Why not trade back then? If we don’t like the O lineman at 11 then we could move back to 17-20 and get better draft capital since we’re losing a lot of pieces. We need both but nothing helps the team more than an offense that stays on the field. Defensive line talent is really hard to have translate to the nfl unless you’re a dawg like that. Me personally I’m picking O line and I’m picking the guy that you did the tape review on at 17-20
Hardly. First, not that many quality DTs in this draft. Lots of OTs available. Second, O-line only need to block for 3-4 seconds. Defensive players have to play till the whistle. They often have to chase players long after their blocker stops.
Dude ask yourself this, how many games did we lose this year because of the OL and how many we lost cuz our defense was ass. We need to put pressure on the QB or have a way better run defense (neither of which we did this year)
O line is not the highest need. Justt do yourselves a favor and look at the stats, not emotional appeals. The defense line is worse than the oline. Last year stats clearly show that. How are you missing this? Would it be great to get upgrades on the oline, yes. Is it the most pressing need for this team to win? Absolutely not...No Hesitation! O ranked top ten, D ranked bottom ten. D is and always will be the path to championships. It's true in all sports.
No center is going to go in the 2nd. Late 3rd at the earliest. Take a OG in the second and then a Center with the 3rd or 4th. I do agree with taking a DT at 11. Walter Nolen is my second favorite after Mason Graham. Amazing run defender, but needs to work on his pass rush
1st Round - RT. Protect your QB is the most important thing to do. There is so much depth in the D Line in this draft. 2nd DE- get a speed rusher 3rd DT/DE- get your big End who can kick inside like Armstead did 4th LG- get some added protection on the interior 4th NT- Get that heavy ass nose tackle that eats up double teams and gives your rushers room to work Mike Green and Walter Nolan are first round talents but they aren't pick 11 calibre
Depends on the talent shakes out. Whomever falls to them. If Campbell, Graham, Carter, Johnson fall, then grab them. Most likely the Niners will trade back as the talent in the teens is similar with the exception of Jeanty or Warren who are not needs. If the Niners trade back, they can grab Nolan or such and pick up another second round pick. Then take an edge and an offensive lineman. Green would also be in play if Niners trade back.
Before, I was best player available on either side of the line. However I just did a light scan of rounds 2 to 4 of the last 5 drafts and there are no elite dlinemen in those rounds. Where as there are quite a few elite Olinemen taken in those rounds. So I'm on the "take bpa on the Dline" team
OT is deep I like ersery. If an elite edge or DT is there you take him and grab an OT in 2nd rd or trade back into first and get ersery but there a plenty of OTs there that can help this team. So take the best defensive lineman available.
I like the idea of this draft strategy! Game changer edge or DT first then go Oline 2nd and hopefully they get drew dalman and/or Ronnie Stanley/ Mekhi becton in free agency. Also would like to see them get Khalil Mack or Hassan reddick to rush the passer OR Jevon holland/ dj Reed for secondary. Also if the price is right, Darius slayton to come in and stretch the field.
Mike Green and James Pearce Jr. are the only edge rushers I'd be happy with us taking in the 1st round (obviously Abdul Carter would be amazing but that's not happening).
One guy people aren't talking about , that I believe is a top 5 edge rusher is Antwuan Powell-Ryland (APR) out of Virginia Tech. People are sleeping on this dude. I promise you he's a draft GEM. If im the 49ers im targeting him possibly in the top of the 2nd round. He doesn't have the size people drool over, he's only 6' 3" but hes 261 and built SOLID. The dude shoots off the line like von miller. Dudes a game wrecker.
Tyler Warren. Kittle won’t last forever and this guy is part Oline, 2 birds. Can you imagine having 2 Kittles and Kittle 2.0 learning under Kittle 1.0? No brainer for me. Trade back if you need to BUT DONT miss out on this guy. Puni 3rd round. Having at least 1 Kittle on every play- priceless for Purdy.
I am becoming more convinced that OL at 11 probably isn't the best move unless one of the top guys drops down to us. I don't know if Tyler Warren gets to us either, but I'd like him if he was available. In general, though, I mostly agree that DL is probably what we're getting, and I think that we'll be in good shape to get some OL help in later rounds. A lot of fans forget the last time we took OL in first round was McGlinchey at pick 9 in the same draft where Lamar went 32, D.J. Moore went 24, and Minkah Fitzpatrick went 11. We were lucky we got Fred Warner at 70. Puni has been really good for us, so just go with best player available, and trust that we usually hit on our best guys in mid to late rounds. We don't need to stretch to fill positions of need with our first pick because we have a lot of picks to use. And let's be real, the problem with our OL is mostly at center, and given how intensive the center position is for the Niners in setting protections, we aren't going to be filling that spot with a rookie anyways.
This might be an unpopular opinion and at the end of the day, doesn’t really matter what we think, but given that olineman are pluggable and cheap in FA, we should explore this as much as possible. If you look at KC, they have cloggers/pass rushers/wreckers on that dline. We HAVE to shore up our dline and we’re fortunate to be a part of a draft where we’ll have 1st rounders fall to the second round. First and second have to be dline. After that, address the rest of the D that is in shambles w injuries and players leaving and of course the oline. 🤷🏻♂️ just an opinion.
