Not to mention increases in maintenance of the vehicles and insurance.
Uber/lyft would rather paying huge amount of money for lawsuits instead of paying the drivers a living wages. 🖕
Yup most corporations like these would rather run themselves into the ground than pay a living wage 😂 but that’s what they deserve when they pay their “independent contractors “ dirt wages and make the customers pay sky high prices.
If we're still viewed as independent contractors, then shouldn't the gig driver also determine the retail price of the ride as well to stay profitable--rather than letting Uber/Lyft determine the price!?
Prop22 essentially bypasses that. The requirement for independent contractors was the ability to adjust pricing. Props 22 categories drivers as somewhere in between independent contractors and employees.
This is a complete failure of voters especially gig workers inability to read the law and supported props 22. I vividly remember arguing against gig workers about the proposition. They voted against their self interest.
I also saw through this in 2020 and voted no on 22 as well. It’s a shame but unsurprising that Uber/Lyft managed to convince drivers and the public that their jobs were “so at risk if they didn’t vote yes on 22”. Yo like the drivers jobs are at risk anyway when there’s absolutely zero protections for the drivers when they get fake reported 😂 working 1 day and out the next!
Also they took away the option for drivers to choose the rate after the first year prop 22 was running. Prop 22 was a joke from the beginning, it was made by Uber and Lyft only to benefit them.
that was stated in the video.
Don’t be scared by this company’s if there is no drivers Uber will no make money. You have the power drivers
if you make a career out of Lift/uber , then you have FAILED in life
There’s gonna be a lot of illegal immigrants to fill those positions. Even if they go employee status.
Wrong. The corporations have ALL the power, ALL of the coin, and all of the connections. Drivers ain't nothin' to 'em. They'll be replaced by algorithms by EOY 2026. 💪😎✌️
@@Novastar.SaberCombat sounds like you blame other people for your unhappy sadness ?
They are literaly criminals, stealing drivers money
100%
apparently I had two customers in a row who both decided to tip me exactly 6.26 today.
I had a customer check to see if I got their tip as I was dropping off their order. I told them that the order I took was $ and they were like “that’s not the tip I gave you. It was more than that…” and we talked and she had a feeling that Uber Eats was stealing wages. She gave me a $20 bill for my time as well. I was blessed that day
Wow, that is totally believable. I had a customer tip me the other day $40 to deliver a pizza 5 miles away from the pizza place cause I had to wait a bit of time in the restaurant and of course at that point Uber put me in slow motion, as if they paid that themselves, what all of us need to just quit and then show them who is in charge here
Not to say this didn’t happen but many times people enter in their tip incorrectly. I would have her actually show me her phone and the amount she entered.
Who is this guy talking about the flexibility of him riding his bike through San Francisco? Does he have any idea what’s right? He’s given up.
I’m all in for a hybrid model. I love working when I want, yet it’s not fair that Uber/Lyft have been slowly stripping away benefits or simply making it harder for drivers to have these benefits. Time for a change, especially with the prices of auto insurance and gas prices going up while Uber/Lyft continually give super lowballing fares and steal tips. NorCal driver here.
Uber barely wants to pay prop as it is literally
Personally, having done gig work for 2 years, I prefer the contractor status and love Prop 22. I left full time work in 2021 after my F/T employer was bought by another company in SF. I run 4 apps: UberEats, DoorDash, Roadie and Wag! and work when I want. Getting paid to walk dogs and deliver is funemployment after 30+ years working behind a desk.
Prop22 means gig workers will always make more than minimum wage.
Sounds great to me when they usually make $5-10 a hour.
If they rule drivers to be employees is there a transition period before it goes into effect.
Good question. I am assuming effective Jan of 2025.
I’m sure there will be. CA will not let Uber/Lyft just shut off their app overnight to 1.9 million drivers. That would cause complete chaos. Honestly the way things are looking is the justices will try and figure out a compromise and amend the prop to build in additional benefits and protections.
My LAST ( and last) delivery for UBER took 34 minutes with my $34,000.00 car. UBER paid me $3.80 or $7.60 per hour. Hourly expense is $5.00. so $2.60 per hour. That was my final Uber eats. Workers need PROTECTION. Uber does not disclose most terms of contract to workers.
Corrupt corporations hold all of the coin, connections, crews, clout, computer code, and control. If you want to succeed, be rich. If you can't be rich, then just become wealthy. It's the only way to rise above all the paupers, plebs, and pathetic peasants. 💪😎✌️
Resolve people’s job should be the responsibility of the government and city, not from UBer and lyft, what the city and council now only do is setup new laws to easy their work. If jobs are enough the Uber should rise their salaries.
