In Kerala, there is a huge fan base to Vijay from Tamil industry. Fan base for Allu Arjun from Telugu Industry. Sharakhan from Hindi industry... And these fans are mostly 90s kids.

Yes. Vijay's fan started to notice him because of his songs and dance. But sadly after 2010 tamil film music is not that much great.

Malayali audiences like over the top masala movie. But we like to see it when non Malayali actors do it. We wont accept it if a Malayalam actor do it.

Pokkiri was brought for 1 crore here, that was the biggest amount quote for a non malayalam at that time. Between this and kaavalan, every film released were called hangovers of pokkiri just like how aegan and asal were called hangovers of billa.

Kavalan was narrated to Vijay first. It was supposed to be either 49th(under AVM, then they made Vettaikaran) or 50th film. Since the producers were expecting mass films, Kavalan was not happened in Tamil at that Siddique made in Malayalam. After 50th, Vijay went back to Siddique and they made in Tamil.

Most Malayalis can grasp tamil if not ancient tamil. That's why those tamil films ran well here. Coming to telugu, it was always its dubbed tamil version released in kerala until allu arjun's aarya opened the malayalam dub for telugu here. Prior to vijay, kamal had the most number of fans for a non malayalam actor even though not that die hard. 2000s marked the entry of other state actors gaining fans here but pan indian films made this kind way for other actors in other states except cases like rajni, suriya in andra. Back in late 00s to mid 10s, there was a severe rivalry between vijay and suriya fans here in kerala, akin to mohanlal and mammootty fans. However, that all dried up post 2015 with the coming of nivin pauly with premam and dulquer salman with charlie affecting suriya's market. In telugu, there was a rivalry between allu arjun and ram charan fans here until ram charan started to give flop after flop. He was a bit late to the pic. This is not saying other actors don't have fans here. Ajith had a very few number of fans from early 2000s however he started out here with films which showed him in action roles like in amarkalam, dheena. Films like billa and mankatha really gave him a boost here however it was enough to compete even against suriya let alone vijay. Mahesh babu is rarely seen as an actor here. Ntr is never in the pic. Prabhas got famous here post baahubali as anywhere else. Naani had some neutral here.
