It was such a blast watching you go through Vengeance. You really inspired me to take on the superbosses before NG+, and, as always, loved your commentaries and reactions to the game!
You seemed a bit confused about his Diaramas, but to let you know from my own testings, his Diaramas are not random, they actually replace whatever element you hit him with. So the reason he was doing it a lot at the start is cause his first attack of the sequence is physical (and you only used Physical), once he got off of that pattern he wasn't gonna do it till he reached physical on his sequence again (which with all the other drains, it wasn't very likely unless he spammed a lot of Almighty lol). Good fight Johne!
@@BlazingDiancie I saw in a comment on a different video, that he uses Freikugel as replacement for an attack you Nulled/Drained/Repelled. So lets say he uses Fire Dracostrike and you null fire. Next turn, Masakado will use Freikugel instead of Fire Dracostrike in his pattern. In fact if you notice at the beginning of this fight, he does Diarama (because Johne attacked with Phys), then Fire Dracostrike (Nahobino dodges this with Luminescent Mirage), then Ice Dracostrike (which is drained). Next turn Masakado does Diarama, Fire Dracostrike, then Freikugel instead.
@@c01onel That is correct! (at least as far as I tested myself) I actually abused this in my own fight so my tank didn't waste turns guarding the non-freikugel turns.
Hey! Why in this run Masakado didnt use his unique almighty to all attack? He uses it on me aroung 40-30% HP and spams it to the end of the fight. Thats where i cant really keep up, but here he never used it, not once!!! Is it turn based or something like that? Any idea?
@@Alexj96 Looking at KaiserKruez's video, its either HP-based, or he starts using it as his first action after gathering Magatsuhi enough times, or a combination of both. Youve basically just gotta burst him down as far as I can tell. I could be wrong, but thats what it seems like.
Considering the last time we "fought" Masakado, it was literally Flynn just trying to snap him out of a funk using his most busted demons in 10 turns, yeah I get why they wanted to make this so ridiculous. Also, there's something so satisfying about seeing Masakado cut down Demi-fiend.
Little fun fact about how damage works in SMT5 Vengeance. There's a lot of math that goes into it, but one factor is a hidden multiplier for scripted encounters that lets them deal more damage to you. This isn't as crazy as it might sound, since most of them are set to 1x (meaning no change), and only a handful of scripted encounters, mostly Abscess bosses, get a modest 1.2x multiplier. The one exception is Masakado. For whatever reason, this guy gets a ridiculous *4x* multiplier that basically _forces_ you to rely on Drain/Repel cheese. Because this battle wasn't already stupid enough, apparently.
Thank you for yet another wonderful playthrough! I just finished my 1st playthrough of SMTV Vengeance. I had no idea you can destroy Demi-fiend like that with Masakado, that was amazing, lol.
hey john. unfortunately my save got deleted since my pc blue screened and i had to re install windows so watching your videos are a nice fill instead of replaying the whole game. thanks
Looking at this video, I think Ive figured out what his Magatsuhi phases do. Masakado always attacks in a pattern through all seven elements excluding Almighty. At the starts of the fight, his pattern is as follows: Phys>Fire>Ice>Elec>Force>Light>Dark However, whenever he gathers Magatsuhi, he will shift that pattern to the left once. So after one Magatsuhi phase, his pattern is Fire>Ice>Elec>Force>Light>Dark>Phys Every time he gathers Magatsuhi, he will shift the pattern once, with him replacing his attacks with Diarama and Freikugel as applicable. (OmegaEvolution described this in his comment)
Can't wait for your Episode Aigis run. I get why you refused to do it prior despite running The Journey of P3 so many times but Reload's version looks like it will be bearable.
I have to admit that this was a fun ride, and that's coming from someone who is not that big on SMT: I absolutely love the law ending, and my personal headcanon is that Johei amd Tao got together (I don't know why I shared that) Ask for what I hope Johne plays next: please bring back like a dragon infinite wealth
Wait, debuffs activate his passive too??? No wonder bro kept doing 1k damage and Criting every hit on godborne casual, even though everyone in my team had 800 VIT 💀
Hope you too are doing well today Christopher I'm doing great, expecially after seeing how BROKEN Masakado is. I don't think theres a single Severe Almightly attack that hits all enemies (Other then Megidoloan, of course) in the game other than his special Recalcitant Execution skill.
Im surprised you never did a playthrough of Sandland. Its a pretty good anime game. Has demons, and it was made by the creator of DragonBall. I thought i wouldn't like it, but its actually pretty good.
