS" on that page. It means "EXIT"
This is the guy's version of a Rom-Com, so to speak. Great movie about friendship and hope. Don't give the captain too much credit for helping Andy with the Sisters. The only reason he beat up their leader was because the warden was using Andy for his finances and needed Andy in one piece. Basically Andy bought protection by helping the Warden and the captain out with their finances. "Better get started living or get started dying." Powerful. I gotta take those to heart now before I leave this world.
Something you should know. The Shawshank Redemption is NOT about Andy. It was about Red, the whole time. If you remember in the beginning, Red starts to tell us a story about his friend, Andy Dufresne. When he had to sneak Rita Hayworth into Shawshank prison. Andy was always innocent so there was nothing to redeem. Red was the one whom needed to Redeem himself, who had to pay for his crimes & he did. Stephen King, the author of Rita Hayworth & the Shawshank Redemption confirmed all this too. I’m so glad you loved the movie.
I am not sure I agree with that perspective. Why does it have to be about one person? I thought it was more a movie about the overarching theme of hope.
@@coolexio I don't agree with that assessment either. To redeem means to buy back. Andy was innocent and brought back his freedom and it included the money which was seen as his severence pay. Red was guilty of a crime but yet he found freedom because of Andy. To me it a story about Andy all the way.
I laughed so hard at your reaction to Andy crawling through the sewer that I hurt myself. Then I watched it again another five or six times. Thank you so much. I really needed a good laugh.
The reason we didn't warn you that you'd hate the warden is because it's something you have to experience. Unlike Percy, you're not supposed to immediately hate him. You're supposed to slowly realize just how evil he is. This is so you can see it how andy does. At first, the scariest thing is the sisters. Then feel that he's safe after they're gone, only to realize it's a false safety and the guy at the top is the real problem. Brilliant movie

I worked at a prison from 2010 - 2018 and what you described during Brook's segment actually was something I saw firsthand. There was a woman that was about to get out that had been in for 14 years at that point, from 1996 - 2010 and they didn't really have much in the way of cell phones when she went in, so she asked me about them, I said I myself didn't know much about them cause even at that time I didn't have a smart phone.
I didn’t get a cell phone till around 2005. I originally got one in 2002, but was so unused to having one that I lost it within 2 or 3 days, lol, so I don’t count that. I didn’t get a smartphone till around 2016, I believe. I’ve thought about folks going into jail in 90 & getting out in like 2015 & what a strange feeling it must be.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Same as you, I didn't ever get (or want) a cellphone until 2005 (a matte black RAZR, thank you very much), when the TV show I was working on got a 2nd season, and the producers' only notes for me were to please get a cellphone. My next RAZR had maps and GPS, and within days of buying it (because I'd dropped my original one from my shirt pocket into my toilet) I was coming home to Echo Park, in LA on the 10, and the 110 was blocked off by construction, so I had to divert into the middle of downtown, which is just fraught. The problem with that is, taking downtown surface streets, you're likely to end up on Figueroa thinking you're ok, but next thing, you're barreling toward Pasadena. So I pulled over and let the GPS guide me home. Unfortunately, the next year, I drove myself and my dog up to Big Basin, in the Santa Cruz mountains for a fun camping trip. I just went all the way up the 5, blithely letting the GPS run the whole time, so I wouldn't miss the left turn at the 152. My next phone bill was like over $400. Thankfully, I convinced Verizon to reverse the charges.
I heard that he wrote this as a "horror movie without monsters " to show real life itself can be a horror.. can't confirm but sounds like a good theory.

