While I was on my first visit to Crete, a friend from Athens drove me to a pottery where the large, traditional ceramic vessels are still made. I was very interested to see the very large kiln in which the big pots were fired. The fuel that the pottery use is the crushed pits from locally grown olives, which were drawn into the kiln using a powerful blower. Kind of nerdy, I know. I make pots and ceramic sculptures myself so the museums and ceramic culture of Crete is perfect for me.
