In the 1960s I used my Roberts 770x (Akai name in America) reel to reel for recording and playing my Teisco guitar and vocals. It was also my stereo amp. Thank you for the memories and being one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Keep it going!
The intro demo song is incredible man it's like no doubts version of it's my life and incubus filling in as the band when you move to that next section
I use plugins for tape saturation but that's not nearly as much fun. I love the JPTR vibe, I used to have a wild fuzz but couldn't tame it. Great analysis.
Thanks. I’m getting the hang of EZDrummer. It’s a bit more work than the built in Logic drummers, but they have much better flow between parts and dynamics that make the songs feel more like actual songs.
I've had mine for a while. I use it in front of a dirty amp, in front of a tube screamer like pedal or my favorite as a clean boost. It mostly stays on my board.
I have that Voodoo chorus. It might have been the first pedal I ever acquired. It was so noisy I couldn't take it any more. Your backing tracks are great.
I love my Catalinbread Dreamcoat which is "a near-exact recreation of the preamp circuit from the Aiwa TP-1011 reel-to-reel deck" used by Ritchie Blackmore in the 70s... it goes from light overdrive to spitty fuzz, it is an awesome pedal, you should check it out
Oh man, I've been humming and hawing over one of these this week but opted for a Visual Sound Double Trouble instead. After watching this I may need to get the JPTR Jive too...
Visual Sound stuff is so good. I feel like people never give their pedals the credit they're due. If you decide to pick up a Jive, I know you'll enjoy that too.
Sounds rad I've had to cut down on my pedal buying lately so I can upgrade my amp to a reissue fender 65 twin reverb but I'll be buying stuff again soon check out boulevard effects there looking for UA-cam demos I'm sure they'll send you there whole line free there stupid cheap right now
I like the "fur" on the bottom switch, warm and musical. All the settings are nice. Did you explore the sounds using just the two knobs and the switches turned off?
Great analysis. The SHO thing really annoys me as it’s yet another example of people just parroting something they have heard without any real understanding. Guitarists are particularly bad for this stuff. Chris has never said it was “based on” anything. He said it was inspired by the tape preamp, and it does give that wooly and fizzy saturation that pretty much any simple pre-amp will when pushed, whether channel strip, tape driver, mic pre… whatever. Your visual of the clipping was very informative. I personally love my Jive. Now, thanks to your video, i also understand it a bit better too.
Rumor is much more interesting! Yeah, I really hate the term “based on” because there’s no way to prove it true or false. It’s just a really fun pedal.
@@StompboxBreakdown "Inspired by the iconic Akai GX 210D reel-to-reel tape machine from the 1970s" We use the bs170 transistor :) and made it sound like my akai If i would be able to put a Akai preamp in a 125B enclosure 1 to 1 i wondt make pedals i would make spacerockets :)

Shit cuz, you must be like 100 now.
the JPTR has this thing about it. I love this because of the sneaky boost sound it gives my tone. Such a secret weapon. Great Video!
Thanks for the explanation and super awesome demo. I purchased this pedal because of what I heard in your demo. Thank You. 👊🏾 👊🏾👊🏾

Hahahah oh WOW I love that compliment! And agreed, that transition is one of the tastiest things I've ever cooked up.

Thank you! What plugins do you use? I really enjoy Decapitator, and SSL Fusion Vintage Drive, but I'm always looking for more software-based options.
Thank you for the review :)
The drums in the intro song had great crunch too

Thank you! I didn’t notice any hiss from my voodoo chorus, aside from normal single coil / dirt pedal stuff, I wonder if it needs a recapping?
great company. One of the first companies to offer a "brick" power supply, mini Univibe circuit or octave fuzz in the modern market.

Man I've an actual tape player that's similar to what your describing, not a reel to reel one tho it's a boombox I stick an input jack on lol

So if the bottom switch is activated, the effect of the top and middle switches is more subtle?

Yup, the first clip where I went from clean to saturated (where my cat came through) I had all of the switches off. It really is a versatile box.
Cool man, I'll watch it again. Dig the cat. What's his or her name?@@StompboxBreakdown

That gold guitar us ugly, I love it!
It really is. It plays like a shovel, too.
Great analysis.
