    At lest they got endings, I just hate it when a show is canned on a cliffhanger

      I despise the Teen Titans series finale, which is an example of a cliffhanger. Season 5 was an extra season given to the team on the show to FINISH developing the characters. But instead, they leave us at a cliffhanger. Isn't the point of an extra season to do the opposite? To finish the story off? Not to mention in my opinion, the rest of Season 5 wasn't very good either.

    • @HerSandiness
      @HerSandiness 6 років тому +18

      For me it was spending eight seasons hearing about the mysterious Mother, meeting her and falling in love with her in season 9, and then not even a decent send-off when she died. No funeral, no seeing Ted truly grieving for her, just now you see her - now you don't. It was TERRIBLE editing... They totally disrespected the role Tracy played as the love of Ted's life...
      If there had actually been some serious grieving scenes from Ted, maybe we wouldn't all be so pissed that he ended up with Robin after all.

    HIMYM should have been titled "how I met your aunt Robin, and settled for your mother". They threw out multiple sessions of character development, from Ted moving on from Robin, to Barney falling in love and giving up his party life style, all in the span of 15 minutes.

    • @DSan-kl2yc

      But he did change during the marriage. He only went back to it, as far as we know, when they divorced. And then he permanently changed when he had a daughter. They kind of foreshadowed that when his dad told him he'd change for the right "girl." The way his dad said it, and the fact that losing Barney made the dad change and get better, made it seem like he wasn't saying, "when you find the one you'll settle down." It made it seem like he was saying, "when you have a kid, you'll want to be the best person you can be for them."

      And the bartender tells him "From here on, the leaps are going to get harder" and then he leaps into himself with his mission to tell Al's ex-wife that Al is coming home, literally the easiest leap he's ever undertaken. And then he leaps into nothing.
      To be fair, the episode was pretty much in post-production when they heard the next series had been cancelled. So there was not a lot they could do to turn the show into a wrap-up. Still one of the worst final episodes ever.

      Actually, Quantum Leap's finale is one I point to as an optimal finale. You have Sam find out that what's happening to him isn't random, but serves a greater purpose. When given a chance to choose any jump and mission he wants, Sam uses that opportunity to save his friend Al's first marriage, preventing the downward spiral that had been Al's personal life up to that point. In the end, we're left with a hero who will continue to carry out a vital duty, despite the personal cost.

    I was actually even more offended they broke Barney and Robin up at the end because that made it feel as if their entire had gone to waste. Consequently that was the same thing with Robin and Ted getting back together because realizing they're not good for each other was one of the more mature arcs in the show and I just wish they would've driven that home more decisively instead of throwing the premise out of the window, probably because they were thinking it would be a smart subversion of expectations.

    • @DSan-kl2yc

      Barney and Robin's relationship was basically a throw away joke at the end... all the development, and the painful to watch last season all about them for a stupid joke that didn't pay off "oh yeah we got divorced, it didn't work lol" i don't care for excuses, if that happens sometimes or not in real life, they forced us to watch an entire damn season about them to be "undone" at the last minute... and it wouldn't be that bad of said season as somewhat good, but it was awful

    I'm going to say that the most disappointing thing about the Smallville series finale wasn't the ruddy suit (the writers actually asserted over and over that we would NEVER see Tom in the suit so I was prepared for that and also it's just a suit calm down), but the fact that the richest character development in the series was that of Lex Luthor, and they undid every ounce of it by ERASING his memory. Why is Lex even evil without his memory? Why would he be an enemy to Clark? What is the POINT of the entire series without that gorgeous arc they created for one of the most iconic villains in comic book history?

    • @duelingfattiesgaming2130
      @duelingfattiesgaming2130 6 років тому +12

      Exactly. Not sure where they got that the creators wanted to have Welling don the suit? Like you said they said he'd never wear it in the series and you'd most likely never see it.
      I also agree with you about Lex. Making him go super crazy that early in the show as a villain then have him killed off and used via clones made no sense.

    • @Ninjajp247

      In the continuation of the series. Tess Mercer is dead. Lex has enemies from all over reminding him of who he was. Just some rich guy who is living scared. Plus Clark's identity.

      From what I heard was if there was going to be another season it was going to have Al leap through time looking for Sam. The last season of QL was a mess. Sam leaping into Lee Harvey Oswald because JFK was huge at the time. The evil leaper. The Trilogy storyline. Leaping into Dr. Ruth, Elvis and trying to save Marilyn Monroe. Then the ending.