If Campbell is gone at 11, Nolan should be the pick imo. All the playoff teams have a stud DT. They can always trade up for a late 1st or early 2nd and draft Josh Conerly Jr. who I think is perfect for our zone scheme.
I really wanted Dline, but you can get a good guard later and as long as our Tackles play they will get the job done. Banks and Brendel were the weak spots, that can be filled later in the draft. DT is weak and our defense was the issue last season, whoever we draft is upgrading the Dline a lot.
OL, PERIOD. If the Niners are going to invest in Brock as their Franchise QB, they need to build an OL to protect their investment. The OL needs to be completely retooled. Keep Puni, Draft Trent's successor.
I wish the QB class was deeper so teams would want to move up and help make an elite tackle on either side of the ball at 11. I've still seen some mock drafts suggesting Graham might make it to 11. Maybe San Fran could move up a few spots if he slips past top 8.
I agree that Graham could fall depending on how others move up. Doubt it, but it is possible. I fully expect the Niners trade back with a team that wants to move up for Jeanty or Warren. If the game changers are gone at 11, do it and pick up an extra second. Three picks in the top fifty would be great. Land an Edge, DL, and OL. The drop off in talent will not be that great.
Honestly idc who we get alsong as they can contribute to winning. I think it'll definitely be DL at 11. It's been the most important position that we like to target and coming off our worst season from DL production in awhile that's 100% what we will be targeting at 11.
Looking at the tape on Walter Nolan it looks like he doesn’t go 💯 percent all the time. Don’t know if it’s a conditioning issue or he just takes plays off.
It has to be the offensive line starting with the best Center. Brendel is the highest penalized Center in the league who is poor at pass protection and run blocking. A liability to the offense and it looks like Brock has little confidence in his blocking. McKivitz too is usually beaten as pass protection and run blocking. If it wasn’t for Dominic Puni it would have been worse.
DL is more of a gamble than OL. It's time to find a TW protege. We have scraped the bottom of the barrel for OL for too long and its finally caught up with us. We can get DL in FA
@greglyon1402 i still like the idea of getting a starter right away with him possibly being a rock for 10+ years. Plus we miss on 3rd rounders alot. But yeah I think I'd be happy with most the top ones if we don't move up
Mike Green at 11 is too rich. In a trade back I'd take him in range 15th - 25th overall. Score an extra pick or 2. Im still a big fan of Nic Scourton over Mike Green.
The casuals will say offensive lineman. But this draft is loaded with great dline prospects and especially at 11. It would be buffoonish to pick an olineman that is worse than the dlineman that are available there
They need to get guys who can stop the run.You have to earn the right to rush the passer. And they need Offensive lineman everywhere except for Puni who was great!Armstead could stop the run.But these guys they have now cant I would get some big guys in there. If the middle of the Football team is weak your not going anywhere
Jeanty and Warren are the two game changers that will probably be available at 11. If so, trade back to later teens and let the other team move up. Get an extra 2nd.
49ers at second round pick 49ers trade back pick up extra pick Lotta great players late second third fourth fifth and six and seven. But it’s not crazy if you go all in, trade Leonard Floyd Philadelphia Eagle 32 overall pick John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan message if you wanna win the whole thing, you gotta be all in. 49ers at pick 32 Josh Simmons you’re future offensive tackle. I know he have injury, but he’s gonna play for the next 12 years. Safe pick. Two star defensive lineman, and Have your starting offensive tackle.
Trent Williams will be a great mentor for Josh Simmons in second round pick at 43 49ers can trade little bit back pick up extra pick third row and extra fourth row pick. Trade back Denver broncos. 52 overall picks Anthony Belton RT. Future star at LT And RT. 49ers 60 overall pick Azarye’h Thomas now You have future Star cornerback.
49ers at 11 Walter Nolen DT and trade back in first round it Mike Green 22 with San Diego LA charger. 49ers Give up second round pick next year and 4 rounds next year too. 49ers can pick at 22 Mike Green. No, we have future Star.
i think both are good options but they should just go best player available at the pick
Exactly
And of the two, DLine is more likely the pick. Fans just assume OLine when that might be the round 2 pick
@@danielgarcia8393last year round 2 no Tackles were available
They did that with Solomon Thomas, Trey Lance, Javon Kinlaw and Mike McGlinchey.

Offensive line, no hesitation

it has to be an offensive line gotta protect Brock Purdy
Sorry, you can pick up plenty of the O-line in the second and third draft. 1st rounds are for game changers.
O line 😭🙏 Puni has been the only good linemen we've drafted and he only has 1 year under his belt plus Trent getting old
If there’s a can’t miss Defensive lineman that’s the pick. Then Build Up the Offensive Line!!
I think if the DT from Michigan slips to 8ish we may move up for him
Got to protect Purdy. Also need a Trent replacement. Simmons from Ohio State. Play him at guard till Trent retires.
Mike Green for sure he’s a monster in his film if he’s there if not oline
Hi, Brad. I'd take a DT at pick 11. Then a Center in the second round, and an OG in the third. Gotta build up the trenches.