Rewatching this amazing reaction & the Brooks scene hit hard today. I used to be an addict & I was never caught or arrested. Now I'm sober, good job, family. I've seen so many friends go to jail or pass. It completely upended their lives. One kid, he grew up 2 blocks away, super good dude. The only problem was his addiction. He never begged, borrowed, or stole a thing. He's probably about 45 now, spending his days on another stretch for poss. His 21 yo son passed last year from an od. It hit me really hard. My dad was an addict, I'm doing everything I can do my son doesn't become what I was, it's a cycle that is hard to break though. People don't understand what it's about. You're treated terrible, less than human by everyone. I still don't talk to any family except one aunt. I just wish people would try to understand & have a bit of empathy.
Keep being you my man. I am 6'2" 390 lbs and I still tear up at a quality story line, especially ones involving animals or children. Emotion and heart doesn't depend on a person's size.
Rita Hayworth and the shawshank redemption was one of 4 shorter stories in one book . Another of those stories was The Body , later to become Stand By Me ( 1986 )
We knew you'd love Shawshank, JL. Don't worry. It had myself (6'4"), my brother (6'6") & our Dad (6'2") all crying like children at the end of this film, in the cinema. This is one of my personal favorite films of all time. Easily in my top 3. Hope everyone is having a great week & much love from here in the UK
Raquel is Raquel Welch and the poster is from her movie “One Million Years B.C. (1966)!” Saw it once or twice on cable as a kid so I don’t remember much about it except it had a prehistoric adventure fantasy theme!
I loved this reaction and I loved how tuned into each other you and your baby are. Dogs always see emotion in their people but not all people can see it in their dogs ❤
He (the captain) didn’t “help Andy” when he made the lead sister a vegetable. He was keeping his personal accountant where he’d be able to keep cooking his books. Nothing else. If Andy hadn’t been the accountant that he was, the captain would have turned a blind eye to his suffering.
Raquel Welsh, who was featured in Andy's final poster, is actually still alive, and looks pretty good for a woman in her 80s. She's known to be a fan of this movie.
I guess they could have called this movie “The Brown Mile” considering what Andy had to do to escape. 😂 It was gross, but it was a small price to pay for freedom! Go Andy!
This is an excellent movie, and probably the best prison movie. Robot Chicken did a spoof of it using Batman charactets, even has Mark Hamill reprising the voice of The Joker (he voiced The Joker in the animated series and nailed it). It's called "The Arkham Redemption" and it is still on UA-cam.
The parole board finally approved Red because they could tell he'd had all the fight taken out of him. Also, it's not surprising Andy had the long game. He's a banker, which means he's conscientious and _smart._ He started working on the long game the second he stepped off the bus.
It'a great movie and a great reaction. You have a big heart sir. And can I just say I m absolutely in love with a bond that you have with your dog, he really feels you. You take care x
The one thing that always bugged me about this movie is why Andy didn't just hide the rock hammer in the hole? I mean if the warden found the hole he'd be screwed anyway and they'd most likely tear his room apart and find the hammer. Seems an unnecessary risk to hide it in the bible when he has a perfectly good hole in the wall to stash things in.
Raquel Welch :) That's the last woman that adorned Andy's wall. Mercy Great hanging with you and your pups, watching this masterpiece of a movie. One of the most fun reactions I've seen in a long time lol. Hope you have a great week.
Best moment of the movie definitely has to be when Andy finally emerges from the sewage pipe and the rain washes away all of the crud from his body (great metaphor) and the music swells! It feels extremely relieving and cathartic! (Fun fact: the song that plays in the background during that scene is named "The Shawshank Redemption" the same title as the movie.)
Any time this movie comes on... I put the remote down immediately, and I saw this back in 1994... To this very day, still one of my favorites and always will be.. so many lessons in this movie... "Hope, is a good thing"...💯🙏
I really enjoyed this reaction. Especially when Andy crawled through the river of shit. Your reaction did not disappoint. I have a Tim Robbins movie for you. Mystic River directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon and Laurence Fishburne. I am looking forward to JLoween much like a child looks forward to Christmas. October is going to be a great month for EOM.
A perfect movie, love it, even in its darkness. The message is one we all need now and then. “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” For some trivia, Andy kept his hammer in the Bible under the chapter Exodus, the story that tells of the Jews escaping their slavery in Egypt. The woman on the poster that the warden calls “Miss Fuzzy Britches” is Raquel Welch from the movie One Million Years B.C. She was a real sex symbol of the 60s and 70s and is still with us today at age 82. Clancy Brown, who plays the Captain Hadley, the head guard, also voices Mr. Crabs on SpongeBob SquarePants.
BTW, the reason why Morgan finally got paroled is that he finally showed them that he was broken. His previous meetings, he still had that chip on his shoulder, pride, a bit of ego. And your little baby doggie sure does connect to you, he totally stresses when he thinks you're stressin' and puts on a little show to make you happy.
When I saw this movie, at the age of 8, my grand folks told if I end up in prison, I'm gonna end up like Andy if I don't shape up (especially the Sisters scene), in context, I was clumsy kid who was at the wrong place at the wrong time, not so much a punk...so this film's impact was being scared shitless about prison. Now as an Adult, I appreciate what the film's about. Especially Red and Andy. Brooks, my God, his part in the story really got to me.
one of the best movies ever made. plenty of movies make you cry with sad things and this does as well with brooks death which got me and alot of people but i cant think of any movie that lifted my heart and made me cry with almost optimisim and happiness like the ending of this movie. "i hope" as the closing line is literal perfection.
This is one of the great movies in history, and in my opinion one of the greatest endings, I have actually been to this prison before it is in Mansfield Ohio, they actually do a haunted prison tour around Halloween, I have talked to people who work there and they all have stories, They said you never wanted to be on the top tier of the prison and have enemies, I'm sure you can imagine you would get tossed off and it has happened...The prison opened in the late 1800s and closed in 1990, a piece of the tree lies by the prison because lightning hit it years ago, It made headlines over here
I worked in a prison for a few years There was an inmate who had been in for a long time. He talked about how he was talking to his daughter on the phone and she said that she was face timing with somebody and he had to ask her what that was It’s crazy how different things have gotten
There is NOTHING ugly about you man! Not even your crying. You are such a beautiful person. I am so alone but I spend everyday with you and you always cheer me up. God bless.
2:00 Oh no, you will DEFINITELY want to watch this one again, and again, and again! It's such a wonderful, uplifting movie, with one of the most beautiful endings ever :)
i always ask myself why Andy never told Red about his plan that would eventually reunite them both outside. Then i realized that Andy may have thought the plan would not work for the both of them if Red knew. Red had to be as completely surprised as everyone else for him to avoid trouble when the escape happened. Also, if Red knew before his parole hearing he may have tried too hard, BS'd them as he always did, and been denied parole like he always had. I think Andy knew this. At the same time, i'm confused why such a smart fella like Andy would go directly to the warden with Tommy's story, knowing that the warden was the last person who would want to see him set free. I guess Andy didn't have time to plan that one.
Andy forgot what type of man the Warden really was. He let himself get comfortable in the life he was in and when that first nugget of truth about what really happened showed up he did not think it through actually thought Warden would help him. It was a big mistake and it cost Tommy his life

