We live in Calderdale and were flooded last weekend. We survived without permanent damage because of the investment in flood resilience we've made in our own home - £12,000 from our own packets. Four floods in eight years ... who was asleep at the wheel? The local Tory MP voted against £800 million in flood defence funding. How much do people have to lose to see the damage this party is doing to the country?

Hopefully after brexit we will kick the UK government into shape and change the whole system too.
I'm not sure what could be done? PLEASE illuminate me. A river will flood, come what may. Why don't people buy their OWN door flood barriers? It IS their home!
Because we've had an entire generation raised to be dependant on the government to literally think for them, and in this case, the thought is oh no it's climate change and the capitolists and big oil are to blame and the only solution is to ban cars... Installing flood defences and taking preventative measures such as river dredging or home preparation are seen as old fashioned and all old things are bad.
Almost all the buildings flooded predate planning regulations. Flooding was not a problem in this area 100 years ago. There are NO new houses being built on the flood plain in Calderdale.

Floods are nothing new, I was only 4 years old and I remember my father spent ages repairing and upgrading a caravan in the summer of 1952 we called it Lulu, and he berthed at a holiday resort on Canvey Island Essex, and if you google it you will find the great flood came in February 1953 which came down from the north and flooded the whole site, the caravan was a complete loss, we was so looking forward to have a holiday there. I also remember he had an Armstrong Siddeley motor car with running boards, I'm sure it had a cranking handle to start it up?
council planning is to blame we still build houses based on victorian 2 up 2 down we need a modern approach including houses that if they get wet can be hosed out and used again so solid floors tiles houses on stilts homes that float up with water levels we have got to move away from traditional bricks and mortar
Stay in doors? Prepare your house? Abolish Carbon and Green Taxes so people can afford energy, food, repairs and preparations? The solutions are very simple but they're not politically profitable.
It was very dry in Australia too, then it finally poured, much to our relief. I am confident it will happen where you are too. Mother Nature answered our call.
Hhmmm if u build near water and flood areas this is to be expected and here in the us at least where I live if u do build there and choose to live there then it is responsibility to take care of the flooding to make sure your house does not flood like buying your own sand bags and things and doing the work your self
some of the houses have been there for centuries. people here pay taxes and expect the money to be spent well. a few sand bags filled by whomever won't do much in the long run.
But america is a land of personal responsibility and rational forethought. The UK is the land of government dependence and hysterical screaming about 'Climate Change' whether it's real or not.
Despite growing awareness, our government still allows landowners to help flood the homes of people living downstream. I am talking about W. Yorks but not allowed to comment earlier. But the grouse shooting will be excellent. Au barricades, Citizen.
£106,000,000,000 for HS 2 to save a few minutes travel if you happen to catch a train at the exact time you want at a price most will not be able to afford! Meanwhile, tens of thousands of homes, schools, medical facilities, businesses suffer because they suffer flooding....If the HS 2 budget is not spent and spent on schools, hospitals, care for the elderly, pot holes and flood defences, most taxpayers would support the government! meanwhile the taxpayers are expected to pay for the HS2...a service most taxpayers will never use! The economic losses of future extreme climate change events will run into £trillions and the suffering of millions of taxpayers!
The government will say investment and the lack of available funding is the issue ...though that isnt entirely true?... as legislation to force landowners to drain properly there lands aswell adjustment to the topography and geography would certainly help but there's still no escaping the cost of these events whether by the public or private purse....these storms cost the people of Britain many many millions in terms of damages...but we can only be expected to be met by more in terms of costs and what's more it will be time after time or we can sensibly opt to carry out the work in one sitting and put at least the worst of these events finally behind our backs. ..it really is that simple as even the worst of nature's wrath is not beyond the enginuity of men and our control so it's not about money it's about the governmental will to act constructively decisively as none of these flood victims are about to get out of the financial responsibility of such an deluge of persistantly catastrophic flooding events...the choice for people is simple suffer the government's economic and environmental polices catastrophic flooding costs and damages or get rid of the nonsense of the tories and get on with the work ourselves because that kind of effort from the people will cure this kind disaster...and it will cure it once and for all...!!
Agree. Of course Countries many are ready. So far is not a pandemic out side of China. It would be considered a pandemic when people might start dying in hundreds or thousands. By catastrophysing when we are not even close at this. We need to be careful not make people get in real paranoya. Drs are Learning more and more. Unfortunately it happened in a time of big holidays. I don't see becoming an dangerous pandemic. We need be rational. By panicking does not help. And some of the media aee not helping. With out having tangible statistics and using words like: we all going to died. It won't happen. I have been commenting about the 1918 influenza for a while. From history the the 1918 (by the way) the first has been mentioned. The worst pandemic in whole history was in 1918. virus occurred in America. Originated in Kansas, the government was to blame for acting sooner. It killed about 50 million to died and 500 million infected. This wont happen since then health study wore not prepared for it. The vaccine was created in 1930. The most healthy wore dying. The masks do work other wise there death there would a horrific issue. The virus is hear all we should help by helping sending need it supply to China. I joined a Chinese church that are working hard to send China pakegines to help by donating money. I donated 400 $. Those who can't donate 2$ that can result in millions. By doing that we help each other. Many Chinese organization and other Countries are donating what they can. RussIa had help. let's humanity ckiking and help. I have no doubt this virus will pass. And Chinese drs are sacrephing their lifes to help. The world health organization are sending specialist are send to help and come up solutions. Also it won't be like the black plague occurred in Europe. And people wore closed in there houses to diy and putting crosses on their doors. Viruses don't discriminate. At those difficult time. It didn't not spread to other Countries. It also depends on humans dnya. Many when infected did not die. Same is today some dnya system because they have such DNA don't die. I pray every day. I don't fear helping the Chinese organization outside China by helping them even I'm risking my life. Human beings reaction diffently. And I understand since people I afraid of death. I honestly don't. No news reported that 36,000 American diy yearly fru, influenza. My friend died this way. Even with flue shots 1,000 million died from mosquitoes, aides. And there still are being discriminate. yearly in America die . But we got used to it And don't pay attention. Please let's get together and help. Sustainable investment, and projects that actually going ahead. Changing the planning rules and recognising that we all live on the same planet is important. Do people need to die before London takes notice?
Nah, never, it was a pristine perfect Carbon free Utopia and no one ever got sick and died from a cold or died from a papercut or having sewage in the streets. The trees were also made of not-carbon-onium so that producing Co2 was just unnecessary, Then along came diesel and we all just started dying on mass 35 years later than we were expected to before diesel.

