Now you need to be independent enough to give your parents the life they need. This is India, the ground reality is lack of basic knowledge and poverty in the rural areas or ( states ). In modern families where the girl is independent, she can keep her parents. Nobody dares to speak against her. But in rural areas many females are themselves dependent on their husbands which is why they are not able to support their parents. If they have married to a good natured husband then it's not a big deal. But again it's developing India and not a developed one...

Her husband hit her, threw her out of the house, filed a complaint against her that she stole their jewellery and people in the police station advised our family that the girl and her family should learn to compromise. Society needs to change. Otherwise daring people will be completely isolated and that pressure is way too much to handle for anyone. Which is why lots of parents still give dowry despite it being illegal. So people need to be made aware and entertainment media is a big part of that. But sadly, we dismiss such things as being woke, anti-religion, anti- tradition. Almost all religions and cultures do this. For example that amir khan ad where he goes to her wife's house because her parents have no son. They make it issue of religion. I am hindu and my immediate concerns come about hindu society, not about muslims or christians with whom I have never even interacted.
