I'm so glad...that you didn't see that happy dance I did just now. It feels really good to have my suggestion picked, and I'm probably being silly, but I'll take the joy from wherever it comes! I genuinely hope you enjoy the Aunt Ruby's German green tomatoes. I know taste is subjective, so if they aren't up your alley...well, I guess we'll have to debate who has the superior taste buds! Ha ha!

Last year at the community garden, I successfully grow the Long Island Cheese Pumpkins, they were so good that I placed second place at our local fall festival. I have also grown the Jamaican Scotch bonnets, they are hot. The cheese pumpkins are good for pies, breads, jams and they store for a long time. I currently have 5 pumpkins left from last years harvest.

Dear Mr Scott. Was watching your 12 suggestions on what not to grow. The emphasis seemed to be on effort, cost and being able to get cheap.y in the store. Being on the pension I do value that. However, after many years my emphasis has gone from the $ to organic, which is expensive in stores. If you read Dr william Li's book, Eat to beat disease, in our cancer age I now am planting his recommended foods. Even at 75 I don't care about the effort if I can remain healthy. Thank you for your programme. Always good to see what people around the world are doing.

This past year I grew 3 of your choices- the Hillbilly tomatoes survived one of the hottest summers in Tucson in years; The little Gem Romain haven't' turned out like the picture on my packet( no tight heads) but they are still very good; the Kajari melons are awesome- fun thing is as they ripen they turn from shades of green to the orange like the picture but you don't have to wonder when they are ripe- they let go of the vine and are just lying on the ground saying "pick me up".

The funny thing is of course that if someone is asking for recommendations for "unusual" plants to grow, it will be hugely dependent on where they're from and what they've grown before! For me, filderkraut is an absolutely bog-standard white pointed cabbage, something I've been eating for over 40 years and nothing particularly special! 😂

How exciting! I grow the gold rush zucchini every year. Love it. I didn’t make any recommendations for you but I do grow in a higher elevation garden (gotta love the cool nights). A pumpkin I like to grow is called NAKED BEAR PUMPKIN. It is a dual purpose pumpkin with hull less seeds and pie worthy. I have to admit the flesh isn’t as tasty as a proper pie pumpkin but it does make a really good pie. With my recipe it tastes buttery and rich. Keep this pumpkin in mind for another year. It is great as I have a small garden so I am limited on varieties and some of the pepitas hull less seeded pumpkins don’t have much flavour and poor texture.

I was one of the people who recommended the Tahitian butternut. I remember your concern that due to the plant being tropical, you might not have enough time in the growing season in Colorado. The Tahitian butternut grows very fast, and will spread all over your garden if you're not careful. By contrast, when I tried planting the much slower growing honeynut squash sown at the exact same time, the plants were still tiny by the time the Tahitian vines had started snaking across the ground.

Tried banana melon last year because the description said it tasted a bit like banana, and wasn't musky. It did well. It tasted like cantaloupe. But my family liked it. We cut up and froze chunks of what we didn't eat, for puppy Popsicles. He went nuts for it. I plan several experiments this year, Artichoke, mainly for the big purple flower.
Jicama, just to see if it will produce here. We do like them.
Elephant garlic, several new tomatoes of course, a few new peppers, and some new herbs. I have a lot of learning to do lol

I'll add a little encouragement towards growing the Merlot lettuce. I got the seeds free last year too, and planted it along with my early spring lettuces. It grew well for me, looked great in a salad, taste and texture were perfect, but the thing that made me decide it was going to be a permanent fixture in my garden was the bolt resistance. As all the lettuces began to bolt when summer weather hit, the Merlot just hung in there beautifully and bridged the gap between my spring lettuces and my summer heat-tolerant lettuces. My forellenschluss/speckled trout lettuce grew about the same, so from now on, both of those will be on my late spring/early summer lettuce schedule.

Looks like there will be plenty of excitement in your garden this year.
I’m trying a new yellow cherry that is not as sweet as Sun Gold, and the black pineapple tomato you had.
I searched for that Alma Pepper without shipping as MI Gardener never got it back in and I was so excited about that box of seeds I ordered on sale last year as I had at least the Hungarian Pepper I think from Renee’s. We made a red sweet pepper powder last year with a bit of hot and it’s terrific. Garlic powder also.
Did you figure out variety for I think it was Napa Cabbage?
The way this weather is so warm up here it tricks you into thinking to start plants. Not yet ☺️
So many varieties and only so much space and time.

I don't think you are crazy. But I think you are going to miss some of your old favorites :) But that said...I bet you find some good new ones.

Great picks! I’m growing some of the same. I received the Merlot lettuce a few years ago as my free seed packet and it’s now one of my favorites. It’s survived a week of 15°F so that’s also a plus. I also like the Landis Winter Lettuce a lot. I’d suggest popping some of them into a GreenStalk if you have room. Can’t wait to see how all of your “firsts” do!

I would love to send you a few seeds I got from Travis at Lazy Dog Farm last year. I love my Black Krim and Paul Robeson but this variety is SO sweet. It will be a permanent tomato if not the only tomato I grow from now on.❤❤😊😊

Is there a list of everything you chose and where you got it? I would like to follow along.
Jack - B - Little grows really well on a trellis so you don't have to waste a lot of space on something that is merely decorative. I once grew it up a chain link fence in pretty crappy soil, I got a good yield of the ones on my side of the fence, the goats on the other side got the "pumpkins" that grew on that side.

I don't have a separate list, just what I mention in the video.

Hey there, weird Sidebar: are you still going to start some pansies? I started a tray on Nov 25 and got c. 80% germination and now have little decorative pots of nice plants around the house, BUT, I am going to start another tray for hardening off for outside and I want to wait for your video if you are going to still do one. I appreciate your knowledge and advice.

I am planning on the pansies. The video will show starting, hardening off, and transplanting so it won't be out for a few months.

Gardener Scott, can I make a suggestion for the end of 2024 to try the Ruth Stout Method for the snowy.season comes including potatoes garlic and maybe some onion which may not work but worth try.
Call out for Gardener Scott, Does anyone have a few spare MiGardener Giant Crimson Tomato Seeds for Gardener Scott?
    Just a thought of a nice gesture😊😊😊

I've been planning a Ruth Stout video for years. I may get to that section of my garden this year but more likely it will be next year.
