Rain on the Graves is yet another beautiful example of Bruce Dickinson being a phenomenal story teller. The nuance, the story, the music, every bit of it was theatrical and I can’t get that chorus out of my head. The music video was amazing and I love how it really made me ponder the story in the video. Amazing stuff. I’m more anxious to hear The Mandrake Project
When I first heard Rain On The Graves, the guitar work and build into the chorus gave me a Bloody Hammers vibe, at least musically. After a few more listens though, it did settle into my mind as a Bruce song through and through. Absolutely love it.
One thing about Bruce, he knows how to write a chorus that will stick in your head even after just one or two listens. He knows how to write a great chorus, this song is no different. This tune isn’t quite what I expected but I still dig it…
I think the problem with all the teasing of the Mandrake Project, and us all being such big fans of BD and Maiden is . We’re expecting the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so we all feel slightly disappointed at first , a bit like opening a Christmas present as a child and it being what you hoped for , but I have total confidence that this will be a masterpiece, in my opinion he should just have give us the full album in one go on the day of release, you know how band used to do not throwing us teasers like throwing chickens in a pond piranhas for us to fight over the bait lol 😂 sorry for getting a bit deep , keep rocking guys and girls 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Very well put together, man. I agree, they are having fun. Roy Z’s opening Riff obviously had me hooked and it was going to take a lot to turn me off from the song after hearing that. Tanya O’Callaghan.. what a talented and beautiful musician. You could tell the whole band was really into the characters. Hoping to catch them live if/when they come to the US and I do hope that you and other Ukrainians are able to see this tour as well. As for that chorus… it has been living rent-free in my head the last two days. Love all of it! *Crossing fingers Adrian joins this awesome band on tour.*
I love the song and video. Bruce is really showing his versatility. Awesome vocals and visuals with nods to Blake and hammer horror. Theatre of the mind in full effect. I also felt that Bruce subtly tapped into his Deep Purple influence
Love Afterglow so much it took me a couple of listens to really get into it , now i cant stop and this one is going the same way genuinely cant wait till new album .
I feel that no song of this album will be able to stand on its own in a sense that they will all work together better listening to one after another as a whole. Having said that , i am not really excited overall from both singles and still think that Bruce;s Magnus Opus will forever be Chemical Wedding. This song reminds me a bit of Devil on a Hog actually as it has this hard rock feel to it.Anywayz as i said we will have to wait and listen to the whole album to fully grasp it and appreciate it.
I agree with everything you said! The video and music are reminiscent of horror films from the past and everyone is having fun! I'm looking forward to seeing the concert in Sao Paulo Brazil on May 4th
Wasnt sure about the organs/keys at first, but i love it, and i really look forward to what Mistheria adds to the album. The keys were a bit sundued on ragnarok, but i love the tone it adds to rain on the graves. Sounds a touch (just a little) like Ghost on the track.
You didn't notice the Deep Purple vibe here? Immediately after hearing this, I had to watch Purple's Vincent Price music video. And lately Bruce has also played some Purple covers on his gigs anyway.
The song is an absolute banger! It took me a bit to get used to it but it's strangely kinda badass song. Most importantly - it made even more excited for the album and the tour, which I'll see in Bulgaria! 🤘🤘🤘
thats a good point u made....it is very diffeernt from maiden, probably as differnt as his first two albums were from maiden. Accident of birth, chem weddign and tyranny are bit more similar but heavier
I dig this channel! Very insightful commentary, as usual. I can't wait to finally see Bruce & Roy live, as there was a major blizzard that kept me home the last time they played in my home state of Connecticut. I hope our humble host gets the chance, too! Up the Irons, Metal Forever and, most importantly, Slava Ukraine!! 🤘🏼
this song coming out today honestly was not expected, as I didn't know about it, but damn, it gives me the feel of a funny song, as in "Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger", and I love it
I hear a nod to The Devil Went Down In Georgia in the verse with the 4 on the floor thump. Is it Limerick? At lest a little bit of USA Southern twang came directly from the Scots and Irish. I dig this little ensemble. Indeed, Bruce as Leo of Iron Maiden is something of a caged lion what with the narrow channel of options available in the Steve Harris Empire's curiosity cabinet. To me Maiden has just been recycling and remixing their 5 or 6 color palate, where just adding theater to the mix beyond a dancing and stage engulfing Eddie plus allowing the dark Blues to cut the gallop out for a little while, walking speed allows different details to emerge than always feeling like you're on a horse and then you've got at least 12 colors, and a whole wheel of tones and feels to explore. I dig it. I also see a lot of Terry Gilliam and Monty Python influence in this. Excellent stuff.
