Been playing guitar since right when this album came out. It spurred me on so much that I just had to try and learn as many of the riffs as possible. The toughest to master, in my opinion, is the riff behind the solo of ‘Frayed ends of sanity’, same album.
If you are interested in achieving such a big and heavy guitar sound as Metallica had on this album, then the key to this is Mesa/Boogie amps (They used Mesa/Boogie MarkIIC+, but you can achieve a similar result with guitar processors, even software, where there is a simulation of Mesa/Boogie Mark amplifiers. The Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier is also good) and another important element is the active EMG pickups - 81 in the bridge and 60 or 85 in the neck.
Try and find yourself a mesa 50cal+ or a mesa mark iii blue stripe amp. Then get some v30 speakers and a 10 band eq and run that in the effects loop. You’ll be 90% there for the tone. Cut all the mids! Btw the song is about the aftermath of nuclear war. ua-cam.com/video/8ZftxFjcG-8/v-deo.htmlsi=D1hiBTH5AT1XlYYR Here’s my amp.
Metallica was and still is my biggest influence to playing guitar. Can I play like Hetfield or Hammett? Heck no but it has allowed me to adapt my own style of playing
You're a beginner guitarist. Be patient. It will come. Perhaps you are aware of this, but sometimes learning guitar can be a struggle. It will come. And I expect videos when it does. 😂🤘 And if you like Metallica, you should get into a band directly inspired by them named "Orbit Culture". You won't regret it.
this song is very hard to play even for a intermediate guitarist i’ve been told but i like to atleast try to get easy parts of the song just to say i can play parts of it. thanks for the support and the suggestion swede 👍🏻
Metallica is a great band to begin to learn on guitar, just keep practicing your down picking and you will get faster. Master of Puppets and Justice are expert levels of guitar work.
First music i ear them live in a concert . imagine being inside a jet engine in the end i was so far were i start. First album after Cliff death and the lack of bass is very clear . And probably the last great album as after this no more trash and speed
I like the idealism. It's not wrong. Gilmore may be a better feel and writing. But, I don't think anything can be compared to thrash/metal as far as difficulty.
I have butchered this song a million times, i love it but it is an exhausting pain in the ass🤘🤣🤘 James is a downpicking God 🤘 Kirk is the Grandmaster of Wah Jason was criminally underated and underutilized Lars ...... Meh 😂
one of the best openings to an album in hstory!
it’s great
I've been playing for years and i like to think of myself as pretty good, and i still think this song is a pain in the ass.
yea it’s definitely not beginner friendly 😂
& I thought it was just me lol
@@troy8979 nope not at all. This and fight fire with fire. I can play dyers eve and battery no problem, but blackened.
You need to do the live 1989 Seattle concert version of this song it’s even faster
8:27 how the heck did you hear the bass???
@@HoradelJuegoV2 maybe not heard but felt…
This is just one of their many masterpieces... enjoy your journey... Metallica FAN4LIFE🤘🏽😎
thanks
Lars fucking with the timing at 7:14 is so cool. My friend used to swear they were playing the riff backwards there but nope it's just Lars. 😂
This is my favorite album of metallica. My favorite song the shortest straw. The heaviest riff song of the album.

i’ll check it out 👍🏻

"Solo was okay." Give the song a couple more listens and see if your opinion changes.

Yep, an apocalypse song, more accurately a song about nuclear warfare (mutually assured destruction) causing complete global death.

Play slow. Dont force It. Slow is fast in a 5 years.
Get a guitar stand. Never disrespect the instrument
i have wall hangers i just move one of them over so i can put it in the background

Don’t go crazy learning fast guitar solos or riffs, listen to Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, now THAT is guitar playing.
i’ll check them out thanks
@@RQG-YT Great! You can start with *Comfortably Numb* and *On The Turning Away*