(Andy was still using his assumed identity, so he was able to breeze through.)
But for a movie, I think this was a valid change to make. That catharsis from seeing their reunion is so powerful.
(Also, I love how concerned your dogs get for you. I’ve been watching for a few months, and they really worry about your well-being. It’s so heartwarming.)
Yeah, I'm glad they put the happy resolution on there. They put the audience through a lot, we deserved a satisfying end.
From what I've learned the happy ending was done after filming wrapped because when they showed it for test audiences without that ending they didn't like it.
Those sweet doggies so concerned about you ♥ You're a good guy and I loved watching this movie again with you. :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@EOMReacts I'm a new subscriber here and I am falling in love with your dogs! I'm not allowed to have any dogs in my mother's house and I haven't had one in a long time so I always enjoy watching yours along with a movie. They're beautiful ❤️

One of the greatest movies of all time. That portion when Brooks is paroled is heartbreaking...hits me every time. And the ending is probably one of the best-filmed endings of all time.
That’s probably one of the best comments of all time 😁
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen this movie, Brooks’s death gets me every time.
Rhat part always gets me too.
I just heard them say he was a con artist. So he wasn’t necessarily a violent criminal. Makes sense.
Greetings from Sweden sir. This is a cinematic masterpiece. One of the absolute best ones ever made.
Fun fact: When the warden opens the book and finds the hidingspot for the rock hammer it says "EXODUS" on that page. It means "EXIT"
Easily one of the best movies ever!! 💪🏽🔥
Don’t know if you caught it in Red’s last few lines but in addition to everything else he once again had hope… thanks to Andy
And that's why the Shawshank Redemption is truly about Red, not Andy.
That statement had dragged me out of some of worse things I ever had experienced. Simple but powerful.
Well Andy helped him with inheritance money...
No, it’s not…Rom Com? Gtfoh
Great analogy.
Wouldn't they check the bible for contraband?
Seems hiding the rock hammer behind the poster,in the dugout tunnel, was the best spot.
I love seeing people react to when they find out Andy is innocent!
Y would u comment n say that???
Some watch these movies alongside reactors. Don't say shit. Damn.
Man your reaction to the poop tunnel scene had me in tears. “Quit talking about it!” Was absolute gold
I hated that the warden committed suicide. I wanted him to go to prison forever.

Thanks for watching my favorite movie of all time.
I loved the shit the fuck up moments, brother.
Much appreciated!
I've seen a lot of reactions to this movie, but yours is officially my favorite. Awesome 👏👏👏
Wow, thank you!
Its crazy how many amazing stories one man can make.
The imagination is one hell of a thing.
I heard that he wrote this as a "horror movie without monsters " to show real life itself can be a horror.. can't confirm but sounds like a good theory.
This is an absolutely beautiful story of hope in a hopeless situation. It’s my favorite movie! Wonderful reaction!! ❤❤❤ I love your reactions!! Your puppies are so precious!! ❤❤❤

The sheer joy you show when you realise he has escaped is pure gold!
Excellent movie and glad you enjoyed it so much. You are lucky your fur buddies watch over you and take such good care of ya. This made me smile this morning, I needed it, as it started out so bad. One of my fur babies passed last night and was found this morning. Seeing you and your little buddies made me feel better.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost one of my furbabies last weekend (10/14/23) It’s so heartbreaking.
You are not the only one that got allergies at the End😅 Great Movie
I love your dogs, the one trying to comfort you was so gentle and cute.
Hi from a French guy in Switzerland. I'm glad that you enjoyed this movie.

