- The German T8 Battleship Bismarck, much like the Friedrich, is very well rounded, capable of taking on just about anything. However it's also the very first BB where I can recommend going for a secondary-build, as it's straight up hilarious to play. Watching all those small guns open up at the ridiculous range of 10.6km just puts a smile on my face every time. You can skip to 13:35 for Bismarck vs Tirpitz fight and 17:20 for Modules, Upgrades and Captain Perks.

@@AlexGNR Do you think, had the Kriegsmarine sortied all their forces immediately, that they could have ever "saved" Bismarck, or was it more of a question that the ship was doomed the moment the rudder was damaged, and the most they could have done was Evacuate the Crew and just scuttle the ship ?
AlekTrev006 extremely unlikely as the Kriegsmarine couldn’t match the Royal Navy at all. And Bismarck wasn’t in range for Luftwaffe support.

@@Spinomaks Hmmm....I know the KM could never match ship-for-ship the huge Royal Navy == rather, I meant specifically the squadron that ended up taking down Bismarck (Rodney, King George V, Dorsetshire, Norfolk, Sheffield, Cossack, Maori, Sikh, Zulu, etc, and I guess we have to consider Ark Royal too)... couldn't that have been matched by (in theory) Tirpitz, Scharny, Gneisenau, Hipper, and a dozen KM Destroyers ? Or was there just not enough time to sortie all that stuff between the Torp hit to the Rudder, and the eventual sinking ?
Remember when secondaries were this good, and pushing onto a site as a bb wasn't a death sentence
back then when WoW was still fun to play...
I got the Bismarck simply because i saw one of these secondary build vids, looked like a lot of fun. Now it’s pretty fucken useless even against cruisers.
@@Azakadune I'm so sorry. Back when it first came out Bismark was one of the most fun ships in the game, all the German BBs were. I miss when brawling was viable in this game...
I got caught too close to a Bismarck when i was in a Cruiser (i don't remember which one it was). I was 8.5 km away and started running away and i never got away. It felt like he had a HE machine gun and was shooting at me non-stop. Its like the Bismarck has an HE spamming Atlanta on top of its ship.

I revisited this video in 2020, they really killed the dispersion on German secondaries, while the guns are still unreliable.
If you listen in the distance, you can hear the carriers, destroyers, and American battleships weeping at the arrival of the German battleships.

I wonder how much rage those DDs have. My Atago runs a concealment, AA built and a minor secondary as some of the skills have secondary skills attached. I shot down All the planes of a Ranger. I got so close to him. He panic and tried to sink me.... Good times. Sank him and sent his planes into the bottom of the ocean. Anyway going back to this topic. I am thinking that is might be fun. Yamato can run this as well but up to 8km, but a Yamato puts a tremendous volume of fire from its secondaries. So either one would be dangerous for the health of a DD.
Awesome! Glad to see someone finally posting this build. I LOVE HE secondary focused ships. I remember one game where I rushed a cap with my Warspite against three destroyers, and my secondaries killed all three before I died. That ship really made me crave good secondary oriented ships ... so when the Bismarck stats got leaked a month or two ago and I saw the 7km base secondaries, I started cackling like a madman :D
My German BB captain is only at 13 points right now, and I'm grinding away on the Bayern, but that ship, and both my Tirpitz and Scharnhorst have secondary specs already (AFT+module). Even if the guns are not that accurate yet, I love the psychological effect they have on ships around me, and even now they have no problems starting fires on big targets like battleships. Can't wait for the 15th point!
All that being said, I REALLY feel like Tirpitz should get Hydro now. Bismarck really excels in the 5-10km range, but Tirpitz needs to get even closer to be effective. It really needs that Hydro to be considered balanced compared to Bismarck.

It honestly makes me so happy you praising that Bismarck build so much. I think WG did an AMAZING job with designing this Bismarck. I cannot wait to get my hands on her and show everyone that this ship is no joke.

Nameless Edelweis no, he is right. The question of "he" or “she" probably arises from a personal recollection of Bismarck's most famous survivor, von Müllenheim-Rechberg, who said that Captain Lindemann asked that the ship should be referred to as "he", in view of its awesome power.
It's conventional, however, for seamen to use the feminine pronoun. I think it's a term of endearment.

Actually your suppose to spam HE when a BB is angled on you and using his armor to bounce your shots. Just saying.
A bb doesnt spam anything with a reload of 30 seconds. shooting HE is almost always a bad idea
a highly instructive lesson for BB drivers thanks have a tirpitz and im working on my captian now i know were to go cheers Flamu i think this will actually help a lot of BB drivers with there destroyer issue well at least make it a bit less pain full

I went all out for the Hindenburg, but it felt like just a slightly uprated Hipper, Nothing special.
But my fully upgraded Bismark with those beautiful secondaries, now that's just something else. Love it.
this was pretty funny, even better at the DDs expense. Grinding up Tier 3-5 now. can't wait to do this myself. Thanks.
Where does it show the Tirpitz having faster reloading Secondaries? In game it shows the same reload as the Bismarck.