I like it, I look forward to see him and the band later this year at Copenhell. I think you should mention the obvious tip of the hat to Jon Lord. The keyboard parts are very Deep Purple. (Love BD’s performance of Perfect Strangers, btw). Anyways, thanks for putting all the effort in these UA-cam videos! 🤘🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Hi man. I cant agree more with you about your perception of the video, music and bruce intention. I also belive something changed in bruce mentality after his illness. If you see the interviews or the promotion you can feel he is more funny and "down to earth". And i feel happy to see bruce happy and not taking himself so serious. As i saw in a comment he deserves a oscar!! I dont expect another chemical wedding but for sure i will enjoy the album. ....i like afterglow video hehehe. Take care stay safe. Congrats. BR.
Bruce and accept will open for judas priest in greece this summer. I can't imagine a better lineup than that. They will all have released new albums by then and one is better than the other. Not the first time i see priest or accept or bruce (with iron maiden, but first time solo) and i am really thinking about it every day
I am looking forward to the album coming out in March. So far it's reminding me of The Chemical Wedding album, which I enjoy more than many Iron Maiden albums.
Dude, I was THIS close to ask UA-cam to stop showing me videos from you without even watching the video first. Please, your content is pretty good, so you don't need the click bait, stop doing it. Every time I see this kind of thumbnail or title, I block the channels or in the best case scenario (like this one) I watch the video in a private window first. I don't like haters in my youtube
As a doom fan i dig the intro riff. I really love how it not Maiden 2.0. Even the musicians are neither maiden rip offs. :) Btw is it not more the universal horror movies from the 30s and 40s that the video resemble, rather than the Hammers? :)
for festival sets, it will be 2- songs from the new album (whatever singles they release), plus the singles from his roy z solo output (tower, chemical wedding, accident of birth, maybe road to hell, abduction, tears of the dragon). headline sets, those tracks plus one or 2 more from the new record and one or 2 more from tyranny. jerusalem will 100% be in the sets (he's been playing it for those orchestral shows with tanya, so no brainer). fingers crossed for cyclops!!!
Great review man! I love the song, I think I prefer it to AoRR. Funny thing, did anyone notice that the colour scheme for the stage is very similar to the Dance of Death Maiden album cover?? Keep up the good work as always and Slava Ukraini! Robin
Disappointed? A little. I don't expect every Bruce/Roy Z collaboration to be an instant classic, but the best I can say of Rain and Afterglow is that they are OK. Or alright, or not bad. There is little sign of the old magic.
I like the song and love the video, but am hoping this is one of the more average tracks on the record. I am hoping for material like The Book of Thel, Darkside of the Aquarius, etc. I love when his solo stuff has a lot of dramatic changes. I saw him 2Xs on Accident of Birth, but now live in an area of America where he will most likely not play. So, not sure I will see him this time.
It's funny, but I think Steve Harris having a side band British Lion and Adrian Smith collaborating with Ritchie Kotzen has freed Bruce to just go nuts with his own side project. I always felt that his earlier solo albums were done as a sort of "up yours" to his former band, while Mandrake may just be Bruce feeling comfortable with doing his own material on his own terms. Love both singles! They are different, but they are both fun listens.
Love this Song, and Afterglow. Original and Brilliant. I bet people would hate on Mozart or Paganini if they were composing today. Sorry it ain't Taylor Swift 😂
The fact is many find the song not to be original or brillant but simply bland and repetitive. I actually found the video more interesting than the music, as a long term Bruce fan. And please don't compare apple and oranges.
(non-serious).... I like how Bruce sells his soul for one night only... but, as in one of the Shrek movies, what if the devil declares that "one night" to be the one where Bruce was conceived? 😂 Anyway - fun song. As with the last, I prefer the song to the video.
I live the songs but not so thrilled with the videos. Bruce once described the “theater of the mind” that he always tried to invoke through his music. I like to listen and let my mind run free there is plenty to find in there.
Do you plan to see Bruce Dickinson live this year? If so, where?
hoping for wolverhampton uk
YES @ METAL PARK (ITALY), with Stratovarius, The Darkness, Michael Monroe & Ritchie Kotzen on July, 6.
Got tickets for Manchester
Brasilia, Brazil!
I hope he comes to Dallas.
Rain on the Graves is yet another beautiful example of Bruce Dickinson being a phenomenal story teller. When I first heard Rain On The Graves, the guitar work and build into the chorus gave me a Bloody Hammers vibe, at least musically. After a few more listens though, it did settle into my mind as a Bruce song through and through. Absolutely love it.
Bruce has hit his "I'm an old man and I don't have to give a f***" stage. He's having a ball with it, and that's great.
