Some insurance companies foretold this kind of disaster and had pulled out of California. Yet somehow the elected officials didn't prepare. Everyone in CA will likely end up paying much higher insurance rates. You can not get a mortgage without insurance.
I guess the insurance companies were smart. Why should you or would you insure homes in a business model that incurs a 100% loss? Maybe CA should get its ShXt together and promote an environment where the environmental hazards like brush, access to water and availability as well as looting are minimal. Then more companies will want to insure there.
Most insurance companies are nationwide, we will ALL be feeling the increase since the costs of this will be passed on to the rest of the insured of other states in some way shape or form.

Not trying to be heartless, but this is not new. So many fires in Nor Cal, with 10,000 homes in Paradise, CA. It happens and California knew this could happen. I've lived this, and can remember the Bel-Air fire of 1961. The homes needed protection more than the hillsides needed grooming. There are new devices for eaves and vents that prevent embers from entering inside the dwelling. Most of these ranch style houses in the Palisades would not have burned if methods like that were used. We knew this was going to burn someday.

Unfortunately, a lot of families, especially in Phoenix, Arizona where I live can relate to what you've been through. The unfortunate event was not a wildfire. It was wild rent. I may sound crass, but hear me out. I can sympathize because I know how it feels to be run out of your affluent community after you've worked so hard for so many years - being in my 50s having a six figure income and having people from California and New York come to my little tiny village in the suburbs of Phoenix and literally run us out of our communities - into neighborhoods where we were surrounded by gangs and crime - my car was stolen, my 60-year-old neighbor got beat up by a criminal stealing our mail. This story that this woman is telling is happening all over the country and it's not because of a fire. This is why so many people say mean things about the celebrities and "rich people"!! Nobody cared about us in what used to be our community. Nobody ever even heard about it. It never made the news. Nobody gave us donations of clothing or food or kind words or anything. We got not 1 ounce of sympathy from anyone - we were told if you can't pay these 400% increases your family has to go and your kids don't get to go to the same school with their friends anymore because it's only for the people in the neighborhood which was bought out by strangers ! When you have to leave your four bedroom two-story beautiful home for a one bedroom dump in the middle of the ghetto you can't take your heirlooms. You can't take anything you are withered down to the bare minimum and literally sleeping on a couch or now a mattress on the floor, which is still what I do now so my daughter can have a nice bed off the floor. I think it's time the American people come together and start to talk about these things and realize the government is doing this to us. None of this in my opinion is an accident. And as much as I would love to help my fellow Americans suffering from natural disasters , I'm out here with MANY OTHER FAMILIES simply trying to Pick up our lives that were torn apart, and survive with a six figure income which isn't shit anymore as a single mother. And believe me I'm one of the lucky ones. At least I didn't have to go to a shelter and I was able to keep my daughter with a roof over her head. So please remember - it doesn't just have to be a wildfire that steals your life and leaves you with nothing. Corporate greed takes lives too. I will pray for the people who lost everything and I will say coming back up is a hell of a slow climb that I would not wish on any other human being 😢 it's been about four or five years and I choose to live well below my means now so I can use any extra money I do have to help other people in my family and community and I think that is the lesson that I was supposed to learn. I made it back to our "affluent" neighborhood and unfortunately nothing is the same. The entire fabric of the community has changed. Our neighborhood is filled with teen violence and homelessness. It is unrecognizable. And after all this time, I find myself every day struggling to make a decision. Where do I go next? Where is it safe? Where can I try to lay down roots and not get ripped up? Should I even try to lay down roots at all? I don't mean to make this about myself. I know there are a lot of people who are struggling. I just think it's time to turn the conversation on to what's happening in this country to all classes of people and maybe we can come together and make changes that will benefit everyone.
thnk you for sharing - What has happened to our government and public safety - Greed Power and Evil - that is what happened - Speak out let others know God Bless you
Thank you Laura. I'm very sorry for what your going thru. Everything you said is absolutely correct. We have to start holding our public officials accountable.
I don't think people fully understand what this is like. These people didn't know this was coming. They were given in some cases, 20 mins evacuation order to grab everything and anything they could and try and survive. Everyone evacuated at the same time, the roads became completely bogged down, people had to evacuate their vehicles and run for their lives. The national guard had to come in with bull dozers and clear the streets to even reach the fire. This could end up being the most devastating residential fire disaster in the entire state's history

I'll bet not many, I don't feel a bit sorry for the GREEDY Sometime back I heard a prophecy someone said they received about the rich being brought down to the same level as the poor, and now I'm starting to see HOW it's being done
The working class and most middle class people have been priced out of the West side of LA. Greetings from 🇧🇷 Brazil
Thank you for your concern and love from Brazil!

@@truther001nope. 3% commission on $2 million dollar home = $60K. Your broker then takes about twenty percent of that, which is twelve thousand dollars. The IRS takes another thirty percent!
Not trying to be heartless, but this is not new. So many fires in Nor Cal, with 10,000 homes in Paradise, CA. It happens and California knew this could happen. That many people packed into an area, with homes built in the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s with little to no upgrade or fire hardening. Many of which bordered unmanaged California forests and woodlands. It was something that could have been prevented.

There are no words.😢😢😢
Such sweet, sincere and gentle soul.
Ill prepared maybe, but far from ill informed. The issue of wildfire concern in CA is a concern every year. They were just not prepared, but they knew wildfire and a dry climate is an annual concern.

Supply and demand issues. Yes, it will cause housing to go even higher. Insurance costs too, if people can even get it at all.
Relocating to the southern midwest is an option like Alabama you can afford to live there better
The working class and most middle class people have been priced out of the West side of LA. Now the wealthy will be taking other parts of LA for themselves until they can rebuild from this fire…then I suppose they’ll move back to their exclusive neighborhoods while sucking some renter dry in the other place. The American way.
Not very likely as these people are so rich that they probably all have 2 or 3 home around the country.