OMG i cant wait! Got the secondary range captain skill on the german T5+20%range upgrademodule+5%range-flag=6,8km. Its fun here already. Must be amazing on the Bismarck. Should be able to get the manual-aim for the secondaries too until T8 :-D
Can't wait to see this with my own Bismarck, but server is too full to even find a game with a battleship. So I guess I have to wait for a while, until the hype is away. Not going to wait 3/4 minutes to find a game.

got one question to you regarding the German BB line if there was one ship out of it that you would have to chose and also use it for Sharnhorst and Tirpitz, then which ship would it be?
I ask because that is my plan. I already got Tripitz with 4 skill captain. Now I just got Sharnhorst and intend to keep one of German BBs but can't keep them all for later selection as this would be very costly.
To remind my first meeting to bismark,i took my bb(lower tier) to go to the whole map suddenly in the darkness situation i just realize that i was close to a huge vessel that from her body fire something like a fire works that made me astonishing and surprising then i watched carefully her name was bismark, omg, i was so impressed to her secondary armament,like a fire works glowing in the darkness after all i had been succeededto get rid of her without getting sunk

Not if you have the tier 5 captain skill for secondary's that makes them accurate like in the video.
Would you recommend this build for the "Fred the Great"? That is what I have right now, not with the 5 point perk though. It seems to work ok but my dispersion affects my hit count obviously.

ok yeah, seeing the bismark next to those houses north of A... Yeah I never really realize how massive these ships are, and how fast they actually are moving. The shear force these ships have when moving like that... it's awe inspiring.

I would say the main batteries are weak-ish at range. They are 38cm after all. You need to get close to get them to work. Like the Scharnhorst the Bismark seems to be a ship for skilled people.
+Achim Hanischdörfer yeah but you want to get close, that's where your armor works best, your secondaries work best and your guns work best. Why would you snipe an enemy NC when you have all the advantages over him at close range.

Hey Flamu, the AFT perk basically increases secondary range from 8.82 (secondary mod 2 + secondaries flag) to 10.6 and increases the time planes are exposes to your AA dps by +20% roughly. On the other hand Manual AA increases your AA efectiveness on The Bismarck by +50% +/- (I can send you detailed numbers) by increasing the big guns AA on an extra +100% dps.
Is it worth it? I mean, how many secondary hits acctually land on the range window 8.82 to 10.6? In this video I could not see much, for example vs the New Mex and Scharnhorst they roughly start landing around 9 km, the DDs were under 7... So, why not trying both Manual AA and manual secondaries giving up AFT to get a tiny bit better AA? I am wondering this specially due to the TIX and TX with worse maneuverability and specially the TX weaker AA, proportionally...

I have this exact build on mine I got to T9 japan cause I wanted to do that for Yamato but gave up then grinded up German tree for this one and it’s pretty fun

I’m still deciding if this still applies post-CV rework, but certainly pre-rework, tier 7 and 8 are where I feel the German battleships really hit their stride. I love the absolute hell out of the Gneisenau, regardless of what most seem to think of her, and the Bismarck is pretty much exactly as you described. Gneisenau has probably the best secondaries at her tier AND some good torps, it’s stupidly fast and turns fairly well, along with extra thicc armor and almost cruiser-level rate of fire and turret traverse...and to cap it all off, even post CV rework, it’s one of the few tier 7 BB’s that’s worth a damn vs. planes. And pre-rework...I still have fond memories of telling a Lexington “come at me, bro” and getting away with it. BFT, AFT and Manual AA on a Gneisenau used to be utterly hilarious.
Also, Bismarck is the only BB in the game where I bothered experimenting with DE and IFHE, just to be a cheeky bastard. Not quite worth it...but melting a Cleveland with almost nothing but raw HE damage while my guns were busy trashing an Atago was definitely fun.
I haven’t gotten the GK yet, so I don’t have personal experience there, but the FDG feels...ehhh. It’s not necessarily anything wrong with the ship itself (probably my best game ever in my 2-3 years playing was a couple weeks ago in the FDG) but since it’s pretty much a slightly buffed Bismarck at tier 9, it doesn’t give me the same feeling of overwhelming power as Bismarck at tier 8.
I have noticed that the German line seems to have pretty decent AA. In my Zuiho, I actually was losing planes to the t4 German BBs, making them some of the only ships in that tier that are actually able to defend themselves at all.