The only problem that u had with using this strat was how low your stats were compared to masa so u ended up with turns missing figment on arioch otherwise nice vid
I when through my normal playthrough for canon of vengeance, im currently finishing my second playthrough on CoC, I started in godborn, because I wanted to face masakado in all his glory, and I did, the fight itself has no gimmick, and in all honestly, your run pretty much had perfect rng because he never when for recalcitrant execution, which would have ended the fight on that turn, I don't think your strat for masakado was cheap, it had 2 major glaring weaknesses, like I said, your run completely rely on rng, I never seen masako use freikugel that rarely, the most he used it on you was twice in a row, that's insane, the second major weakness, is that if he when once for recalcitrant execution, everybody dies, I saw konohana almost get one shooted by freikugel, if she gets hits once she's dead, which is normal imo, because to survive true masakado normal onslaught you need at least double the vitality of his attack, for my run, I decided to go the most vanilla route, I tried to slowly take fights and see a sweetspot adjusting my stats to where the fight was doable and not a slow painful shit show of me fighting him for an hour, while still retaining the bullshit factor of getting kill by freikugel repeated attacks, I had 2 approaches with this, nahobino with demi fiend essence, and my 2 main ways to work around damage, kannabi veil, which is honestly a busted ass move, and chaotic will, which is also busted as hell, just to keep it real, even using kannabi veil and chaotic will on the same turn would not secure bad rng wont kill you, it wasnt a foolproof strat, I had to work around press turns to decide which was the better option, and occasionally only using one at a time or neither, I tried to keep absords and repels out as much of the picture because the first phase he only spams dracostrikes and the occasional freikugel, which isnt so bad, only having blocks made with a few innate absords and repels make it more interesting to me, it still took me around 25 minutes to beat him, but it was worth it, it felt satisfaying and not cheesed, the other thing, is that I purposely avoided using parselene and luminacent mirage, I do think the combination of those 2 trivilizes the challenge of the fight even if done poorly, and I keep yoshimitsu for the entire fight as the main attacker with the nahobino doing murakomos with omnipotent succession and critical together when I got the chance to use them, all superbosses lose to the strategize magatsuhi strat, but hey, that's cheese for you, it works and there's nothing wrong with it, I just wanted to have a fullfiling fight, I still think satan is the most bullshit, but it also gets the most cheese if you can consistently kill all his demon allies every turn, or most of the turns, since you can force him on an endless loop of calling allies and ending his turn, with the magic of chaotic will, since satan himself only has 2 press turns, and calling allies takes 1, so if you kill all his demons, then use chaotic will, he will never move, and you just win by default.
*{Yr 2; Day 69} of been impressed by P5R and waiting for P6.* Nice 👍 2:47 I guess this means that Masakado was the only Deity that the current Creator couldn't control or withdraw his knowledge from so he sealed it instead. Can't wait for the Metaphor playthrough, considering and really hoping that it doesn't do a SMTV again. I love fighting superbosses, and I just started playing this game (I am around 12 hours in). This is my second SMT game. I beated Soul Hackers 2 not long ago, and I managed to defeat Ardha on hard. I started Cannon of Creation because I heard that you need to beat it to unlock Satan, but people already find out that is not true. I would like to beat supper bosses from easiest to hardest but also have the best first run, and now I wonder: should I start the game again on canon of vengence, get the sword needet to unlock True Masakado, beat Shiva and True Masakado on ng+ CoC, then go to ng++ CoV and beat Demi-fiend and Satan. Or stay on Cov, beat Shiva and normal Masakado, then ng+ CoV Demi and Satan, and ng++ True Masakado. I would like to know: 1. Is Canonn of Vengence much better than Cannon of Creation in terms of story, bosses, etc? Is it better to play it first? 2. With superboss is the hardest?
1. 99% of people would say Vengeance has the better story and it’s got the better story bosses imo. However, if you’re going to play both routes anyway I’d actually advise to start with the Creation route since it gives more context to the ‘mythos’ of SMT V and you’d be able to appreciate the Vengeance route more. 2. The powered up version of Masakado is the toughest ie the boss fought in this video. But you have to play Canon of Vengeance in order to unlock the stronger version in Canon of Creation, so in that case it’s better to play Canon of Vengeance first before Canon of Creation as you don,y need to do two instead of three routes. Someone can correct me on this if I’m mistaken.
@@rj_4mp100 Thank you for your response. I think that maybe I will continue CoC than. On Ng+, I will probably be around LV 80-90, so most of the story bosses will be killed in one-shot.