The moment I saw that movie (when it came out on VHS) it became my #1 favorite movie and it's been on my Top 5 EVER SINCE! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Keep being you my man. I am 6'2" 390 lbs and I still tear up at a quality story line, especially ones involving animals or children. Emotion and heart doesn't depend on a person's size.
Rita Hayworth and the shawshank redemption was one of 4 shorter stories in one book . Another of those stories was The Body , later to become Stand By Me ( 1986 )
Another fantastic reaction to one of my favorite movies. Thank you! You’re 100% right. Andy was always looking out for his friends.
HOPE IS A GOOD THING, MAYBE THE BEST OF THINGS!
I loved this reaction and I loved how tuned into each other you and your baby are.
Dogs always see emotion in their people but not all people can see it in their dogs ❤
One of my all-time favorites. It's one of those flicks where even if it's on regular TV, edited, I'll still leave it on till the end.
same. every time.
Your dog’s reaction is killing me. 😂 what a little sweetheart.
Hadley is played by Clancy Brown who voices Lex Luthor on Superman: The Animated Series.
And Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob.
And The Kurgan in the original Highlander movie. Great villain
The Rita Hayworth poster for the censor bar was #@%! classic.
Buffalo wings, do your stuff!
Yup Family Guy had a Shawshank Parody as well
The parole board finally approved Red because they could tell he'd had all the fight taken out of him.
Also, it's not surprising Andy had the long game. He's a banker, which means he's conscientious and _smart._ He started working on the long game the second he stepped off the bus.
Seeing you come to the realization that Andy tunneled out was one of the best things I have seen in a while. It was so genuine. Good stuff!
It'a great movie and a great reaction. You have a big heart sir. And can I just say I m absolutely in love with a bond that you have with your dog, he really feels you. You take care x
Great reaction again loved it . Your dogs are awesome too. Thanks for another great reaction
Mercy
Great hanging with you and your pups, watching this masterpiece of a movie.
28:22 i bought one at Amazon. My grandpa use to play it and teach me a little when i was a teen. I was remembering this and decided to buy one.

October is going to be a great month for EOM.
Brilliant reaction - I love how your dog responds to your emotions - and how you have such empathy for your dog. It all works so well for this film x
A perfect movie, love it, even in its darkness. The message is one we all need now and then. “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
For some trivia, Andy kept his hammer in the Bible under the chapter Exodus, the story that tells of the Jews escaping their slavery in Egypt.
“Oh Andy got big balls!” My favorite description of this movie yet!!!
7:20 The captain is also the voice of Mr. Krabs from Spongebob. Which is just a funny side-note.
Love your reactions keep up the good work sir
I read this book when I was a kid. When I first saw the trailer for it I was sooo excited. Love this story. Hope springs eternal.
Get your tissues ready Jay. Parts of it are heart wrenching. Great movie
Best reaction of a movie I’ve ever seen. I’ll be following your other reactions.
Welcome to the family!
If you watch the old ones, we still read and respond to most comments, so let us know what you think.
Shawshank is my favorite movie and I loved your reaction. And your dogs are the sweetest ❤️
It truly was a shawshank redemption
One of the all-time great "bro" movies. So enjoyed your reaction to it. Love your hounds, too.
one of the best movies ever made. plenty of movies make you cry with sad things and this does as well with brooks death which got me and alot of people but i cant think of any movie that lifted my heart and made me cry with almost optimisim and happiness like the ending of this movie. "i hope" as the closing line is literal perfection.
Stephen King wrote this, The Green Mile, The Shining, Stand By Me, and Misery. Mad Respect for the The King 🤴
This is one of the great movies in history, and in my opinion one of the greatest endings, I have actually been to this prison before it is in Mansfield Ohio, they actually do a haunted prison tour around Halloween, I have talked to people who work there and they all have stories, They said you never wanted to be on the top tier of the prison and have enemies, I'm sure you can imagine you would get tossed off and it has happened...The prison opened in the late 1800s and closed in 1990, a piece of the tree lies by the prison because lightning hit it years ago, It made headlines over here
"I'm sure you can imagine you would get tossed off and it has happened . . ."
Maybe not the best choice of words for an international audience . . . 😄

I love how much you love your dogs, and how much they worry about you during these reacts. Dogs are life.
i always ask myself why Andy never told Red about his plan that would eventually reunite them both outside.
It was a big mistake and it cost Tommy his life
Love that dog and how he reacts to you and wants to comfort you.
