That's an admirable approach to get the acrylic pieces in the box, well done. I'm not a fan of substituting ziplock bags as a storage system, so I will definitely keep an eye out for a third party organizer that has a more effective set of compartments for all those nice acrylic pieces. At least your approach will do the job until then. Thanks for sharing.
It's funny I saw this video weeks ago and thought... huh really that's an odd topic. Then I got my copy in and thought "where's that video I need it now!"
Thanks so much for this video!!! This is totally the way to go when you have all things acrylic. So now its just this and my terrain tiles box and I can handle that!
Yes! Every Big Box game needs a re-boxing video (I’m looking at you, Everdell Complete Collection!) The fact that everything STILL doesn’t fit, means we’ll need new Big Box boxes for our Big Box games in the future.
@@BoardGamingRamblings I just received my game! Used you re-boxing advise, and I'm very happy with how it's stored now. I don't know if I would have thought of just tossing part of the insert out. I stored the plastic grids in the player boards so pulling out the tray with all the Dutchy Boards is a bit easier. And I stored the cardboard terrain tiles and tokens in the Acrylic terrain box. 😃 Thanks again!
Thank you so much for doing this! My copy will have the acrylic tiles (not the 3D), so I will probably be putting it all in just like you did. Also, YES, please do a playthrough!
A playthrough with the vineyard expansion, and maybe any others that are included, would be great. I thought I saw somewhere that the idea was that all the leather-ish bags holding the tiles are supposed to go back in the box with the tiles inside, but no idea if that's true. Would be great if the designers would release a video and/or PDF to print out with a guide, just like they did the the 3D terrain tiles. Thanks for the video. I don't think I've actually ever seen a reboxing video before!
Thanks for sharing. I may do something similar while swapping out the main board and putting the playmat diagonally with the bags around it. I’ll obviously have to see if that works once I have my copy. :)
1) thank you for the great video. 2) I totally agree with you on how baggies are better than poorly designed inserts, and in some cases all inserts. 3) I think you oriented the box so that all the bags are now upside down...😅
Awaken Realms are usually very good at listening and making changes in my experience. With that said, inserts are very hard, and there is a reason companies excists that just makes inserts!
Thank you! Glad to see that the extra plastic tiles do fit the main box. I was worried I would have to find a space for two boxes (I didn’t order the terrain pack). I would be interested if you actually use the terrain tiles or just stick with the tiles you draw out of the bags.
We have used the terrain tiles so far, and have been enjoying them. Adds maybe 3 minutes to a 2p game. 100% cosmetic, but it does look very good. The acrylic tiles are also fantastic! Love it all!
I really liked what Breaking Games did with Dwellings of Eldervale insert for different versions. Basic Version just came with empty boxes as place holder for legendary and upgraded resources so in case you decide to get the upgrades later all you need is swap those place holder boxes
I wish a game of this size did like dwellings of Eldervale where they really design it for the all in, and smaller pledges just have a bigger box lol. As opposed to a box that doesn’t fit everything lol. Oh well. I’m still super excited to get this!
Great video, and so useful! How do you feel about the weight of it all? I'm hesitant to add the acrylic tiles into the box out of fear it will make the box too heavy and split it over time.
@@BoardGamingRamblings i too abandoned the 2 piece insert and did the rest pretty much the same as you, except for the fact that i MUST have text on my tiles, so i left all of the acrylic hex tiles out ( i did use the ones from the small box but without the small box insert). and because of this, i was able to make room for the board matt which i was happy about :)
Sounds like a good solution for it! I’m happy with this solution so far, after setting up and tearing down a couple of times. Takes a bit longer than the original which I could set up in a couple of minutes, but personally I find it worth it for the new look! :)
Just think, someone got paid, spent ages designing these inserts and telling us it won't all fit, for us to chuck bits out, wedge it in and go: See! It all fits!
Like you, I want to fit ALL expansions and extras in a single box, so “reboxing” creativity is required. Appreciate your approach! (Too bad the playmat doesn’t fit… not sure what to do there…)
Thanks for this video. I guess it goes without saying that the playmat's dimensions wouldn't allow it to go into the box, even with some rearranging? What do you plan to do with the extra (duplicate??) components? Keep up the great work. I always enjoy your videos. You bring some much appreciated joy to the hobby.
Thank you for the kind words, Greg! I do not see how I can fit the playmat, as the box is very full already. We’ll throw away the plastic inserts we are not using. Unsure what we’ll do with the carboard hexes 😅
I usually punch out extra things and put them in a large plastic bag that I mark with the game and then just store in one large box for all games I've done this with. I have an database where I make a comment for each game I do this as well so you don't forget you've taken things out.
@@BoardGamingRamblings - so, two months later and my copy of the Special Edition magically appeared on our doorstep (no notifications for our last three crowdfunding projects, go figure). We'd opted for the game, the playmat (hence the earlier question), and the acrylic tiles (no 3D terrain tiles). Punching things out seemed a little overwhelming, at first, especially since there's no instructions. I knew we'd be revisiting this video for your take on it. Initially, we didn't punch any hex tiles, and just moved the acrylic tiles into the bags and arranged in the "L" shaped and smaller insets. All the Vineyard and Automa content fit, snugly, into the bottom insert just like you did. Upon rewatch, I noticed that we also didn't order the acrylic token pack. Maybe that's why we were able to get everything to fit while retaining those two inserts you got rid of. We may revisit that based on your great observations of getting goods, coins, etc. out of them. Maybe better to have just used bags. We did finally punch the cardboard tiles and am currently storing them in the acrylic tile "insert" - no idea why, since we'll probably never use them. It was good to see that we got most everything the way you did it, and it fit with no box lift. Thanks, again for your videos. Always a joy to watch.
I don't think it matters if you have the cardboard or acrylic tiles. If you keep the insert, the problem is that you have to put all the tiles in the bags at the beginning of every game, and put them back in the insert at the end of every game. That's just very unpractical.
We only played once so far (sitting down to play again now) and we did play with the 3D terrain. Added maybe 3 minutes to the game, and made it very beautiful!
That is the way to go. There would be no advantage over the old Version if you always have to fill the bags first. So stupid, what the publisher do sonetimes. It is so big. So may i stay with my old version and sell the new one. 🤣 Great Work. Maybe the publishers just ask a real boardgamer like you and the will do better products.
I like that publishers try to make an insert that makes sense. It is hard, and there is a reason there are third party companies working exclusively on making inserts. I like the way this ended up :) Happy with my way of reboxing!
Hey :) Thanks for the feedback! 100% ok if the video wasn’t for you, but a 13 minute video is of the shortest ones we have ever made 😂 Some rambling and stuff going on around the topic is a lot of our channel, hehe! If you double the speed, it’s about 6 minutes, which is a pretty short video :D
reboxing are where its at. Unboxing are so yesterday. This is very useful. Thanks.
Hahahahaha 😂