Looks like this might totally scramble the meta for ranked battles (assuming T8). The matches were stacked with 75% gunboats (sharing smoke in the caps), with one or two CA/BB per side.
does shooting down planes and secondary hits count as damage? do you get credits xp for that? just wondering if it is viable financially as well
Yes and yes
I don't think all the secondaries are HE as there seems to be a few small AP shells flying that seem to come from your ship in most of the fights you get into.

What button do you hit to select a target for your secondaries (and presumably, this works for AA too?)? I have been using the in-game cursor, but I find it a hassle to use

The Bismarck really has 7.0 km stock range on the secondarys. And what range does the other nation tier 8 have? I could look it up cause my PC suddenly crashed. But still thinking about 7 km on Tier 8 makes me wish WG had increased the secondary range of Tier 10 to 8 km instead of the stock 7.0 Yamato and Montana have.

classic4life it’s already implemented, all bbs got the US and RN dispersion. So you can actually hit stuff now and you can actually get multiple citadels in a salvo

Proximity spotting. At 2 km ships will automatically detect each other regardless of LoS, making it possible for ships to be detected even if they are hiding inside a smoke screen or behind terrain. The consumable Hydroacoustic Search can extend this auto-spot range for a limited duration.

Doesn't seem like it should affect Russian DD's as much, since 10-12km is the sweet spot where you can hit enemy BB's and they have a really tough time hitting you back.

you don't get 60% increased accuracy but only 15% from the tier 5 skill. Also the secondary gun range will be a good bit less. So I wouldn't bother.
Interesting, I will keep Gneisenau without a doubt when I get it but I'm trying to decide between concealment or getting the tier 4 aa skill
mybugatti100 if you're gonna have a dedicated Gneisenau captain it's your choice, generally i dont run into enough carriers.

The hydro acoustic search is B.S. (So yes you can expect I'm a dd captain particularly an American dd captain) there are only three things dds can use which is speed, maneuverability, and detection range. As an American dd i need to fire my guns so that eliminates my detection range advantage (which wasn't as good as the Japanese dds to begin with). So my question is "why would they make the smoke screen useless with the hydro acoustic consumable?".

Don Guo they don’t have the same turtle back armour that protects Bismarck at close range as well as the main guns can’t hit for shit
quick question. if the tirpitz would have had secondary build. would the outcome be different?
My Tirpitz has a secondary build and it goes out to 6.8km. This is with the 20% upgrade captain perk, 20% module and the 5% flag. SO it doesn't go nearly as far.

Not at all. Below 6km Tirpitz is superior due to her Torps. Already finished a couple of Bismarcks relying too much on their secs that way. Best was the guy chasing me around an Island.
Well based on the stats in the Docks: Tirpitz secondary have a much better rate of fire than the Bismark so torpedoes aside and if they are both built the same way and in 6K range, Tirpitz should win. Secondary accuracy might come in play however because i suspect the Bismark guns to be more precise.
Tirpitz's secondary opens at 10.2 without flag with the right 2ndary build including the 2 captain perks. with the flag its 11.2
Imagine a BB pushing into a cap within the first 4 min in 2021... I miss how this game used to be.

Saying 25k damage by secondaries isn't much, that's more than a T10 DD hp pool. It does absolutely help in looking at a total enemy hp pool
Tirpitz sec. guns was 5km at the beginning of this ship 2015,and it was nerfed to ONLY 4.5 km range dude!

Not nearly as well, Scharnhorst secondaries are 5.3km range stock, where as Bismarck's ones are 7km. It also lacks the Hydro to be able to push in and make them work.

Why would they have to nerf this? DD drivers who bitch & moan about not being able to get within shotgun range of a BB with impunity shouldn't get any sympathy. These secondary gun batteries are like tick repellent but the tradeoff is poor long range capability

Bismarck today:
- t8 cv's rip you apart if you dont have multiple aa-ships around you
-your tiny 380mm guns don't do shit to anyone, the secondarys dont pen much anymore
- Even if you are toptier in game you struggle
Compared with the massachusetts you suck in every way apart from hydro. It's a real grind to the FdG. Recently bought the Massa: it's what the Bismarck has been years ago and so much more fun, sadly
First time I run into a Bismarck was with a Pensacola. I saw him 12km away and started shooting, after a while I suddenly saw a rain of firepower (quite literally a fucking rain of shells) coming while he was still 10km away and I got pretty much instantly killed. I thought it was completely unbalanced at first, then I just thought wtf I NEED to get one of those bro and that’s pretty much why I started unlocking German BBs
