    Oh brilliant! I just mentioned you yesterday over dinner and ended up having a VERY fulfilling discussion regarding the Ed Sheeran case and music law and how great your channel is. I have MISSED you, I know life gets in the way of things but please please please know that you have real fans out there and we love what you do so even once a month please try to get us something. I really hope you and yours are well♥

      This is hands down the nicest and most encouraging comment ive ever received on this channel. You're right, life does get in the way, and these videos take time to research and then produce and although the channel is monetised I only get about £60 a month in ad revenue, which just about covers Adobe subscription, Web hosting fees, podcast fees etc. I'm caught in a vicious cycle. I know this channel will do well but I need to get to about 100 videos (there's 37 right now) before I'll start earning enough to focus on it more. But I won't get to 100 videos any time soon if I don't put more time in! 😕 with that in mind I have activated super thanks and set up a merch shelf using spreadshop...so there are ways to support the channel... but honestly this message is worth 1000 tee shirt sales. This is all the "super thanks" I need. So it's a deal! You keep watching and having dinner discussions about the topics and I promise to make at least 1 new video a month! (Hopefully more but certainly no less)
      My deepest heartfelt thanks again. 😊
      Wayne.

      @@Traxploitation Dear Wayne I hope you don't mind me replying. I can well imagine how difficult it is to keep going and that sometimes it must be like shouting into an empty room wondering if anyone cares about what you do. Particularly since ElsaGate UA-cam has made a shift towards "corporate cool" which is great for us as viewers as quality content is more abundant but not so great for creators especially those who made actual videos like yourself. It's far cheaper and easier to keep going if your channel is just a mic and you in front of a camera spitting bars or spilling tea but actual content takes time to create and unless you're young and have the bank of mum and dad to support you it's going to be VERY hard to find time to make such videos. However I say again keep at it.
      I remember when Ann Reardon went down to making only one video a fortnight because she just couldn't afford to do more, she was spending more on ingredients than she was getting back in ad rev, yet one day she reviewed 5 minute crafts showing why their hacks wouldn't work and she has since blown up! When I used to watch her how to cook that channel it was like 50k subs now it's in the millions. I think it's harder for you in that this is a very specific subject but it's necessary and I think there are enough people out there who would be interested in what you do here. David Bennett Piano viewers (of which I'm a fan) and 12 tone viewers (not so much a fan but he's still good) would probably like this stuff as well as Rick Beato watchers and possibly Legal Eagle fans and Simon Whistler fans. Basically anyone into music theory, legal cases and general history. Unfortunately I am seeing lots of quality content creators struggling and UA-cam does nothing to encourage smaller channels to keep producing so there's definitely a gap in the market, you kinda need a production team (which costs money) in order to get out the content you want and channels aren't always able to keep up with the content.
      Jim Can't Swim is another case in point, that channel blew up very quickly due to the excellent analysis and information it produced but alas had problems with the alogrithm and the people behind it also didn't have the time to make the content so it's fizzled out albeit old videos remain. I wish I could offer actual help but I know how hard it is, I too want to get going on UA-cam but I realise I'm probably going to have to do it solely for the fun of it and not expect an income in any way and even that takes time, I've got footage I've shot but finding time to sort it and edit it is looooong! My only possible helpful advice is to say that yes Adobe suck, their sub model is just rude and their software has always been too damn expensive but I say look at what features you use. If you NEED the full up to date features then yeah you have to keep paying for it but if you realise you can use a older version then see if you can get one second hand, that will save you some cash. I use Filmora. It's done me a solid over the years, it was pretty cheap. That will make your 60 quid stretch a little more. Not sure what I can suggest about the other hosting stuff, I think unfortunately that's a case of it is what it is. I hope I've said something helpful.
      PS remember to ask people to like and subscribe in your videos both at the beginning and the end. It's been proven that people are more likely to do that if you ask, I know it's not really your style but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do eh? lol! Anyway I will continue to like and watch your videos, I'll be counting down to your 100.
      I know people don't respond here much but I'm glad you know that at least one person shares your passion and is grateful for all you do and also it means a lot to me that you include all genres. If you ever want to make a documentary about black people who like indie and rock, I'm your gal haha! Seriously, it's a subject I've personally wanted to explore. I think it would be interesting.

      @@TheFakeyCakeMaker Absolutely do not mind you replying. It so funny, almost all the channels you mentioned I watched a lot of, it was only Jim Can't Swim I wasn't aware of. Anyway, I am open to ALL subjects, and that kind of stereotype-defying topic is what fascinates me. I'm doing one on the Chinese people who helped build the Jamaican Reggae business, and another on the Filipino lead singer of Journey. So I'm definitely up for it!

    She was huge when I was in high school and I played that vinyl LP a lot. I was surprised she didn't go on to have a great career, she could really belt it out and was a pretty girl. Unlike the other poster, I heard "I Think We're Alone Now" on the radio here in Ontario just the other day!

      Looking back at how she started and the quick rise to fame, you do wonder why she didn't go on to have a long succesful career. From what I learned researching this, her personal life was very tumultuous. Would have made it really hard to focus on what needed to be done. At some point I'll do a full profile on her.

    i think it is interesting that her manager/guardian said she was 16 when they started touring Malls, she herself said that this happend when she was 14.
    -> even more interesting is that she performed in nightclubs before she did the malls - so she was 14 or younger when she performed in nightclubs?
    Add to that the divorce of her parents and her mom being in rehab at that time. jikes - i am sure that was all above board in the 80s but surely this would raise some eyebrows today.