Get in touch with Ecosia they plant trees- it a search engine.
We've already been doing this. This community is quite capable and organised - we just need to have funding for these schemes.
Why are you telling me.
They're also politically involved with the " Climate Change " narrative. Just go plant trees yourself, or dont, they have a habbit of spreading with or without our intervention, they've been doing it for a very long time.
Climate Change narrative --- Plant Trees
Science ----- Planting trees has no effect on our atmospheres CO2 cycle
Nothing to do with climate warriors... there point was that it should slow the deluge. Thats all.
Be happy.
Well spoken.
sure 2 bags at your door will save you from flood. WTF? Really?
Did you not see that bloke earlier on with a bucket behind his gate xD... trying to get the water out, 3 foot of water on the othersied xD.
they only had one bag last time.
They need to tape the gaps in the door so the water stays out, can pick them up from Poundland
You really only need to slow down the water ingress enough to remove the water from your home before it can overwhelm the area. Two sandbags won't save it but it will help.
My prayers are with you all. God will look out for his people.
It's the poor people whose homes are flooded out I feel for. Especially those in areas where it is a regular event. It's soul destroying when all of your cherished possessions get ruined or lost like that. Focusing in sustainable development that incorporates effective flood protection for water management systems that private sector companies can get regulatory support from government.
C'mon Boris, this is infrastructure too mate.

