Want a good purple stain/dye? I use Americolor gel food color, mixed with vodka and it has worked fabulous. As long as the finished project is kept out of direct sunlight, it'll hold the color for years, when protected with a clear topcoat. Try it! You'll be amazed and they offer about 60 different colors to choose from. You can also mix and match for your own colors. Best way I've found to stain wood, yet! 😁

I have heard this is a good way to dye wood.

@@BuildDadBuild , it really is. If you don't mind, I'll send you some examples of my Shao Sugi Ban, dyed with Americolor, so you're able to see the quality of the dye. The waste of vodka sucks a bit, but who cares, right? As long as you're able to create the piece, with the exact color you've envisioned!!!

thought about this, came to check on youtube if its possible and how it would look and its perfect for the look i had in mind where the grain is popping and the color in rich but transparent.

  • @TheMurlocKeeper

This was a much better result than I expected, to be honest, lol!
Not sure how it'd hold up if in sunlight too much.
I still think I'd prefer just sticking to India inks, which come in a greater range of colours, and you can get them a lot more pure.
I used India inks to dye a couple of Ikea stools, because i couldn't find normal wood dyes in bright greens and purples, lol!
India inks are a bit expensive though, but I think they're worth it.
Again...use isopropyl to water them down if you're afraid the colour might apply too strong to your surface....but I did not find this the case when I dyed my stools.
Wish I could show you a picture, lol!
    They turned out so good!

You’re moving up on my favorite UA-cam list. In my top 5! YOU ROCK. Not a fan of the nail polish, it’s not my thing but we all can’t be fashionable. I am looking forward to your next video. I love the sanding tool, the “Restorer” and will be getting one after Christmas. I’ll have to go back and check out your links for purchase. Thanks for the effort you put into your videos. Um... maybe try a drawing ink? Or a refill for studio art markers? They're more expensive than Bic Marks-A-Lot, but you wouldn't have to futz about with ripping the markers apart to get at the ink. You just need to check that they're transparent, so you don't obscure the wood grain. I just know that ink-based Pitt drawing brush pens are lovely on wood. Just sayin'.
