Ive had pneumothorax two times now with 13-14 years inbetween both times. I went through surgery last week after i hesitated to do the surgery because of the risks associated with being put in artificial coma (probably not the right term in english). You're told theres always a risk and so doctors cant guarantee you'll make it, but when i woke up and the first words i heard was "Surgery was successful", i didnt regret it for a second. I was just happy as a clam, making bad jokes and thanking everyone i saw around me. Im still connected to a cardiothoracic drainage with 2 tubes going out from my right chest, but im gonna live, im gonna LIVE!! :D
What’s your age? I may be going through this but don’t want to go to the icu in case I’m wrong. Lots of ice for pain tonight. I’m trying to figure out best way to sleep 🛌 while watching these videos in bed. I suspect a sleeping pill.
@@TheRealUncensoredTravelGuide Dude. Call the paramedics if u suspect a collapse, its a serious condition if you struggle to breathe, you should check it out. Im 36 years old btw, spent almost 3 weeks in a hospital with tubes after surgery.

Most of my right lung is covered in consolidation and ground glass opacity's and nodule's currently so this is what the doctor meant as at risk of collapsed lung....I didn't realize the difference between that and a pneumothorax.
Many thanks for this excellent explanation. One thing to bear in mind: Brock syndrome. This is where an enlarge lymph node causes compression of the RML bronchs, and it's occasionally seen on chest X rays.
Hi. I am not able to understand how in the first xray of collapsed lung without effusion shows hemithorax opacity? Why it's white instead of dark? And how can a pnuemothorax be without collapsed lung? Because if there's a leakage in the pleural space then it means that there's a damage in alveoli too and so that's called atelectasis right?(because a leakage could only happen if an alveoli is leaked/damaged) Damage of the alveoli causes deflation of alveoli and hence atelectasis and then pnuemothorax right?
its bloody awful, 5 times it happened to me over 12 months, am just pleased they got my lung stuck back to the rib cage now and those zephyr valves are still preventing a collapse,

My grandma had 3 cancers. One included collapsed lung. She would be talking to us then breathe and convulse her head and chest for 3 seconds, her bottom jaw and lip would quiver, stare blankly, then go back to talking until it happened again. Is this something that happens with a collapsed lung?
Hello I wonder had a ct , said I had tiny mesenteric lymphnodes with adjacent fat stranding . Is this normal? Radiology said no pathological lymphdapthy by size criteria.
I had a cat scan due to my kidney hurting real bad. I had to go to the ER. When they ran the catscan on the paper it said I had a partly collapsed lung. But they didn't even tell me. I have been having pain in my left rips. Its been a while now. Almost a year and it's hurting a lot more. I dont have insurance though. So idk what to do. Thank you for the video.
Hi, tough to say what it could mean without more context, but I think it should probably warrant a follow up. Do you have a primary doctor? I would talk to them about it. Thx.
Hi, my brother went to the emrgency room yesterday with Pneumothorax and they wanted to do the procedure on him but he refused and came back home. He's stubern and keeps saying that this had happened to him in the past and it went away. Is this true? can this heal itself?
@@ThoracicRadiology Hi again, my brother had a surgery to patch his lung, but the surgent removed some blebs but couldn't find the leak to patch, so he's still in the hospital with a tube between his ribs to empty the air in his chest. The medical team are planing to remove the tube and discharge him and hope the leak in the lung will heal itself. Is this the way it's done? as it sure doesn't sound right to me. I mean the goal of the surgery was to patch a leak and they didn't yet they're calling the surgery a success.
I know that the textbooks say expiration is helpful to see the pneumothorax, but we just do regular inspiration and that seems to work fine. Yes erect if possible.
Yeah if you say complete lung atelectasis, that's the same as complete lung collapse. If you just say atelectasis without saying how much, most of the time people assume it is mild atelectasis.
My son diagnosed with rigjt lung pneumothorax yesterday. They put tube and he still at the hospital, I am really worry for his life. How much is survival rate?
It depends on if there are other problems other than the pneumothorax. If it is just a pneumothorax by itself (spontaneous pneumothorax), the prognosis is excellent
If the patient can be put upright, even very small pneumothorax can be detected on portable CXR. If the patient is supine, it is usually very difficult unless a deep sulcus sign is present. Ultrasound has proven a useful tool as well but requires an experienced operator.
Yes you can use that term in those conditions. If I am using the term atelectasis, I think it is helpful to put a descriptive term to define how much atelectasis you are seeing. For example, is it mild, subsegmental, lobar, or the entire lung? The person reading the report may not look at the images, so it is a good idea to give some idea how much atelectasis there is.
Can you tell me about the findings of my xray it says Parenchymal fibrosis vs subsegmental atelectasis left upper. Is it possible that its just a poor xray procedure or can i just repeat it? What does that mean? Coz I have yearly xray and every year my xray was perfectly normal, its just now that i got this findings. Is it serious? Im worried!
Yes I believe they could. If the pneumothorax was not a tension type then it wouldn't necessarily collapse the lung or compress the heart. Eventually the hole would heal and the air would be resorbed.

Yes you can use that term in those conditions. If I am using the term atelectasis, I think it is helpful to put a descriptive term to define how much atelectasis you are seeing. A bleb is like a small air bubble at the edge of the lung measuring up to 1 cm. I don't actually know why it's called a bleb though.
