Nigel looked great in this match considering he hasn’t wrestled in several years. As Wai and John mentioned, the crowd reaction was also impressive. Credit to AEW for reviving this rivalry and giving us an opportunity to remember ROH’s rich history. And it was all accomplished primarily by Nigel subtly promoting the match on commentary for several months. I would’ve liked to have seen Danielson and Nigel shake hands in the middle of the ring at the end of the match or at least have a few moments for us to reflect on the match. I didn’t like the Christian Cage interruption. It wasn’t perfect but the build and match were executed very well.

Whilst it was fun to me it felt like a very anti-climatic way to end a great story and rivalry. I hope that isn't the last match they have against each other.

I thought it was so lame. Predictable, 2000s style of wrestling, Nigel losing, no story coming into it. This is not how a 20 years in the making match should happen

It was a fun, creative and enjoyable match but to me personally not the way to end a great story and epic rivalry and one of my favourite rivalries and stories ever. It deserved much better than that.

Ultimately, I think it was the best they could do considering the circumstances. It was better for them to revisit their rivalry and reflect on their history than to not have another match. Nigel was given one more opportunity to get back in the ring against his rival and he delivered. It was a special moment.

@@nickt.7305 Don't get me wrong, I'm glad and grateful that it happened but it's a shame that if this is the end of their story that in kinda ended in an unnoticeable, out of the way anti-climatic feel to it.
I hope if Bryan is able to and Nigel for that matter, that they get the chance to do it one last time, maybe at Wembley in 2026 or at least at Forbidden Door next year.
If I was fantasy booking it then I'd do some kind of Nodq Iron man match which would be a lot of fun or a Nodq 2 out of 3 falls match. They have great chemistry and phycology in general but especially with each other. I would have Nigel winning either 5-4 in an Iron man match or 2-1 in a 2 out of 3 falls match so the story ends with him FINALLY getting his win over Bryan on a big stage, in a big match and proving that he was indeed at point at least as good as him, if not at certain points better.
They shake hands afterwards as a nod to both the ROH rules at the time and also to show respect for each other in general.
That is what I would have done. The build up with them cutting promos on each other and in the ring together would have been awesome. You could say for Nigel he's "Chasing the Dragon" so to speak. For Bryan it's to finally show why he became the guy over Nigel, why he was always better than him etc.
To me it makes more sense than "Oh, Bryan won again lol, unlucky Nigel" which whilst fine, doesn't really bring the story to a close.
(sorry for the wall of text lol)

Nigel was amazing here and considering where these guys are today it was great. What a showing by Nigel. And did he say "thank" because on the TSN feed they did fuzz the audio

Matches like this really embody Tony's weakness as a booker and why AEW is struggling to connect with its audience. Rather than have Bryan 1) sell the vicious attack from a few weeks ago or 2) wrestle one of his former BCC allies, we get this thrown together match (and yes I know I'm expected to google 25 year old ROH matches to learn all of the lore). Why did this match have to happen right now? People rightfully criticize Vince for prioritizing 'moments' over coherent stories and writing to an audience of 1 (himself) but this is one of the most egregious examples of that.

This match has been built towards in AEW for a long time before you even look at ROH. He’s been hating on Bryan and Nigel seized one of his final chances to go after Bryan. Bryan will do the BCC stuff next, but this was an anticipated match for the AEW crowd. To say this is just a moment when it literally has one one of the longest background builds is silly. Fans for the longest been saying Nigel needs to face Bryan with all the hating before we even knew Bryan was going to stop being full time or Nigel would be cleared to wrestle. If you personally didn’t enjoy it then that’s valid because we all have different tastes in wrestling. Criticizing the booking without acknowledging who this is for, the fans AEW has who usually watch other promotions or look it up, and knowing AEW likes to reward fans for watching wresting is my issue with your statement.
They literally set up a BCC war, so you’re getting what you want leading to WrestleDream while this match was set up to wrap up one of Bryan’s most iconic feuds.

@@spiraltriggerex Cheers for the thoughtful response. When i say this match was 'a moment' I mean Tony clearly wanted to book a dream match for Grand slam without any consideration of whether it made sense within the larger picture right now. In my opinion, it would have been MUCH better if this match happened at ALL-OUT before setting up the BCC stuff. Or how about this...
What if Bryan was too injured to wrestle tonight so Nigel instead took on one of the BCC members out of frustration since they ruined his match? Maybe Bryan and Nigel reluctantly team for a bit against BCC before finally settling the score against each other?

I don't necessarily disagree really, but I think the match had to happen now because the word is that Moxley is retiring Bryan at WrestleDream. And Bryan and Nigel both surely wanted to have this match before Bryan is done. So I think it was just kinda bad timing. They definitely did miss on a cool story for sure.

@@MRW1NKLEBryan has maybe ten matches or less left in him, it’s not kayfab his neck, it’s in horrible shape and he needs surgery. Time is running out fast, Nigel legit, deserves his last match with Bryan, and while yes it kind of came out of the blue in a weird time, but it’s clearly one of those times you find some way to get it in or it’s never going to happen. Go watch on UA-cam the last of McGinnis and you will understand how important this was for Nigel, dude has carried around serious baggage for so long over how pro wrestling screwed him. In ROH when they both got signed to wwe Nigel was considered the better of the two, bigger, and a much better talker at that point, wwe doctor screwed him bigtime, and he watched his friend live out there dreams while he worked at a grocery store!
