Probably got your CBET by the time I write this. I’m old- took the CBET exam in 1980 when they still had some questions on hybrid tube/solid state ekg machines. I just retired last year.
It’s true that problems can be caused by others working in the area, or if you just did a PM & something doesn’t work, always backtrack. You hate to hear that everything was working fine until you did the PM!

White and black on a wire nut could be a switch leg. You have a rat's nest and a mess on that transformer for sure. I hate it when I find boxes open and trash in the ceiling.
