Hello! Please keep in mind - I am NOT even close to being an expert on using a gel press... so I hope you will enjoy exploring it with me! Would love to hear your ideas and tips. Also, for a visual supply list, head to ldli.co/e/r5023e Enjoy!
I love your long videos. I definitely want to try this. You sure look like you had a knack for it. I do love the way you clean things up and put them together... totally my style. You got me very excited to check this out! You're the best!
You are doing very well - as usual - I thought! I love my gel press but have only used it with acrylics so far, so this is a great idea, particularly because you can stamp on the prints with the same inks, as you said. One tip I have is that you can use die cuts and scatter them on your plate to create negative shapes, then use those die cuts because they have matching colours for your cards later. Just one of soooo many options the gel plate offers. Props to Lila! She is a very talented young lady! 😍🥰😘😘
I love that you're willing to experiment. Even your "beginner" results were great and i liked how you kept using the ink. Tons of good ideas in just this one video!
This was great for me. I have been in rehab for a year and a half. Crafting cards has been my saving grace. Today I wanted to make a special card for a special nurse who encourages me a eases my fears. She is very un girly. No pinks purses or glitter. A challenge so blues an greens will be the color of choice. Thank you for great ideas. 💜
Gel plate mono printing is so incredibly addictive and I’m happy you and Lila are discovering how fun it is. Here are two techniques which have worked for me in the past. 1. Use cheap, white envelopes for brayering off the runoff inks. You may end up with two different sets of colors on each side, but that’s part of the fun for the recipient. And, no one will notice you used inexpensive envelopes. 2. I have rescued awful prints by using glittery embossing paste through a stencil on top and the print is completely transformed. Enjoy your new obsession!
Yes, please do more of these videos with the gel press! Like you, I bought one a few years ago, but haven’t played with it, yet. I have kids at home doing their schooling all online, and it has been a struggle (putting it mildly). I have nearly lost my will to create so I’m hoping this awakens that part of me. My Crackling Campfire bundle just arrived today so your timing is perfect. Jennifer, you are a blessing to so many. Thank you for continuing to put up so many technique filled videos, even when you may not feel like it. What you do matters. It definitely matters to me and my life. And finally, you ARE an artist! Hugs from Katie in KY.
you are so right Katie, what you create is your art, and I've never seen anyone who creates as many original things as you do, s that definitely makes you an artist!
“It makes me feel like an artist” says Jennifer!!! Jennifer you are one of the most wonderful artists we watch, love watching you art, and your art, albeit cards, it is still art. xo
If you do end up getting a second plate you can brayer excess ink onto that and vice versa. Same with ink on stencils. Or pick up ink from one with a rubber or clear stamp and then stamp on the other one. Endless possibilities. For anyone who hasn’t got stencils you can get amazing effects just hand cutting masks (any simple shape) from printer paper and they can be re-used quite a few times. Don’t forget to use the negative spaces - the pieces you cut from - as well as the cut out shapes.
Oh my Lord, I literally just took out my gel press yesterday and starred at it, then spoke to it, “Lord, give me a sign on what I can do with this piece of gooey plastic...”, THE LORD, “OKAY, Jennifer’s going to give you some inspiration on Saturday...”, so, ANGELIC CHORUS...Now, I’m inspired!!! Love you and your God given talent and creativity!!! Sending you hugs from afar, blessings & love!!! Thanks so much for the inspiration, these cards are absolutely stunning (as always)!!!
I got a couple different gel plates last year and have played with acrylic paint and pan pastels on them. But now...my distress inks????? I see a whole day of playtime coming...wheeee! Thanks for all the inspiration you generate...as usual💕
I've watched a few gel press videos before and thought they basically created a big mess. This I loved because you kept it simple and colors and shapes didn't get lost.
The fun and artistic flair are just beginning. Wide full cards ... I save all sorts of odds and ends to make marks and patterns... the netting from bag of fruit...plastic wrap, crunched foil ... endless possibilities As always thank you Jennifer
Had a lovely time playing with the Gel Press this afternoon. The colour combinations made me think of dying Easter eggs and that made me think of Spring. Thank you.