      I'm from UK so had never heard of The Rubinoos. They aren't known over here at all and it seems they had very limited success in the USA. Their version of I think we're alone didn't even break the top 40...peaking at 44. I didn't mention the girls aloud version either and that made the top 10 in the UK, I didn't feel that mentioning either version would really add much to the story. • @Malconceivance
      @Malconceivance Рік тому +2

      OMG, i was going to say the same thing! Thank you, i didn't know if there was anyone else out there who knows that one.
      Lene's version has a sultriness that permeates the vocal AND the beat, and the cadence and stresses of her sex-infused vocal offer a slap in the face to the "they" who are calling her and her lover "children." The high pitched "aahhh" at the fade-out is eerie but still sexy (as well as alien-operatic),
      The James and Tiffany versions both come across as the protagonists actually BEING children (well, young teens i guess), and that's fine, but it takes a truly gifted artist (Lovich in this case) to find layers to a song that even the writers didn't perceive (and you have to do this well, otherwise you're just misinterpreting the song, of course). That's not dissing James, who made some decent music (Crystal Blue Persuasion being the best, IMHO), but he could have left this one alone and no one would have missed it (except of course, that Lene got to hear it and make it a near masterpiece).
      "Lucky Number" is another one of hers that deserves huge praise, but i've hijacked your comment space enough.

      There's probably a good story for a video in Lene Lovich. Labelling her "New Wave" doesn't seem quite right. I got into music when I was 11 in 1979 so New Wave was my growing up music. But I remember Lovich having a couple of hits and she seemed to be way more "out there" than typical New Wave acts. I thought of her as a performance artist making some kind of pop music crossover. But that's how I read it as a kid and I don't actually know anything about where she came from or where she went just that she was a one-of-a-kind phenomenon that brushed with popular culture briefly.

    I'm not much of a fan of 1980s mainstream pop, but Tiffany's version is pretty catchy for that genre, not quite as good as Belinda Carlisle's "Mad About You", but pretty good. However, it doesn't come close to the Tommy James & The Shondels original, which, with its menacing opening bass line and hypnotic tomtom and birds chirping leading into each chorus, was one of my favorite pop records of all time. I've read that the James version also featured an Ondioline, which was an early synthesizer that was first sold in 1940. I've always liked the sounds from those very early synthesizers better than most of the synth-pop cliche sounds of the 1980s. Anyway, I hope with the mob out of the way, the songwriter was able to get paid the second time around.

    • @pcno2832
      @pcno2832 Рік тому +2

      Was Parker really that bad? The last I heard, and this was from the biographies that were put together hastily after Elvis' death, Parker took a sizeable chunk of Pressley's royalties (25% or maybe even 50%), but Elvis said it was worth every penny, and at least he wasn't left with nothing, like so many artists then and now. Even the Rolling Stones were counting pennies (as described in Bill Wyman's diaries) while topping the charts all over the world. On the other hand, however fair or unfair Parker was to Elvis, he probably played a big role in getting him signed to RCA, where he got a lot more exposure, but lost some of the raw spontaneity of his Sun recordings. That might have been the price of superstardom.

    • @newwavepop
      @newwavepop Рік тому

      i have probably forgotten more than i remember as i havent really looked into it all in a very long time. Parker possibly made Elvis more wealth than he would have been, but i am pretty certain he would have been happier and healthier without Parker. Elbis wanted to be an actor and make REAL movie and he did not want to sing in them he wanted to just be an actor. but Parker wouldnt et any of the studios use Elvis unless he had songs featured in the film and performed them thus you famously have all these goofy bad Elvis films and no real serious roles which is one of the many things that tarnishes his legacy to people that dnt like him. Parker intercepted anyone that wanted to work with Elvis and had Elvis doing all the goofy pop music and while Elvis would always freely admit that he had never written a song in his life Parker would force writers to gice Elvis a writing credit if they wanted Elvis to sing their song, which is one more thing that tarnishes Elvis legacy and that people who dont like him look down on his legacy for when he really had nothing to do with it other than never stand up to Parker. Parker wouldnt et anyone near Elvis without his approval which led to Elvis becoming the first real shut in celebrity that lost touch with the real world and was surrounded with yes men which led to him seeming sort of strange and further tarnishing his legacy as well as having no real friends or at least making his friendships questionable as hey were all employed by Parker. even when he did his famous comeback special he had to basically beg Parker to let him have his old friend and guitarist Scotty be there so that it would feel like the old days for Elvis. he just controlled every facet of Elvis's life which i believe led to Elvis not actually being very happy and he spends his last several years doing the routine Las Vegas residency which has a kind of melancholy around it and also tarnishes his legacy. and he starts doing who knows what kind of drugs and medications to deal with whatever depression he is going through because he is always locked up until its show time and that led to his famous weird puffy looking weight gain which is one more thing that people that dont like Elvis just make fun of and tarnishes his legacy. i just genuinely believe if Elvis hadnt fallen under Parkers spell he would have lived a longer and happier life and would have accomplished more of his own personal goals, would he have been as successful and made as much money? i really dont know but i believe he would have been happier and i believe his legacy would be far more respected today as it should be.

      Aside from the sheer craziness of going number 1 around the world as a young teenager with no adequate parental supervisor. She divorced her parents and dealt with a lot on her own. I didn't want to get into those details here as this video was about the song more than Tiffany but I will circle back as its an interesting story.

      The title of the video is "the story of tiffanys I think we're alone now, signature songs that are actually covers" the video is about the song, "i think we're alone now" not the artists that sang it. This is also explained in the description.
      It's about a song sung by 2 different artists (actually 4 or more but 2 very famous versions), so naturally, roughly half the time will be spent on each of the 2 main artists, and a little mention of the other 2 well-known versions.. As is the case here. Tiffany is in about half the video, but it's not a video about Tiffany, and I didn't "advertise" it any other way.
