From what i remember there is already a movie made in Russia i would also recommend watching Battalion 2015
I just finished watching it and your right Kidd, someone had to survive in order to tell the story.
The Germans told the story because all the Russians that were there died
Someone might have written it down, or barely made it to another russian outpost and relayed it. Maybe even the Germans told parts of this story.
Edit: someone did survive, it was Władysław Strzemiński. He was the second Lieutenant at the fortress. He lived until 1952.

Sabaton also covered the events of the battle in their song, The Attack of the Dead Men.
They wrote down what happened before they died. Nobody survived.

They’re actually was a person to survive, one of the Russians survived the attack, and it was given metals, but if I remember correctly, he had a hard time because of the gas and several other problems
