  • As a reloader, you’ve got your finished round, and it doesn’t want to cam over and your bolt is really hard to close. Why would this be? In this Guns & Gear Bonus Tip, Kevin “KJ” Jarnagin visits with Kent Sakamoto of Hodgdon Powder Company to determine the answer to this question, and more.

    Couple things..
    New doesn't mean right.
You started saying you set die and sized case and checked chambering in rifle. Everything was fine.
Well then it is not crimp causing your issue as nothing about powder charge or bullet seat that will
Lengthening that case to create contact.
Only difference that could is bullet or neck contact.
Your neck will slightly expand with a seated bullet. A properly cut chamber will allow for this. But this is where my first comment comes into play. New isnt always right and chambers can be cut wrong. They that "short" or with worn reamer or simply poorly done.
Now other is OAL that you covered well but dont mention biggest thing.
A manual was ONLY what was safe in that authors firearm at the time he tested in a assumed properly cut and specked chamber.
Checking chamber dimension's is what you should have spoken about. As its only proper tell when you have followed proper procedure's and you still have hard bolt close...