No disappointment here! Awesome video and Bruce is a master writer and vocalist...Noone comes close. 🤘
One thing about Bruce, he knows how to write a chorus that will stick in your head even after just one or two listens. He knows how to write a great chorus, this song is no different. This tune isn’t quite what I expected but I still dig it…
It's nothing like I expected and it's absolutely incredible! I love the hilarious video and the song itself is killer. Very catchy!
Great story, great style, great music, great video, great vocals and the greatest of all: the surprise.
Everything about the song is magic. I’m excited for what else is coming.
This song is absolutely brilliant & a breath of fresh air in heavy 🤘metal 24. Stay safe brother & Slava Ukraine 🙏💪
I like this video very much. You can see how much fun he had and let us fans share in it. I'm excited about The Mandrake Project tour and the album.
Very well put together, man. I agree, they are having fun. Roy Z’s opening Riff obviously had me hooked and it was going to take a lot to turn me off from the song after hearing that. *Crossing fingers Adrian joins this awesome band on tour.*
Enjoy your content! Bruce is awesome. Hope you and you’re family and friends are safe dispite of the war, take care, we pray for peace.
I love the song and video. Bruce is really showing his versatility. Awesome vocals and visuals with nods to Blake and hammer horror. Theatre of the mind in full effect. I also felt that Bruce subtly tapped into his Deep Purple influence
I dig it..Bruce playing a scared priest or whatnot, The Hell Band, dude waves his hand as he plays the organ,Mad Hatter Gothic Beauty!👍😁✌️🤘🍻
Yes, we're off to Swansea ... can't wait!! Was hoping Adrian Smith would be along for the ride but still expecting an amazing night
Love Afterglow so much it took me a couple of listens to really get into it , now i cant stop and this one is going the same way genuinely cant wait till new album .
Bruce absolutely never disappoints! Love it ! ❤️🤟
The musical vibe I got from this was along the same lines as Confeos from Chemical Wedding. The same odd time signatures. I love it!!!
I agree with everything you said! The video and music are reminiscent of horror films from the past and everyone is having fun! I'm looking forward to seeing the concert in Sao Paulo Brazil on May 4th
Man but I LOVE this song! Much better than Afterglow!
I like it too! I am just saying that it works perfect specifically as a soundtrack to this video!
Wasnt sure about the organs/keys at first, but i love it, and i really look forward to what Mistheria adds to the album. The keys were a bit sundued on ragnarok, but i love the tone it adds to rain on the graves. Sounds a touch (just a little) like Ghost on the track.
I thought of Ghost as well upon hearing this…
The man is a universal treasure.
I fell in love with this vid the moment i watched it. It's fresh, fun, and fascinating.
You didn't notice the Deep Purple vibe here? Immediately after hearing this, I had to watch Purple's Vincent Price music video.
And lately Bruce has also played some Purple covers on his gigs anyway.
Same here.
The vocal melody sounds like something Ian Gillan could have come up with.
And the whole song gives me "Born Again" vibes.
The song is an absolute banger! It took me a bit to get used to it but it's strangely kinda badass song. Most importantly - it made even more excited for the album and the tour, which I'll see in Bulgaria! 🤘🤘🤘
Better than I expected actually, looking forward to this album. 🤘
thats a good point u made....it is very diffeernt from maiden, probably as differnt as his first two albums were from maiden. Accident of birth, chem weddign and tyranny are bit more similar but heavier
Roy Z's solo sounds a lot like something Adrian could have written.
Yes ,thats true
I dig this channel! Very insightful commentary, as usual. I can't wait to finally see Bruce & Roy live, as there was a major blizzard that kept me home the last time they played in my home state of Connecticut. I hope our humble host gets the chance, too! this song coming out today honestly was not expected, as I didn't know about it, but damn, it gives me the feel of a funny song, as in "Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger", and I love it
I want Bruce to do an hour long uncensored Halloween special just like this.
I dig it. I also see a lot of Terry Gilliam and Monty Python influence in this. Excellent stuff.
Excellent observations and comment! 🤘🏼
I've already listened to the full album and ppl, you will NOT be disappointed! ❤
I loved the song... Yes it's quite "out of the box" even for B.D. but that is what makes ir awesome.
Killer song from a genius, maniac, pilot, singer, actor, he's not human.
You forgot self-made CEO, fencing champ and best-selling author! I may have forgotten a few, too. A modern Renaissance man, to be sure!
It's incredible. Can't wait for the END product. Love the colab of musos. Old school rulz!❤
Seeing iron maiden live this year
i like his british theatre vocals in the verse.... great!
Hi man. I cant agree more with you about your perception of the video, music and bruce intention. I also belive something changed in bruce mentality after his illness. Great song! Greatings from Serbia!

