    Dixie Land
    I wish I was in the land of cotton,
    Old times there are not forgotten;
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
    In Dixie's Land where I was born in,
    Early on one frosty morning,
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
    CHORUS:
    Then I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
    In Dixie's Land I'll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie!
    Away! Away! Away down South in Dixie!
    Away! Away! Away down South in Dixie!
    Old Missus married "Will the Weaver";
    William was a gay deceiver!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
    But when he put his arm around her,
    Smiled as fierce as a forty-pounder!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--
    His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver;
    But that did not seem to grieve her!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
    Old Missus acted the foolish part
    And died for a man that broke her heart!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--
    Now here's a health to the next old missus
    And all the gals that want to kiss us!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
    But if you want to drive away sorrow,
    Come and hear this song tomorrow!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--

    There's buckwheat cakes and Injin batter,
    Makes you fat or a little fatter!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
    Then hoe it down and scratch your gravel,
    To Dixie's Land I'm bound to travel!
    Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

    I always respected the rebel soldiers and Generals,I cant say I think they were in the right but I do have respect for them because they gave everything for what they believed to be right

    Charlie recorded Dixie on his Americana album. He is making a live DVD / CD on February 13th but that won't be available for months and Rebel Soldier may not be included; it's not one of his more popular songs up North! Dixie always gets a great reception at Zahm shows. His wonderful version is on the 2002 "Americana" album; it's paired with a different song called "Sweet Sunny South" there.

    Normally I'm not a fan of the original lyrics, but that was damn beautiful... Rivals the "Everybody's Dixie" lyrics...
    By the way, I re-enact both sides. Any Washington State reenactors, give me a shout.

    little fun fact you know Presidents favorite song was Dixie,One point later in the war he was on a steamer in the Potomac river with a guest from Germany and Lincoln asked him if he had ever heard Dixie the man shook his head so Lincoln replied "the tunes federal property now so I see no reason why the people cant enjoy it again",and then ordered the band to play the song

    By the way, the concert a success.
    Japanese liked the song. In fact, they didn't care a bit about the fact that the song used to be one of the unofficial anthems of the Confederate States of America.
    Only an American teacher had some issues at the beginning, but ended up liking the rendition after all.
    Again, thanks a lot. ^^

    I liked his style, specially singing southern tunes with a Union uniform ;). Reminded me of Sgt. Chesterfield, of the French comic 'Les Tuniques bleues'

    Blue Grass is basicaly Celtic Music. if u play Blue Grass in Irland they will sometimes mistake it for their own. also Country was influnced by Celtic music and other influences.

    Were I was born one frosted morning, Dixie, Lookout Mountain Tennessee.
    How could this song ever be politically incorrect? If it is I don't want to live in the Union.

    CZ has his costumes made for him by a reinacting specalist... it's design is based on the uniform of a Zahm relative ...

    This is called the "folk process" used a lot by writers like Woody Guthrie who take traditional tunes (or bits and pieces of them) and add their own words...

  • @markay1
    @markay1  17 років тому

    Well, he's from Florida but living in Pennsylvania. Florida is definitely Southern ; -)

  • @makokun9
    @makokun9 17 років тому

    The costume is awsome! Where did you get it?
    Actually I was thinking about singing this song in Japan, at Ehime University, next week. Some people told me to think about it, that many American teachers working from northern states working here may not like the idea... but you just gave me the resolve I needed.
    Thank you so very much! ^^