Moral of the story....? Don't live or build residential next to a river or on a flood plain.
Spot on. All the information should be in the "search" before you buy a property!
Come up with costly systems to prevent water damage. Or reduce climate change by reducing animal agriculture. The singles biggest effect on global warming
well the thing is we have had rain since last november i live in birmingham and there hasn't been many dry days even over christmas we had rain
The earth is going a bit crazy lately....definitely not normal times.
It might be best for them to dig Relief ditches to divert Rainwater..
You mean proper land management? We've been dredging rivers in the UK for generations but since Green Politics got involved we've been able to do less and less land management leading to, ell, unmanaged land, floods and such. In Australia it's lead to bush fires too.
@@rhedinrage1601 Interesting. So green politics are the root cause of the fires in Australia? You learn something new every day!
@@worldpeace8299 actually much of the fires wouldn't have done so much damage had they been allowed to do their yearly burns...they literally diverge funds elsewhere. But the effects were terrible and many suffered.

I'm in South Wales and have water coming in through my roof and seeping down the upstairs bedroom walls. No flooding though, fortunately, so this video puts my trifling issue into perspective.

Imo and Izzy Vlogs god bless you I’m from South Wales it’s not a small matter, it saddens me to here my home people struggling in fact and one struggling I’m praying this gets better 🙏🙏❤️
Im from West Yorkshire and I can honestly tell you 'Mytholmroyd' never heard of it
Hello from central VA. USA
Alma Kelly hi to you wish we were in there lol winds are so bad here thank you for your message 🙏🙏❤️
council planning is to blame we still build houses based on victorian 2 up 2 down we need a modern approach including houses that if they get wet can be hosed out and used again so solid floors tiles houses on stilts homes that float up with water levels we have got to move away from traditional bricks and mortar
I'm sorry but for the people in West Yorkshire for the flooding . If the government spends a lot of money it wouldn't be right .

Stay in doors? Prepare your house? Abolish Carbon and Green Taxes so people can afford energy, food, repairs and preparations? The solutions are very simple but they're not politically profitable.
That dreary looking boghole would be little loss architecturally.

Luke Jenkins god bless my home wales, praying this passed soon for us all
Here in Central Coast of Calif we haven't had rain since early Dec..😞
It was very dry in Australia too, then it finally poured, much to our relief. I am confident it will happen where you are too. Mother Nature answered our call.
Hhmmm if u build near water and flood areas this is to be expected and here in the us at least where I live if u do build there and choose to live there then it is responsibility to take care of the flooding to make sure your house does not flood like buying your own sand bags and things and doing the work your self
The Govermnent should introduce Moat Grants. Free shovel with every appication!
In this area, the houses now flooded were built long before (mostly around 100 years, many older) flooding was an issue.
some of the houses have been there for centuries. people here pay taxes and expect the money to be spent well. a few sand bags filled by whomever won't do much in the long run.

At least the Army got something to do 🤣🤣
Stay safe friends, plant forests, This man is exactly right.
Has the second reporter got a black eye, definitely discolouration around his eye..
Get this man a hat
AND RAINCOAT !
Drama drama. Nothing to see here. Media storm.
I don't see this virus spreading drastically in Europe. There many Countries that not don't have not even case. Like Latin America and others. So far is like theory probability meaning it might happen or not . Predicting is very hard even from super experts. It helps for making plans and development. And stop the zinophobia that innocent Chinese people don't deserve. I read some comments that make me sick. Because luck of knowledge(ignorance). I almost lost my life when I was 21 one. And would do it again. Please share if one has companion and understanding.

Why build So Close to a river?
Because flooding risk was understood less well when these houses were built - and these were lowly homes for lowly manual workers so they weren't deemed important.

Just a theory -could planners allow another floor to be constructed on dwellings and cease to use the ground floor , except as a work area or garage in areas that will continue to flood ? in effect build upwards accepting its going to be a repetitive state of affairs ---

Buy a house on a flood plain, complain to government when it floods.... Ok.
very silly comment on so many levels.
It's really not. Many of these same places have flooded for the last 100 years.
That's how it works in a government dependant country. You don't think for yourself, you pay your carbon taxes, accept all the blanket bans and since you've been a good boy, the government will do everything for you, even think for you.
Sustainable investment, and projects that actually going ahead. Changing the planning rules and recognising that we all live on the same planet is important. Do people need to die before London takes notice?
Suck up the climate hype folks ... it never rained before diesel cars or plastic bags ...