    • @jriley5476
      @jriley5476 4 роки тому +1

    • @bkjbearcat78
      @bkjbearcat78 4 роки тому

      @Rob Melrose Agreed some of the season worked but for me a lot didn't. I remember the Trilogy storyline in episode 1 was portrayed as a supernatural storyline. Then from episode 2 and 3, Sam just falls in love with a sexy southern gal and has a love child with her. What happened to the Southern Gothic supernatural story?
      For me, the Evil Leaper had Jump the Shark written all over it. In stead of writing compelling stories like they used too, lets just have Sam have a evil nemesis. His Cobra to Sam and Al’s GI Joe. Plus and I can’t believe I forgot this, the Swept Away episode with Brook Shields. It felt like a 4th wall braking wink to the audience. And yes the Civil War episode with the twist ending was one of the worst of the show.
      I loved the show and I would of hated it if the show went into another season what would happen. More outrages stories. Al and maybe Sam leaping into famous people. Sam and Al trying to save guys like MLK or trying to warn the US from the Pearl Harbor attack. And since Al was Italian I could see an episode where Al leaps into Roman times.

    When Quantum Leap got cancelled, the producers tacked on a final five minutes to their horrendous cliffhanger season finale in an attempt to end the series properly. Though the weight of the blame should be on NBC for breaking their promise to keep the show around for another season, the tacked on ending had no satisfaction whatsoever.

      I thought that was awful and a betrayal to the show, too. For one, the "leap" wasn't a real leap. It was just Sam materializing in front of Al's wife and telling her he was alive. No actual effort involved by Sam at all. Second, it nullifies the episode with Al's wife when it was clear that God did NOT want Sam to save that marriage and made things like the end of the Dr. Ruth episode pointless.

The ending we got was rushed, filled with bad story telling, and used the ending that was originally made for the conclusion of one of the earlier seasons. If you think about it, the finale was a ride off into the sunset since Ted came back to Robin after all those years despite knowing their relationship would fail. Boy, Ted went from a character I wanted to root for to a character I hope dies alone.

      Benjamin Saunders im sorry, could you see barney being happy of having a kid in season 2? No. He needed to grow to have a kid. Robin was always hold back by love instead of working, now shes got her face on side of busses and shit.
      You dont even realise how much they've grown. You rather just bitch and think nah, last season sucked and didnt make sense even tho, with someone as insecure as ted, only he would tell a story to his kids this elaborated so him going for robin and moving on from the mother wouldnt be a big deal..

    • @MasterDoctorBenji
      @MasterDoctorBenji 6 років тому +6

      kalvin warren-mccarthy Actually Barney has always wanted kids. He grew to want more then that a family a wife.. you could see that. He slowly grow tired of one night stands and looked for relationships and then what happened? He got married, then divorced, then back to one night stands. Forgetting that he grew past that.
      Robin always put career before love. Sure. Let's say she didn't grow past that... She did. She made career choices based on love MULTIPLE times in the last half of the show. Let's say she still put career before love and that's why she and Barney split. But oh hey now that Ted is here she is magically ready.
      Ted moved on from Robin. In the real finale, The end of the Aisle when Robin and Barney finally become the people they needed to become they kissed. Ted saw this and what did he do? Look sad? Longing? Angry? No, he smiled, he was happy. He finally moved on and became the person he needed to be to before he was ready for their mother. Like he said in episode. This is a story of how I became the person who i needed to be when I met your mother. That was the entire point of the show. What did they do? Oh no it was always Robin. But that's okay because there mom is dead any way. It doesn't matter. The writers confirmed shortly after that they made a mistake because they always intended to put them together. But the characters grew in different ways.

The biggest growth was that he actually made the effort to get married after years of shitting on marriage. But it was never gonna last long. He's a womanizer to the day all the way thru.
      Now, I could be wrong. But IF say he got a kid much sooner, then maybe it truly changes him. If anything, he make a great parent, but a lousy husband.

(That's the one where, in the final scene, we learn the whole series was the fantasy of an autistic child, who imagined his hard-hart father and retired grandfather as surgeons in a hospital that was under construction. It included a jab straight at the audience, as dad and grand-dad discussed the boy's fascination with a snowglobe containing a miniature of the hospital, to the effect of "what does he get out of staring at that glass box all day" - clearly jabbing the audience's watching their TVs. It was a finale still hated after all these years.)

Her Nemesis and rival at the department store was Margaretha, the head of purchase. At the beginning, the viewers were, more or less, told that Karin was the good and Margaretha was the evil. Karin was killed off at the end of season 2 and at the end of the final season, Margaretha had her job and was living in her apartment with her ex-husband and her daughter. Northern Exposure’s entire final season. Despite it being an ensemble show, the loss of Rob Morrow left some pretty huge plot holes to fill. The series had already curdled as David Chase took over (there are stories of him having been jealous of NX’s Emmy wins while he ran I’ll Fly Away with no Emmy wins) and tinkered with plot lines and characters. Adding a new doctor while making Chris Maggie’s new love interest turned the show into a shell of itself. And the engagement party finale at Maurice’s didn’t salvage anything.

    There was one bit of the last season of HIMYM that genuinely made me cry and only makes sense if you know the ending. The episode which starts with Ted telling Tracy his stories only to discover that she knew them all already, now fast forward to the end of that episode and one line of dialogue and some, might I say, fantastic acting from Josh Radnor. So the conclusion of Ted's story was that Robin's mother was at that point was assumed to not be coming to the wedding, but 'surprisingly' does and Tracy says 'What mother is gonna miss her own daughter's wedding?' and Ted starts to cry, this scene made me well up like a baby when I watched the show back years after the finale.

