Hi Stan thanks for mentioning our channel. Now thinking about it on my old deactivated k98 rifles I had to use a flat bladed screwdriver to get the rounds out if I put them in the internal magazine. Strange with the one we have now you don't. Great video, all the best from the Blitz boys 👍
Thanks very much ...yeh a flat headed screwdriver or butter knife...🙂🙂🙂. Its good you've shown your EU spec k98...I definitely would buy a p14 or other bolt action in this spec now...thanks very much 🙂🙂
Hello Sten, alot of people miss understand today what the todays "Cleaning rod" was used for. Going after the H.Dv. 130/2a Die Schützenkompanie from 1942 of a Pz.Gren unit, the "cleaning rod" was just called "Rod=stock" and it wasnt used for Cleaning, it was only used for Making a Weapon tent out of 3 98er, which will Hook into each other, when you use those as cleaning, inside the barrel are drills, and at the rod is a thread, if you try to clean the Barrel, the stuff you screw at the rod will get loose to it and the barrel will be blocked and probably destroy the rifle. Thats why even everyone had a Cleaning kit.
The rifle looks awesome mate ! ..I like the T-shirt too !! Very interesting history to the rifle. Great video my friend !! Sweet to have the bayonet too !!
Great review of your K98s. Shame about the hassle with the first one. I have used Arundel Arms for 6 of my 7 deacts, never had a problem with them. My K98k is an old specification deactivation and, like yours, is a 237 marked example. Mine is dated 1940. BTW, 237 is the marker mark, as you said, for the Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabrik and their k98s were made in Lübeck, northern Germany, not Berlin. Mine, like yours, is a 'Soviet Capture' mismatched serial numbered example. However, mine has no trace of ever having had shellac on it, the metalwork is still a nice gunmetal blue. Also, mine doesn't have the usual 'X' (crossed rifles) Soviet mark on it. Funny thing is, the Soviets reused the '237' maker mark on my rifle as their serial number: the number 237 is electro-penciled on the trigger guard, the bolt and pressed into the shoulder stock. Shame that your stock was had that area rubbed out as mine has three big WA stamps in that position. My rifle may have the barrel plug a tad deeper as I can put enert rounds into the magazine and the bolt pushes them out far enough for me to pull them out by hand, no tool needed.
Cheers Al..yeh my good one if you like....has a H stamp obviously for 'Heer', I just forgot to mention it. Yes Arundel I've used myself, actually I think my decent k98 was from them, I also bought my bren from them....decent dealers in my opinion. I think my DOU is a czech made k98 again I forgot to mention it. I might try the inert rounds in the yugo bolt one...mind you I will probably get the inerts jammed !🙂🙂🙂
Great rifles! Too bad about the bolt on the first one, it’s interesting how it’s able to close though as the action lengths of the k98 and the M48 are different. The reason your cleaning rod won’t fit into your bayonet may be due to the fact that the cleaning rod is a replacement. The Russians got rid of a number of parts during the refurbishment process, including the sight hood, cleaning rod, as well as the capture screws, so the rod on your rifle is probably a replacement. Perhaps it’s from a different model, and as a result, isn’t the perfect fit. Dirt or grime in the hole on the bayonet might be the cause as well. Great video though, thanks for sharing!
@@steelhelmetstan7305 Perhaps to re-use the metal? Or to save time during the refurbishment process as it’s a pain to screw all the components in and get the sight hood on
Hi Stan with my Russian capture k98 I can't twist the rod off. I am too scared to force it in case I damage it. Do the rods all have different threads?
Cheers Anvil m8...ah so a common problem maybe...I reckon I'd be a bit pit out if I had to fix bayonets as a last line of defence and I couldn't get the bugger on!!!🤣🤣🤣, probably leave the rod out in the field I reckon 🙂
@@steelhelmetstan7305 The rods are often missing. I decided to take the one I'd bought that didn't fit to Stoneleigh where I found the right one with the smaller thread by comparing. I ended up giving the broader one to a Polish fellow whose k98 it fitted. They were only £30 at the time. I imagine a lot of jackboots were emptied out into the field after a close combat situation.

Nice pair of rifles its a shame when dealers mislead the buyer thinking you've got a genuine piece and its not what it seems.