For the money, the box should’ve been organized a lot better and had room for everything outside the terrain pack.

Yeah, I didn’t try that! I guess «folding» it shouldn’t be a problem! Thanks for watching!

Thank you. You just saved me a lot of time that I can use to play this wonderful game !
Glad you got something from it :D
Let's hope the publishers are watching this and taking notes, for future games 😅
When do publishers take notes? Through the campaign they didn’t…

Dwellings of Eldervale's insert is still the best insert system for a board game I have seen so far.
I do like the Dwellings insert as well! This makes me remember to play it for Keep or Cull soon!
Thank you! Helpful seeing this. It would of been nice if Sunniva had a second camera to shoot a more over-head angle. Can’t wait to receive my game!
We finally have the second camera up again for playthroughs and so on, so if we do others like this, you’ll see a second camera! :)
Playthrough, yes please.
Will be coming next week 🤩

baggies FTW!! :)
I love them 🤩

Im just going to put the 3d terrain tiles in the box. I don't mind lid lift on a game this big.
Sounds good! It will take up the same space, so then it’s all up to preferences! :)

get an artwork storage tube for the mat
Glad it was of help :D
Nice. I didn’t get the acrylic tiles so I’m hoping I can fit most things within the insert.
You should be able to with no problem, I’m pretty sure!
No problems for you, the insert easily fits all the cardboard bits.

My duplicate components will just end up in my bin of extra pieces.
I don't know, or I can't think of any other use at this time.
Take care

The acrilycs don't fit inside the bags inside the original insert?
There might be some way to get them in the «hole» in the upper insert layer, but this way felt better to me personally!
Thanks! That was my comment 👑 😂
Yes it was! Thank you for making me make this video! :D
Box size contest: which game has the biggest box, this one or Gloomhaven? 😅
Haha, unsure 😅
could you place the unpunched cardboard tiles under the downmost layer (to keep them there forever) and still be able to close the lid ;)?
You could place it, but it would end up with some lid lift, as the box is very full already!
@@BoardGamingRamblings thank you! :)
Are you going to do the “punching of burgundy” video too? And the inevitable “(finding) shelving of burgundy”
Sadly already punched, but will do a «traveling with Burgundy», «taking the bus with Burgundy» and so on! Will be at least 100 episodes!
Will it fit in the Kallax standing up?
If you don't have the acrylic hex tiles, would you keep all the inserts then?
I don't think it matters if you have the cardboard or acrylic tiles.

I think you could fit the bags with the tiles in with the insert, if not acrylic, but I am not sure! Haven’t tried it in a Kallax yet!
Everything fits nicely in the inserts without acrylic tiles.

We only played once so far (sitting down to play again now) and we did play with the 3D terrain. Added maybe 3 minutes to the game, and made it very beautiful!
Im guessing its impossible to fit 3D terrain in same box unfortunately.
You could, with a 50% lid lift, but it would take almost the same amount of space!
I always suffer on throwing away the cupboard bits... I usually save them in the bottom...
Know the feeling!
@1:30 Rhado made it fit by putting it diagonally.
That is a good idea! Thanks for sharing :)