This was my favorite video of yours in forever! I love gel printing, it’s one medium where I can just let go and create without any rules. It’s so freeing. So glad you tried it, and thank you so much for sharing all your fabulous prints and gorgeous cards! Please do more gel printing videos! You rock (yet again)! ❤️❤️❤️
just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU Jennifer! I've been watching & sharing your videos for quite a few years & always learn something & find them so interesting! Plus i just love your style, & your sweet personality, & that you are so generous with sharing your knowledge. Bless you!
Hi Jennifer, these prints you created are stunning. Their simplicity creates dynamic backgrounds. Your daughter's prints are equally beautiful! I asked for a gell press for a Christmas gift, which I did not receive lol! But after spending time watching you play around with your gell press, I am totally convinced I would also love to make these prints. Thank you for this long video which took us from step one through an array of gorgeous cards. I'm blown away by every card. You are both an amazing teacher and an exceptionally creative person. Many thanks.🌷🌷
Ugh, I've been hooked on gel press tutorials, kept telling myself 'no, you don't need to buy something new', and then you go and make something beautiful using a gel plate & oxide inks!?! Who knew! 😵 I never would have thought to use oxide inks. Brilliant 👌 and I need it!
Yay!! I've been wanting to order a gel press for probably 10 years or so and just never have. Very limited fixed income and my acrylic paints ancient and dried up and in storage. But wow showing me that I can use my distress oxides made me finally go ahead and do it. I love so many other cards that you made and the prints and patterns. I can't wait to dig out my little stash of oxides and go to town. As soon as I pull out my rubber brayer from behind the file cabinet where it fell a long time ago LOL
I watched a video a few days ago where someone was using the gel plate with medium to lift magazine pictures off onto media paper. That wasn't something that made me want a gel plate, but now watching you show how to incorporate it with stamping backgrounds I just have to get one! I really like all the card ideas you showed us today.
Hi Jennifer. I'm glad to see this video. I recently have noticed other artists using gel press and was amazed of the beautiful cards made with the gel press. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I LOVE these backgrounds! WOW!! I’m so glad you got out your gel press & so glad you shared it with all of us. I would love to see more videos as you continue to learn & create using the press. And please tell Lila she did a GREAT job with her backgrounds & cards. 😄
Yes, please make more of these gel press videos! I have a gel press, but I've never been very comfortable using it... or very happy with the results. But I was using paint. I love the idea of using ink. It's so much easier to do... and less messy! Plus, I love the colors. Thank you!
Thank you Jennifer for a fun video. I have seen the gel press with acrylic paint and thought it was very cool. I didn't feel overly inspired to do it then. Now I do! LOL So many techniques that you can combine for new effects - I LOVE that! I laughed when I saw the last card, thinking that was so not your style! But, it would, with a little rearranging, make an adorable layered cake for a birthday!
Going to get my plates and my inks out and play inspired by your prints and cards. Please keep going with more gel plate videos, the combination of your style and the prints are beautiful.
Such a great body of creative ideas. What I really took from this video is the value of supporting each other and asking for help. I've been zoom creating with friends here in Australia,(added a few overseas friends now too), since March. Each session we take it in turn to host and share an idea. It was a bit weird to start with but we've all adapted pretty well. Never really understood what Gel press was so thank you for today. I'll have to do some more research and most likely buy one. Who am I kidding, so going to purchase one! Cheers Lisa
Yes do more videos with Gel Press Plates. After watching this one I immediately ordered a 5x7 plate I should have it in a few days. I can hardly wait to get it so I can enjoy making all kinds of backgrounds. I love what I saw you doing today and look forward to seeing more. It said you're NOT an expert WELL ya had me fooled!!!! Love what you do with your talent in card making you're a great inspiration. HUGS to You
I have one , thank you for the incentive to get it out and use it! You are truly the best instructor of stamping . Thank you so much. Because of you I am starting to use my collection again. ❤️
I too have all the gel plate equipment that sits in a lonely drawer! So you are an inspiration to get it out! Naturally then I would love to see more experimenting with it. The Joggles gal Barb has lots of videos using all kinds of products and combinations to use with a gel plate. I have watched a lot of her videos! Nice to see Lilah living artwork and developing in the interest. Thanks Jennifer I have really enjoyed this your first video in this realm of artwork.