I just listened and watch the video. I thought it was excellent!
I am looking forward to the album coming out in March. So far it's reminding me of The Chemical Wedding album, which I enjoy more than many Iron Maiden albums.
It took me a few listens to start enjoying this song. Now I'm addicted to the chorus.
PS: it also has an Opeth vibe from their last album
Love him. Respect him.
Great song as previous one. I love the video too! 8/10❤
I loved it as well ! Bruce turns everything he touches into gold
Dude, I was THIS close to ask UA-cam to stop showing me videos from you without even watching the video first. Please, your content is pretty good, so you don't need the click bait, stop doing it. Rain On The Graves is a great song! Fantastic stuff!
It absolutely is not.
It also has that good feeling of going back to the 90's video clip style. 👍👍
100 percent agree with everything you said. Definitely better when you watch the video.
Brilliant song. 2 out 2 for me so far. Can't wait for the full album to come out 🤘🔥🤘
❤❤
The chorus reminds me of ,,if eternaty schould fail..bat very good and refreshing
Mix of magic,mystic and religion.This i love
As a doom fan i dig the intro riff. I really love how it not Maiden 2.0. Even the musicians are neither maiden rip offs. :)
Btw is it not more the universal horror movies from the 30s and 40s that the video resemble, rather than the Hammers? :)
Everything I expected from Bruce-PERFECTION!!!
I LOVED this track. I also loved his previous track Afterglow of Ragnarok
loved the video and the song
I will see Bruce in Rio de Janeiro in April.
finaly he got out of the iron maiden image cage , good for him cuz he always had something to say gogogo old brucie
More mature than ever. Absolutely killer.
Its 10/10 all the way...Great Video with a great Song!
Oh come off it!
Just plane fun!! That man continues to do his thing and, dam, what fun it is. Keep on rocken Bruce 😎
song was saved by the mid section and chorus, cant say much about the rest
I loved it! On the contrary I’m not a fan of Afterglow of Ragnarok, but this new clip raised the bar
Yes.
Great song! Gonna be a great album!
🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🙏 🙏 🙏
Can't wait to hear the rest of the album and hope the tour comes to the NW USA, so I can go see Bruce live 🤞
Loved both singles
Brilliant song, really looking forward to the album
I like it, ... I've been to over 15 Iron Maiden shows, first one in like 84 or so,,, just sayin,, 😊
for festival sets, it will be 2- songs from the new album (whatever singles they release), plus the singles from his roy z solo output (tower, chemical wedding, accident of birth, maybe road to hell, abduction, tears of the dragon). headline sets, those tracks plus one or 2 more from the new record and one or 2 more from tyranny. jerusalem will 100% be in the sets (he's been playing it for those orchestral shows with tanya, so no brainer). fingers crossed for cyclops!!!
I love it.❤
A spiritual successor to Accident of Birth, is how its sounding thus far. 👌 More please
Better voice than in years.
But who's playing the other guitar, and who's going to play it live?!
Great review again and much respect to yourself for doing what you're doing under impossible conditions. Ukraine should be proud of you!
I love the song! Haven’t seen the video yet but the song is sooooo f*ckin catchy! The solo is outstanding too👑
heroyiam slava! and glory to you
It’s a great song. Has a devil went down to Georgia vibe.
Great review man! I love the song, I think I prefer it to AoRR. Funny thing, did anyone notice that the colour scheme for the stage is very similar to the Dance of Death Maiden album cover?? Keep up the good work as always and Slava Ukraini! Robin
Better than the other one, for sure. But still, Bruce is much better with Maiden for me.

Loved this song, some deep purple vibes.
Absolutely "gillan-ish" vibes, or rather "Born Again" vibes.

Love both singles! They are different, but they are both fun listens.
i love it, like it way better than ragnarok one.
I like the video, the story and the music. Typical Bruce Dickinson. Great work, absolutely nothing to complain
More exciting than anything Maiden have done in 20 years
I like it , it’s quite Alice Cooperesq in my opinion.
I like it very dramatical, musical like, but good groove and all.
(non-serious).... I like how Bruce sells his soul for one night only... but, as in one of the Shrek movies, what if the devil declares that "one night" to be the one where Bruce was conceived? 😂
Anyway - fun song. As with the last, I prefer the song to the video.
I'm more a fan or the darker stuff like Afterglow, but its still good.
I thought its a solid peice but relied heavily on easy listening guitar work
And a ripetitive chorus.
I live the songs but not so thrilled with the videos. Bruce once described the “theater of the mind” that he always tried to invoke through his music. I like to listen and let my mind run free there is plenty to find in there.
