I never understand Penelope. Has she ever even loved Cheryl in the first place? And did she treat Jason the same way before he died or did she favor him over Cheryl? Early episodes showed her having a soft side as a parent and unlike her husband she would never kill her own kids, but over the course of the series that soft side is starting to decrease when her cruelty to Cheryl worsened
Penelope did not have a family that loved her and was forced to marry a man she did not want since childhood. She was left alone by everyone, including her friends Alice, FP jones, Hermione etc. That’s why she can’t show affection and love, if she didn’t have it herself. Then finding out that her husband killed her son and didn’t even receive a little comfort, destroyed her inside and made her become cold and mean to anyone. I have so much compassion for her, and she’s actually my favorite character. And just as Cheryl found the friends who helped her in difficult times, Penelope also needs support and comfort.
Nadim Abbas In the scene with Archie in season one Cheryl says what did my dad say to you? That everyone thinks I’m a train wreck? And that Jason was always the golden boy. So I believe Cheryl and Penelope has never had that good of a relationship. And that when Jason was alive he was her favourite and Cheryl was never treated as well as Jason. That Cheryl was treated as if she will never be as good enough as Jason. And that she will always be second best to Jason. But I feel like when Jason died that’s when Cheryl and Penelope’s relationship hit rock bottom. Especially after she found out Cheryl lied and tried to help Jason leave town. I feel like she blames Cheryl for Jason’s death as well. And that’s when she began to treat Cheryl much worse and even got physically abusive with her. It’s of course not confirmed but that’s what I think happened.💕
I think she loves Cheryl. Maybe she sees herself in Cheryl that's why she hates her at the same time because Cheryl is a girl too. She was sold to marry someone she didn't want. How they controlled her life as a girl. And even though she knew that her husband killed his son, she kept it from Cheryl because she was just afraid to lose her. She even sent her to a scary nun place and tried to steal the money that her husband gave to his daughter because it can make Cheryl free from her. She's just possessive of her daughter plus she's cold and numb too.
Well, the truth is that I can understand penelope a little, because the truth should not be very nice that you go from being an orphan of not having a family and when they adopt you and think that you are going to make them happy. your life becomes worse than before, and that they are literally forcing you to marry who is supposed to be ¨your brother¨ and that on top of her that nana rose for what I know, he has not given her affection. I think surely Nana Rose treated Penelope like Penelope treated Cheryl like that [because otherwise, Penelope wouldn't try to kill Rose, and it's ironic since Cheryl almost does the same thing by setting her house on fire and then threatening her mother to to keep quiet about the fire.] that would explain that penelope by not having a good relationship with rose and at the same time generating the same traumas along with the insecurities and problems that caused her, and for everything else she began to treat cheryl like that Let's also say that she sees herself in Cheryl, since the two are the same in both physical and personality, and that is why in some way she identifies with her and that is why when she sees herself in Cheryl, she already takes it out. that penelope has hatred for herself and that's why she has tried to do it. The truth is I believe that deep down he loves her only that she, by not receiving love and affection and going through that painful childhood full of trauma, makes her unable or unwilling to show love or any affection to Cheryl, I would have liked her to Relationship would have improved just a little bit or if she asked for forgiveness at least [although asking for forgiveness is not going to take away the horrible memories and traumas that I left her but even if it is to apologize, and at least give her a hug]
I think In away Penelope sees to much of herself in Cheryl due to having so much self hatred she’s lashes out on Cheryl