I thoroughly enjoy entering your creative world every time I watch one of your videos!! Thank you so very much for sharing your talents!!! Looove the gel press ideas.....just beautiful!! :)
Wow...love the stencil technique. I was not sure about needing a gel press. But after your quick & easy video, I must need to have a gel press, now. Awesome video, Jennifer. 😊😉😻
Yes, please do more gel press videos, this was awesome! I hadn’t heard of a gel press before but your video was so inspiring I ordered one and a brayer. I’m always in awe of your creative ideas!
I have different sizes of the gel press including two sets of the tiny ones. I still haven’t got up the courage to make anything with them. Now I think I HAVE TO. Please do more videos. This looks so fun and less messy than others. Thank you Jennifer.
Amazing! I’m so excited to try gel press. Yes, please do more videos using the gel press. Thank you for keeping me creative during this difficult time. You are the BEST!!!
Ah!! Welcome to the Gel print party!! I’ve been making card backgrounds for years!!! So happy that you’re finding new enjoyment in your creativity! Thanks for sharing Lyla’s prints too! She’s super talented, like her mom!! Can’t wait to see more of your videos of your Gel print adventures!!
Love this video! I love playing with my gel press. You should try inking up and then scrunch up a piece of paper, the dab it here and there on your press, looks gorgeous. I would love to see you do more videos on this, you always have such great ideas. I use a soft rubber brayer, which I think is what you have, with ink. It's great because it's easy to stamp on afterwards, as opposed to acrylics. I follow a lot of Lavinia Stamps tutorials, as well as yours of course, and they have a technique where you ink up, then splatter, highly diluted Brushos on with a fan brush, gives a wonderful organic look. Thanks for all your tutorials, they are a life saver! ❤️
Cool idea. Once you start with the gelatin plates, you will discover all sorts of techniques by making a print on a “mistake”. You know how you can mess up stenciling, stamping, etc.? With gel printing you can just make a print over what you would have discarded previously. That’s how I discovered that most dye (water based) inks come up through acrylic paint. I don’t know why but it’s like the image travels through the paint; at first it looks as though the ink is covered up, but by the time the paint dries the image is at the surface surrounded by the paint. Works with most water based markers too.
I didn’t understand very well how she did it with the stamp :( ... I am new on this plus my mother tongue it’s not English but I really like the big embossing white words on the card on top of gel print.
Yes! These videos help keep me going. I have sooooo many supplies but so little time. I’m taking care of my mom (dementia) so watching your videos and hearing your encouragement gets me excited and hopeful Thank you
Please please please do more of these videos!!!!! I have a gel press also that I've been scared to try....you just gave me courage to do so. Thanks so much!! Big Hugs!!!
Yes, please do more gel press videos! I bought one a couple of weeks ago, but haven’t used it yet. Too much to do going back to school, teaching special ed. Your cards are gorgeous!
Wow what a tutorial fantastic just what I needed a few month ago I made my own geli plate I made one the same size as yours and a round 1 they worked out perfect I was so chuffed I had never done anything like that but never got round to have a good old play with you have got me going defiantly going to make some back ground cards thankyou so much
Jennifer - one of your bestest videos of all time. thank you so much for all the encouragement & your kindness. Have been trying to figure out what to do for the background in this years holiday card & you have helped me with figure out the solution. bless your heart!
Gosh.... For *so long* I didn't think I needed the gelpress. Little did I know! Love all the backgrounds you made and all the cards you created. Awesome
Yes do more with gel press. Like you, I bought the press years ago and have never used it. I can’t wait to try this. I really need something to put some energy into myself. Thank you so much!
Hi Jennifer!👋I would love to see more videos on using a gel press. Thank you so much for making these cards. I have been wanting to use my gel press and I haven’t had the gumption to try it out yet. Stay safe and healthy. I am sending you many blessings to you and your family.🙏
Wow! I love the amazing prints you created. ❤ And the beautiful cards you created from them. I would definitely enjoy seeing more videos of you using the gel press... After watching one of your videos, I always wonder what it would be like to have all of your cool dies, stamps etc to play with. 🤔 Thank you so much for creating and sharing. Looking forward to your next video. 🙂
This is amazing! I have had a gel press for YEARS and have never used it. Your video gives me the confidence and knowledge to finally put it to use. Thank you!
