- Mohamed Al Fayed, the former Harrods boss whose son Dodi was killed in a car crash alongside Diana, Princess of Wales, has died aged 94.
Born in Egypt, he built a business empire in the Middle East before moving to the UK in the 1970s.
However, he never realised his ambition to gain a passport for his adopted country.
Mr Al Fayed had remained largely out of the public limelight in the past decade.

Its shocking how little coverage the British media gave over his death despite the important role he played in British public life so long!
This is because he kept saying the British Royal Family and MI6 Were involved in the murder of his Son and Princess Diana. After that he fell out with the establishment.
Racism
@@quentinverdaasdonk9386 I couldn't agree more! He was famous globally too due to so many connections. Harrods looks run down these days after he sold it and clearly is missed there. He used to treat it like his home and spend a lot of time there despite being a billionaire. He gave so much to charity in the UK . They bloody couldn't give him citizenship even, that's how racist the British establishment is!
@@theancientsancients1769 He lied a lot as evidence on the Crown!

The fact he wasn't given citizenship after all these years just shows the system is indeed messed up
If he had waited a few years, he could have come in as a French illegal immigrant.
@@briansmith8490sir down for 5 minutes and think about your comment. You must never be allowed to teach any kids anything. What a despicable person!

Ignorant American here. Why was he not granted citizenship? Surely he could afford it.
messed up? seems every one and their uncle have poured into London.
May he be with his son.
So sad he was 68/69 years old when he lost his Son & he fought hard for what he believed in.Even if people don’t agree I’m grateful he was able to pursue what he thought was right. Almost 30 years without his beloved son was too much for him. I can’t imagine. May he rest in peace. 1 day just shy of 26 years to the day. It’s obvious he died of a broken heart in addition to old age.
What a life. What a legacy. He was completely changed after his kids death, so sad.
Would his 'legacy' include all of the arms dealing he did for his brother-in-law back in the 1960s?
Yes? Weapons are traded all the time. You know the west selling arms to Ukraine falls under that category, right?
Rip that scene in the crown was legendary

@@SenorSolOh please shut up.
Wow he nearly made it to 100. What a long life! Rest in Paradise with your beloved son now and beloved Princess.
This man with high respect deserves to be recognized.
He had no respect from the British people, they saw him for what he was, an arriviste and parvenu!
Ironically wrt your eulogy, he didn't, but that was what I liked about him-- pure irreverence. He was, in his own eyes, an Egyptian Prince and the only one worthy of respect
Also to be recognized, he was a womanizer and probably committed numerous adultery and possibly rape
@@mysteriousjz Like most Arab men! It's part of their 'culture', and it's a feature of Islam!
@@SenorSol
Hmm. Not Islam though. Maybe some Arabs because of culture. However, adultery and rape are common among others, like in the US and other Christian cultures, fornication and adultery are parts of way of life. In the US alone, there is a rape every minute or similar. Islam and Muslims , just the opposite.
Fantastic guy and his boy and Diana... R.I.P 😢
Shows how dirty politics is played.
His contribution to England far outweighs over 99% of all who were granted citizenship in last 30 years. Yet, was repeatedly denied….

He didn’t bribe/payoff!

He had a great illustrious career and a great long life. His a major contributor to English economy. In 1972, Fayed purchased the Balnagown estate in Easter Ross, Northern Scotland. From an initial 4.8 hectares (12 acres), Al-Fayed went on to build the estate up to 26,300 hectares (65,000 acres). Al-Fayed invested more than £20 million in the estate, restored the 14th-century pink Balnagown Castle, and created a tourist accommodation business. The Highlands of Scotland tourist board awarded Al-Fayed the Freedom of the Highlands in 2002, in recognition of his "outstanding contribution and commitment to the Highlands." Now he is with his elder son Dodi. R.I.P. 🙏

He was never given the recognition he deserved by the British establishment for what he did for his contribution to the British economy and for the employment he created, in fact the establishment treated him with total contempt that I've never understood why is that?

Harrods is a luxury department store located on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, London, England. It is one of the largest and most famous department stores in the world, with 330 departments covering 1.1 million square feet (100,000 square meters) of retail space.
Yes, but, it's still a corner(s) shop.
But still.
I used to buy porcupines there in the 70s.
The butcher's wouldn't stock them at the time on the grounds they would end up being endangered. (No, not the butchers ... do try to keep up.)
Not a problem really because once these animals become extinct you don't have to worry about them anymore. Job done!
And, even better, once managed to source a panda there.
It wasn't a wild one though; regrettably it came from a famous zoo.
I gather the zoo got fed up trying to source bamboo shoots because Kew raised the price per shoot.
Outrageous if you ask me.
The zoo replaced their panda at first by two panda experts (from the Chinaman Embassy) in a panda suit, not unlike the recently exposed bears in the Pekinese (or somewhere) zoo.
The current panda is now an automaton or robot.
The keepers simply recycle the bamboo twigs and the robots re-eat them the next day.
The bamboo shoots aren't real and are made from plastic.
Luckily they don't have to have "single use plastic".
Which is lucky.
I was once told by a bloke down the pub that
they actually supplied the animals for Jurassic Park.
Well done Harrods!!!
I'll just pop into Harries for my camel milk and Twinings Dear. See you in a jiffee!
