Music will be settled by qualifying for sectionals/ nationals and all competitions, etc.
Q: There are serious rumors about adult competitions and the Sectioals and Nationals 2025. That there will be qualifying at sectionals and no longer non-qualifying or open events. What's the "Tea" on this rumor or is it and if so how will it work. Are there now going to be special testing, or will adults have to do numerous competitions like the kids have to do now to qualify for nationals?

I'm unsure of what you mean that "music will be settled by qualifying for sections/nationals and all competitions, etc." If you mean that the competitions will clear your music, that is not what the policy is. According to the policy, the only music that is cleared for use in any U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned event is music that 100% ASCAP or BMI, or combination of the two.
I can't speak to any rumors.

Are there any videos on here of YOU skating? I can't find anything

    •  3 місяці тому +1

Not really. I retired from competitive skating in 2019 due to injury. I’m now a few months away from 50 with chronic injuries so my skating is limited to coaching my skaters, which is the case for many older coaches.

First of all, hello, I have a question for you. There is no place where I can buy skates where I live. My coach told me to buy online. In this case, will it cause any problems if I buy it online?

    •  3 місяці тому +2

Assuming that your coach measured your foot and provided a specific recommendation of the brand, model, and size (including width) and is able to assist you with heat molding, shaping, adjustments, mounting and sharpening, you could buy online. However, if they did not give you any specifics and just said "buy online," I do not recommend that you do that as you will likely run into issues such as improper sizing. I made an entire video about what to do if you do not have a skate shop near you. You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/MqYmERC5tgk/v-deo.html

First of all, thank you for your quick and descriptive answer. My coach took my foot measurements in millimeters and said he would order the skates that fit me online. Frankly, I'm new to this hobby. I hope it will be fine.

You're welcome! It sounds like your coach is knowledgable and may also be a skate tech. I think you are in good hands!

Finally, which brand and model of skates would you recommend to someone who is starting to spin?

Just want to say Thank You for this video. It's more info than we've received from USFS.
I have mostly LTS students / CompeteUSA skaters, but I did have a skater take USFS tests last season. So I (and other coaches at my low-level rink) have to decide what to do. Very frustrating.

You're very welcome! I basically put everything together that U.S. Figure Skating has provided and condensed it so that it would be easier to understand, as they have released information in different formats and at different times, which has created some of the confusion. I'm glad that you find it helpful!

The main issue I had with the vote (and I got to vote) is the vote wasn’t really broadcasted well, and that seems like it was by design. I only knew to vote because someone in our area did a plea with a competition wrap up email. Then I was able to go back and find the email. The email didn’t stand out at all. This was a major change that they had already had figured out and only did a “vote” to not violate rules. If a majority of members voted and we all understood honestly what led to this decision, and the results were the same, I’d be fine with it. I don’t think that’s the case. USFS keeps rolling out programs that are in beta mode, at best. They now have a monopoly on competitive skating. Many coaches are in areas where they can’t choose ISI, and even if they were, USFS is still the go to for tests and anything professional. This monopoly, fake presentation of “price savings” is ridiculous and insulting. I was only happy about getting higher level recognition without it nationally ranked skaters. Now they lost me.

I can't say that I disagree! The communication on this could have been better. While I can't say I had an experience where I didn't see the messages, I will say that information came across as disjointed. In order to produce this video, I had to go back through at least four or five different webinars, as well as emails and reformat the information to communicate it effectively. Both sides could have done a better job at communicating with clearer messaging.

Hey Aimee, I saw one of your other videos about, after I buy ice skates what to do. In one of your points you talked about going to a professional ice shop for sharpening, but I live in upper florida where no professional shops are…. So what do you recommend for me??

    •  3 місяці тому +1

I actually did a whole video about what to do if you have no skate shops near you: ua-cam.com/video/MqYmERC5tgk/v-deo.html