Hi Jennifer I love ur video and I love my gel press....a tip is is when uve got ur ink on give it a spray with ink mists......it gives fantastic texture and colour
Thanks so much for trying this technique with the gel press plate. I loved your ideas! I absolutely love using the gel press plates. There are so many techniques with all kinds of media that it is a neverending source of creative enjoyment. One way I like to use them is with pan pastels and stencils. After you have applied the pastels through the stencil, remove the stencil, use a brayer to apply a thin layer of a light color of acrylic paint and then lift a print. The pan pastel will last through several prints. The gel press plate has to be cleaned with a little baby oil to remove the last of the pan pastel. I hope you will do more videos using gel press plates.
OMG, Jennifer, you have me hooked on a new technique....wasn’t even aware of the gel press, but had stashed the brayers away and now I have a purpose for them again! thank you
I forward this onto a friend of mine, who does watercoloring. This video inspired me to try this out! I hope mine will turn out half as good as yours ... thanks for the inspiration Jennifer! Lila did a FANTASTIC job!!!
There are great videos out on the gel press. So glad you are exploring it as would love to see your take on using the prints. You can use just about anything, oxides, inks, alcohol inks, acrylic paints - thin or thick, brushos, other loose pigments with water flicked on and so on. But if you are using wetter techniques you will need a different cardstock from Neenah as it doesn’t take water well as you know. Using two plates at once is an effective use of product too.
Jennifer, you inspired me to get my gel press out & play with it. Great video. Try embossing your cardstock first, then make sure you make a second print with plain cardstock. The 2nd print is almost better than the first one. It works best with a really deeply embossed cardstock
Hi Jennifer, You made me laugh when you said you have had the brayers and Gelli plate for years, and are just using them for the first time. This is so 'me' too ;) Not only do I have these same, unused products, but also a full set of Tim Holtz pens and a complete set of all colours of Spectrum Noir pens, also from several years ago, still in their boxes!!! I think it is mainly caused by an incomplete idea of how to best use these craft tools that has caused this dilemma, and it is thank you to you, and your innovative attention to getting the most you can out of your stash, and repurposing tools that is helping me to get my 'new' items out of their packages and involve them in my creations.... Thank you so much for extending your technique tutorials across different media and opening my eyes to so many possibilities! I am unable to craft at the moment due to breaking my dominant hand in a training accident, and will be watching rather than doing for another 10 weeks till the pins are removed, so you are entertaining and keeping me motivated....I can hardly wait to use all of my newly acquired craft items, as I can still buy things, just can't use them yet :)
I have never seen anything done on a gel plate that looked halfway attractive. Thank you for showing us that it is possible and useful. I have been curious about them, but leary as well.
I LOVE my gel presses...I have several sizes!! I love using acrylic paint with stencils on mine because you can get a "ghost print"...some times 2 or 3! It's also fun to allow the paint to dry & then paint over that with a THIN layer of light colored paint & pull it all up!! Sooooo cool!! Thanks for sharing this video! I'll try my oxides on mine your way...last time it didn't work so well lol!!
Jennifer, thank you so much for doing this video. I kept hearing about gel presses but didn’t know how to do it. Now, I’m going to buy one and try it myself. Thanks again. I watch you all the time and I’ve been in a creative slump lately. You’ve really inspired me to try new thing with more dies cuts and now the gel press! 🤗
I have used acrylics, inks and spray inks on my gelli plate. If you use a stencil, after your first print, add white and then take a second print. The result is amazing. I use a lot of my prints for die cutting, especially butterflies. Happy creating and TFS. Love your work.
Glad to see you've joined the mono printing world! I can spend hours doing this! I definitely would love to see what fun twists you put on the gel press. You mentioned how cutting the print makes it look different. That’s totally true! Even ones I don’t like look nice when cut into a shape or used as a background. Most of what I’ve done has been with acrylic paint, but the same things apply.
