Horse rescued in Spokane Co. is going blind, goat helps him get around

Rough Start Horse Rescue recently took in a horse after his owner could no longer take care of him. Handlers say Cricket is very sweet but he is going blind, which can be a scary process. Cricket now has a buddy to lean on: Jimmy the goat.

The phrase "get your goat” goes way back. This expression comes from a tradition in horse racing. Thought to have a calming effect on high-strung thoroughbreds, a goat was placed in the horse's stall. Unscrupulous opponents would then steal the goat in an effort to upset the horse and cause it to lose the race.🐐🐴

How wonderful to come across this story! This pair sounds so similar to the horse and goat pair, Charlie and Jack from WildHeart Ranch in OK who inspired the picture book I wrote, This Way, Charlie (Abrams 2020)
