- Cary Rivard, Extension Specialist, Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources at Kansas State University explains no-till practices for vegetable production systems. He explains the advantages of how this system improves soil health and weed suppression, which results in healthier plants for a more productive vegetable crop. He also discusses some of the challenges and how to overcome them. Funding for this video is provided by the NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant Program.
I have tried various experiments in an organic system using everything imaginable other than a roller/crimper and have had very little success. It seems to me a roller/crimper and some kind of seed drill are essential. Terminating cover with a bush hog and ripping a planting furrow into it just hasn't worked on my farm. This year I'm going to do some extensive experiments using winter kill cover that I leave standing until planting time. Good video.