I really enjoyed your video today. Such fun. By all means please do more. As always your cards are beautiful. I check several times a day to see if you have posted a new one. It's always the high point of my day~~You make such a difference in our lives~~~
Hi Jennifer, I just started watching gel press videos and I thank you for jumping into a scary unknown technique. Like you, the unpredictable nature of the medium was intimidating to me, so I thank you for using the gel press and then making some beautiful, orderly, cards. I love that you used distressed inks; I’m glad that I don’t have to go out and buy acrylic inks and can use existing supplies. I would love to see more gel press videos from you. You rocked it!
I love the fact you used the Distress Oxide inks for gelli plate printing. Who would of thought we could do this besides using paint. I cannot thank you enough for bringing this out of the box to develop a new technique for backgrounds. I love the style and have multiple stamps and mixed media stencils that I will enjoy doing these backgrounds. Ty you so much!
Fantastic video! So encouraging to see how beautiful these backgrounds are. I was saying "oh My" every time you lifted the paper and stencils. Lila also had gorgeous results! I really have been wanting to try the gel plates and I will be challenging myself and doing it! P.S. Your finished cards...wow!
I'm watching you roll off the excess ink onto another piece of paper thinking You Can Use That! This does look like fun. I love blending colors and thinking I could use the stencils also on top of the gel press. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks.
I have never seen the gel press before your video. Of course, I’m still a beginner to card making. (former scrapbooker) Had to try this, since I love oxide inks. Please continue making cards using this product. Can’t wait to try this out. Have watched your video several times before making my gel press purchase. 👏🏻👏🏻😃
Jennifer, these are really cool! I just started playing with my gel press and I love it, especially with stencils. I would love to see more videos with other layers to get some ideas. Thanks❣️
Hi Jennifer I absolutely love this technique. It’s soo beautiful. I will definitely be trying this. Thanks for the inspiration your soo talented it’s a pleasure watching you.
I do not have a gel press, but this does look like a lot of fun. I agree with the fact that this year has been such a challenge & it is sometimes tough to be creative. Looks like they are extremely affordable & can work with ALL of the supplies we already have. What an awesome idea to mass produce holiday cards. I enjoy creating & donating holiday cards & this year they are needed more than ever. Always enjoy your videos & do not mind if they are long. Thank you for sharing all of your ideas.
What fun! I've got to try this! I have a lot of jungle/safari themed stamps and ephemera. I think this technique will make wonderful backgrounds. Thank You

Jay Dee, I was thinking the same thing about using two gel plates at a time. And YES, use the negative spaces! Endless possibilities!
That's what I was thinking! Its a lot of ink to swipe off onto paper.
Jay Dee thank you. I have several little Gelli plates and I hadn’t thought of working with more than one at a time.
Great idea. Thanks!!!!
OMG what fab ideas!!! Thx so much, i also have a mixed media pkate, this did not work for me but perhaps perfect for that, thx!!!!!

Well, I didn’t think that the gel press technique was something that I was interested in. Until today! Such a cool technique
Snap!! 🙀
I've always been quite content that it was a medium I wasn't interested in...but now! Oh man, I gotta have one!!! 🙀😻
😂 I just ordered the gel press 🤦♀️

Hi Jennifer, yes please keep using the gel press I have been too nervous to use mine but now I will. Thank you for all your lovely work.
Great class. Jennifer, I'm just waiting for Lila to make a video of her card making. I'll bet she'll do great and everyone will enjoy it.
I LOVE these backgrounds! WOW!! I’m so glad you got out your gel press & so glad you shared it with all of us. I would love to see more videos as you continue to learn & create using the press. And please tell Lila she did a GREAT job with her backgrounds & cards. 😄
Yes, more videos on the gel press would be great, along with the different kinds of ink/paint that can be used. Love this video!
Hi Jennifer. Beautiful, please do show more. Its fascinating to watch, and such great results there. Thankyou for sharing, a pleasure to see it all !
O Wow these are gorgeous. I always watch Julie Fei-Fan Balzer do her's but I like this so much better. TFS, and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Yes, please make more of these gel press videos! I have a gel press, but I've never been very comfortable using it... or very happy with the results. But I was using paint. I love the idea of using ink. It's so much easier to do... and less messy! Plus, I love the colors. Thank you!