    I still hate the final episode of "Angel". After all of the years the fans invested in following the characters story arcs, to end it on cliffhanger with no resolution was a "slap in the face" to true fans. They killed off so many beloved characters in the final season and left so many questions that would never be answered.

    Lost didn't disappoint me because I had the good sense to stop watching after the first season.
    People watched that show and analyzed each and every detail trying to unravel the mystery, but the joke's on them, as there was no explanation for it all. At least none that was planned out in advance and carefully hinted at. The writers just pulled things out of their asses as they went along, throwing in whatever weird shit they happened to think of while baked, without any thought as how it would all be explained.

For those who have never seen it, some didn't like it because the show doesn't spoon feed you answers, but the answers are there. Even for those who hated the ending, everyone thought the story arc into the final season was amazing. It is worth watching.This show has the best twists, characters, and emotional and WTF moments. The best way to know if you will like the ending is to see if you appreciate endings that are ambiguous like in movies like Inception and Annihilation.

They ignored sooooo many plot threads from the island that were just... dropped (forgotten? ignored? who knows!). The last episode felt good to me and weirdly appropriate. But the way we got there meant that the last episode had to do too much and could never achieve the level it "needed" to.

    • @antibodiesagainstkookery3871
      @antibodiesagainstkookery3871 6 років тому +1

      That only happened twice in the whole of Enterprise, during a season that was intended to speak about 9/11 and Islamic terrorism. Context is everything: Archer, like the USA post-9/11, is not cruel and brutal. But the rage of losing 7 million innocent citizens (Enterprise) or 5,000 innocent citizens (USA) made the protagonist go too far in desperation from time to time. It's important to note, when those episodes of Enterprise were being written, prisoners at Abu Garib were being tortured by "the good guys" on a daily basis much worse than anything you saw in that episode.
      Archer acknowledges in a later episode that he's been behaving in ways he would never have behaved before, simply because the threat of the Xindi destroying Earth is too great, and he's going to have a difficult time dealing with his conscience.
      It's treated tastefully and within the context of the story arc. If you stopped watching Enterprise because of the episode where he puts the alien in the airlock... man, you missed out on some amazing TV. Do yourself a favour and re-watch series 3.

      Canal Azul -- even though J.R.R. Martin hasn't finished writing all the books, he knows Exactly how the saga will end. He's shared that information with the show's producers. The show will have the same ending as the book. Though, right now, the show is different than the story unfolding in the books.

    • @itsnotemy
      @itsnotemy 6 років тому +6

      That is completely incorrect. Martin gave the writers creative freedom when they correctly guessed who Jon Snow's parents were. He is an executive producer and is merely there for advice, not story development. Season 7 (and 8) was completely from the minds of the writers and not Martin himself. In fact, they had to create their own story because of Martin being so far behind on the final novel. Trust me, while he is there to give advice, the plot for season 7 and the final season are all on the writers, not Martin.
      This is actually very obvious. 1-6 were very well paced and had some great character development. Season 7, everything is rushed, people warp around the world like they have time travel abilities, because the show is closing and the writers can no longer develop plots and instead have to tie together stories on their own.

    • @TheLordofMetroids
      @TheLordofMetroids 6 років тому +5

      Yeah, going to have to jump in here, the way GRRM writes explicitly means he DOES NOT know the ending of the series. See GRRM is by his own words a discovery writer, or a gardener as he calls it. Marten creates a world, builds its ideals, ideas and dimension, and then drops his characters into it, and just watches as they play around in it. This writing stile leads to great characters and relationships, but usually has issues with piloting, and especially endings. Have you ever read a Steven King book and been like "well that's a bad ending?" that is because he, like Martin is a discovery writer. Now Martin is working hard to make sure that that does not happen with A Song of Ice and Fire, which is why it is taking so long for the last few books to come out. Well, that and he's a grouchy old man who has tuns of other commitments and just really wants to be done with the whole thing, but also the first part.

    Trigun was a great show. It was only 26 episodes long. They knew well ahead of time when it was going to end and you would figure that they would tie up the story. The show still ended on a cliffhanger where Vash nearly kills his psychotic, murderer brother leaving his love interest and everything else just up in the air. There was a movie that happened thirteen years later that you would think would tie it up, but instead the movie took place between two episodes like four or five episodes before the end of the series.

    Lost lol Literally the feeling you get after that ending. That was such an amazing show up until that point. I just couldn't wait to finally get some satisfying closure and some answers to some of the mysteries, but they never came and the end was so unsatisfying. Up until the last episode I would have said easily the best TV show ever, it was so fascinating.
    But the satisfying answers to those mysteries are the hardest thing to write, it's easy to create interesting mysteries and stories if you never have to reveal answers to them in a meaningful way that feels right. It's easy to get someone interested in what's in the fancy black box, but if you never reveal what's in the box that's just cheap af writing...and that's what happened in Lost. I felt robbed.
