When I was in high school in the late 70s an older neighbor whose driveway I shoveled during the winter told me about seeing the Graf Zeppelin fly over the little community of Mineral City, Indiana, in 1927. She also remembered the sinking of the Titanic and Lusitania.
+Andrew Brendan She had to be talking about the original Graf Zeppelin, not the airship in this video which was the sister ship of the Hindenburg which crashed at Lakehurst in 1937... It's technically not correct to call it the Graf Zeppelin II... There's no numeral in the name. The original Graf Zeppelin, LZ-127, flew around the world in 1929. That's probably when your neighbor saw it. It overflew 13 states of the continental US and it did pass by Chicago which is fairly close to northern Indiana. She could NOT have seen it before 1929... The LZ-127 didn't fly until 1928! If she DID see an airship before 1929, then it was likely an American airship. The only American airship operational in 1927 would have been the Los Angeles (LZ-126, USN designation ZR-3) which was a zeppelin built for the US Navy as part of war reparations for World War I.

0:56 Wow, those engine houses! With all the water recovery system inside.. if Hitler had not existed, the company zeppelling would have keep making zeppellings and today they would have such advance airships that they would be the most common transport vehicle today for cargo over all the world or for people over short distances at very cheap cost. In fact, even in that time, they were very close to solve the flammability problem of the envelope and many other breakthrough more that they would be included in the LZ-131.
