I've got 50hrs flying Cessna 150s in the Rocky Mountains. Lots of fun. Particularly enjoyed the looks on people's faces when they saw me, thinking I was going to crash due to the High DA.
@@MOTOBLADE I've taken my current 100hp cessna 150 to 8000ft so far without any issue, haven't gone higher yet, but still had good climb performance. Have 50hrs on that one (100 total hours in 150s now). I lean religiously due to my mountain flying experience, and get and average 4.25 gph in my 100hp Cessna 150 (4.4hrs flight with reserve). But full disclosure, the ones I flew in the mountains were 150hp, climb props (cruise was 90kts), LE extensions, gap seals, wingtips, wing fences and extra fuel tank. They look normal from a distance, and so people thought they were stock 100hp. But most of my experience is flying high DA in the mountains in light aircraft (field elevations of 5000ft to 9000ft). I once crossed the Grand Canyon in one of these 150s at 14,500ft DA and still could climb at a few hundred fpm. In similar conditions I've taken off from 5000ft (9000ft+ DA) with Cessna 172s, 2 people, partial fuel, and climbing out at only 130fpm. The 150 could still make over 300fpm at 14,500ft DA that day. Couldn't test it out any higher due to oxygen requirement limitations though.

@@MOTOBLADE Yes, the 150/150 with all the STOL stuff is a Lot of fun. My current 150 is stock 100hp, and I can't justify the cost to upgrade either. Now they have those electric adjustable props now too, so you don't have to stick with just one pitch in flight either, would love to see what that could to for a 150/150. I think I'll put that kind of money towards my next airplane. But the 150/150 remains one of the most fun airplanes I've flown so far.
I agree, I love hearing the engine, but there is a reason. Once the airspeed is over 40kts outside, the mic is overloaded and just pops and cuts out. The microphone in the cockpit is linked into the audio system on the panel. It is only active when I speak or when it receives a radio transmission. If I put no music, you would hear nothing, just total silence. Unless I get a dedicated audio microphone just to record engine sound, and that adds a substantial amount of time to editing.
I love it I am a student pilot past the written test and have 31 hours logged hope to solo in 15 to 20 more and I am a biker been riding Harley's 47 years ya! I know I got started late in learning to fly I am a heathy 65 and going to be a pilot one day at a time!!
Congratulations! Since this video earlier last year (I say last year but it's only January 1st of 2022 that I'm writing this) I got my CFI and CFII. Practice, fly safe, don't push it with the weather. I wish you many wonderful years of flying my friend!
I love it for IFR flying. The 650 is great for LPV approaches and situational awareness. Thankfully it was already installed when I got the plane so I didn't have to do it!
Flying into the Adirondack mountains in New York. But I agree with you. Once I traveled out west, everything else is just a “hill”. Can’t wait to ride the motorcycle out west through the REAL mountains this summer!
Yes they are TNWings seats. Don’t remember the color combo name. Had them for 2.5 years now, they are absolutely amazing. Got them thicker and bolstered and they are incredible seats. Easy to install yourself.
Check the 0:30 mark disclaimer. A lot of the flight is edited out for time. If something isn't interesting I edit it out. Still trying to figure out the best "flow" for my aviation videos. Figuring out what people want to see and what can be cut. As a CFII, I find it all interesting, but I know I can't possibly have it all or people would fall asleep 🙃

Hey! May be an odd question but do you know who did the seats in this 150 it looks like it would be tn wings. I own a 150 and looking to redo my seats & was just wondering
Not an odd question at all. Filmed this shortly after installing the new seats myself. TN wings did make new upholstery and shipped it to me. I did the ceconite work and repainted the frames, then installed the seat upholstery onto the frames. Probably 4 to 5 hours of work for each seat (if you have experience with this sort of thing it would go a lot quicker, I had never done something like this and I'm a perfectionist so it took me a while). They are INCREDIBLE seats. Got the extra thick core so I sit a little higher now and see completely over the nose at landing. Best investment we ever made in our plane. 12 hour day of flying in the 150 and no sore back or butt anymore. Like flying in luxury. Plus the whole cabin smells like fine leather now. We got them during an osh kosh special for around $800 for both seats. Hope that helps!
Had it for a year and half. Amazing little plane. I have a STC for auto fuel so I can burn 97 in it instead of 100LL all the time. Ends up costing $12 an hour in fuel. I don't get anywhere fast but I get there cheap 😁
this is a very interesting and lovely video, some say the cessna 150 can fly 310nm then some say it can fly 6,000 nm just cant trust the internet, have you ever flew 6,000nm on one tank without landing to refill in your cessna 150?
@@MOTOBLADE I call the 150/150 the poor man's supercub. With the small tires on I throttle back to the bottom of the yellow(I think that is 124)...you can fly at 110 and have longer fuel range than a standard 150. If you would like a valuation/opinion of a 150/150 we can email.

Properly leaned they can do ok. I think the most I got mine up to was 10k and she didn't like it.

Why does everyone insist on putting music over the sound of the airplane? That's the real music!

6000 is not possible. Furthest I've gone on a single tank of fuel is 380nm, with a good tailwind pushing me.
