Cool to hear people discussing this issue. Here's how I see it. Federal reserve (private and not part of government) creates "money" and manipulates availability of "money" through interest rates. The created "money" is loaned to the US gov in exchange for bonds...these loans come with interest (usury). The problem is, the interest "money" is never created so it is impossible for the loan to be paid back with interest. Therefore, the only option is to creat another loan in exchange for government bonds (with interest again) to pay off the previous loan with interest. This cycle goes on and on. Usury is mathematical fraud. No matter how hard the borrow(ers) work there is never enough money in the system to pay back the loans with interest, therefore perpetuating the scam indefinitely. The answer is sound money and a true free market.

Jesus flipped the tables enraged because he understood this. Usury, fractional reserve banking , fiat, etc. enslaves the people.

Matthew 25:27 in the parable of the talents says the following: "Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest.". He expected to gain wealth without works and called it his own money. Additionally each of the people gave them the talents and it says that they said "Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more. His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ He did not give the interest to him but he set him over more as an overseer. If your definition of usury is making money without doing work then every single person who has an employee is doing the same. Your definition of usury is way to broad and is not consistent with how the Church does and has looked at it.

Isn't the point in Matt 25:27 that the unfaithful servant expects the master to reap what he has not sown, and thus the master's reply is a crude remark on the servants unfaithfulness? The master doesn't take interest on the gains, but rather sets his servants over more.
It would not be usurious to make money without doing work. In the case of biblical slavery, this was engaged in as a means to pay back a debt. In the case of modern employment, at least in smaller firms, the employment of staff is both based on the investment of the owner (the property of the business is an investment at risk), and often leads to or is even based upon the acquiring of skills for the employee. Blue collar apprenticeship is an example of this.

Hold on, you can't have any savings?
I agree Usury is evil. But saving money is something wise men do in Sirach and Proverbs etc...
    Right?
    Thanks guys.

Does Ohio Federal Catholic Credit Union actually avoid usury?

Confused as to why it would be better, if they don't - I was under the impression the only hope a modern person has to have money in any bank-like institution is to have an Islamic-law approved account.

Ohio Federal Catholic Credit Union still charges interest and therefore is guilty of usury per your definition. I am having trouble taking you seriously if you still use a bank that charges interest.

We all have to be hypocrites in this modern era! It's impossible to completely escape the system. That's the truth of the matter. The point is to pull away from as much as you can and to rebuild a new, Christian polity as much as possible.

But a credit union aims to break even. So it's not usery.