Oh my heavens, I love this technique!! I had never heard of it before, but I totally love it!!! Your cards are amazing!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved the prints and cards! Yes! Play with your gel plate(s) and show us what you do.
Ooooh! You could heat emboss on the paper *before* taking the gel print. Gotta try that!!!!
I’m taking care of my mom (dementia) so watching your videos and hearing your encouragement gets me excited and hopeful Thank you
Your videos are wonderful! Please keep making more gel press videos. There are so many wonderful things that can be done with the gel press.
Oh my- now I want a gel press:). Thank you for inspiring us again! I actually gasped when you lifted the paper on the first stencil. Stunning.
Wow what a tutorial fantastic just what I needed a few month ago I made my own geli plate I made one the same size as yours and a round 1 they worked out perfect I was so chuffed I had never done anything like that but never got round to have a good old play with you have got me going defiantly going to make some back ground cards thankyou so much
I bought mine. I heard there are videos showing how to make your own geli plates. Was it hard to do?
Jennifer - one of your bestest videos of all time. thank you so much for all the encouragement & your kindness. Have been trying to figure out what to do for the background in this years holiday card & you have helped me with figure out the solution. bless your heart!
The reason you feel like an artist is your are! A brilliant video again, so fun made it my day!
Yes please Jennifer! I would love to see you play with stamps. Thank you!💕💕
After watching this video I have got to go buy the supplies. You are an inspiration and blessing to so very many.
What a lovely way to spend time watching your video. That looks like so much fun. Thank you.
Jennifer, you inspired me to get my gel press out & play with it. Great video. Try embossing your cardstock first, then make sure you make a second print with plain cardstock. The 2nd print is almost better than the first one. It works best with a really deeply embossed cardstock
Ow waauw would never thought of that, thx!!!
I had to stop the video and immediately purchase a gel press and brayer...blown away by how gorgeous these backgrounds turned out!!!!!!
Great demonstration and instruction! Thank you! BEAUTIFUL papers and cards!!
I have never seen anything done on a gel plate that looked halfway attractive. Thank you for showing us that it is possible and useful. I have been curious about them, but leary as well.
Love kids' creativity, they are wonderfully unique! thank you for sharing Lila's creations.
Thank you for treading uncharted waters for us. I think I’ll give this a try.
Please do more of these videos. This was so fun to watch!
I love using gel plates and would like to see more videos using them . Thank you!
Loved LOVED every minute of this video. So creative, inspirational and beautiful. Please do more videos like this.
You probably will. :). I am having so much fun with it.
I didn't think this would catch my attention...wrong! Would love to see more videos, thank you for sharing!
Ordered a gel press from Amazon yesterday, it came today, and you're right...very fun and addictive!!
Soooooooooo cool and very addictive looking! Thanks for sharing something new and your playful journey with this technique.
So pretty! The prints on the right from swiping would made great envelopes for the cards made from the gel press 😍 definitely going to try this out
Stop the presses- the gel presses.. two of my favorite things.. Jennifer McGuire and Gelli plates- I am in heaven! I know it's gonna be great!
I'm watching you roll off the excess ink onto another piece of paper thinking You Can Use That! This does look like fun. I love blending colors and thinking I could use the stencils also on top of the gel press. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Welcome to the gel print world! 😀 Once you’re in, you never want to leave... 😊
you can spend like 1 hour and end up with close to 50 prints easily....it is addicting!
I have never seen the gel press before your video. Of course, I’m still a beginner to card making. (former scrapbooker)
Had to try this, since I love oxide inks.
Please continue making cards using this product. Can’t wait to try this out. Have watched your video several times before making my gel press purchase. 👏🏻👏🏻😃
I loved your video Jennifer. Looks easy to do. I need to try this.
great job explaining & showing how to use the gel press with brayers.👍‼️
Absolutely!!! Do more. I have had a gel press for a long time and didn't know what to do with it for cards.
Jennifer, these are really cool! I just started playing with my gel press and I love it, especially with stencils. I would love to see more videos with other layers to get some ideas. Thanks❣️
Hi Jennifer
I absolutely love this technique.
Thank You
This is fabulous! I can hear the joy in your voice. I would love to try these techniques. Thank you for sharing!