Get rid of prop 22 ! Coming from an Uber eats driver. Or customers will need to tip. I don’t want tips (although they’re nice) I want to be payed fair.
Lmao all these drivers are going to have no job if they get this through.
May go private or shutdown.
Uber for sure used to be a private company which paid drivers way better before it went publicly shared which then became all about filling the pockets of shareholders, definitely doesn’t mix well with daily transportation.
the root cause of the issue is capitalism! capitalism builds the usa, but at the same time capitalism is slowly ' k 1 l l 1 n g ' the usa. however we are seeing the affect of capitalism ' k i l l i n g ' the usa. the best example is ev!
usa car corps make car to make high profit, but china makes ev affordable for the common people!
china is actually winning the usa at its own game - capitalism!
And when the gig companies leave they are going to be crying. And these side gigs that's what they are side gigs not a full time thing.
They will never leave California…it’s their biggest money maker in their company
I started GIG work in 2013.. it definitely use to be more than a side gig job. They have been cutting pay way before Prop 22.. when I started, over $15 was the minimum we would make for each delivery.. now it's down to $3 after Prop 22. Also we had more deliveries from customers that we could handle. Postmates would send us data saying 1000's of order would go unfilled because not enough couriers were working..
I started working for Uber in 2017 and made in 7 hours what it takes me 12 hours to make today. Uber is cutting the wages. They got rid of the multiplier surge after prop 22 when they said they will keep it. And still charge the customer the same. I took someone from the airport to Dana point last week and he paid 113 dollars and I was paid 38 when before Uber only took a 20 percent cut do the math people. Uber and Lyft are steeling from there drivers and trying to scare us into submission saying that they will leave California if prop 22 is changed. Good luck with that. I know another company will be happy to create an app if they do.
Employee status is not the way to go. This needs to be hybrid combination of IC and extended benefits and pay. The state of CA and unions have their own motives for us to become Employees. They will then get their payroll taxes which is what they are most concerned about.
Exactly! They want employees so more tax revenues for them!
@@psylee8687 Dude you pay 15% in taxes as an independent contractor. For an employee to pay 12%, they would have to make over $700k that year. Do you not understand that you are paying WAY MORE taxes than you would as an employee...
@@Saltchan you know that we have a thing called write offs being an IC right. You should be paying very little in taxes being a ride share driver after all of the deductions are added in. This definitely won’t be the case if you are an employee.
All construction contractors have to have employees no 1099 and then the Home Depot parking lots are full of people who just don’t care about any rules. So if there’s zero enforcement of the rules then who cares? And then We who follow rules feel punished for doing so. Also workmen’s comp is mandatory with employees.. and although “No fault” because contracting is inherently high risk.. all they do is place blame. What’s the deal?
The "deal" is simple. If you ain't rich, then you ain't sheet. 💪😎✌️ In order to become rich, you gotta be DIRTY. If you're all about ethics, humanity, fairness, employees, etc., then you'll LOSE. Losers are poor, winners are rich. Be rich, or else you ain't sheet. 💵🇱🇷💵 Health is wealth; might is right.
Gig work is Supposed to be “extra income” not a career
30% of full time ridershare drivers do 70% rides.
it lets men and women feed their kids. Its the difference between chrismas or no chrismas for families. Drivers deserve at least 60% and they work hard for that money. So stfu
Prop 22 is what we want and voted for. These people dont speak for GIG workers. The guy saying 60-70 hours a week is full of it.
He’s right. In order for me to make 700 or more a week I need to be online for about 70 hours.
@davidlee1467 No I actually drive and work. This guy clearly doesn't
Uber and Lyft’s statements are more than 100% false! It’s all fear marketing and bluffing. They can afford to pay us drivers more. Even as an employee, there is nothing in the law that prevent flexibility.
exactly. I hear so many drivers talking about how they don't want to be w-2 workers because they don't want to have to clock in and out, as if there is some law that mandates that w-2 workers maintain strict schedules.
@@jojothetasmaniansassmonkey8866 the main issue is having to pay 1.9 million drivers employee benefits which would be crazy. I’m all for driver benefits however if this gets overturned we will see 80% less drivers due to cost of being an employee. Being an employee is not the way to go. A hybrid of remaining an IC with extended benefits and pay is what is needed.
@@rockypatacchi being an employee does not mean that you have to get benefits (i've had w-2 jobs without healthcare or benefits). But it does make it slightly harder to fire you for no reason, and it does make your employer have some liability if you get hurt and/or are part of an accident on the job (meaning that drivers wouldn't have to pay ridiculous premiums on getting their own commercial insurance policy to get adequate coverage when working).
!
Uber and gig work was never suppose to be a full time job, it’s a side gig. If you don’t like it, find a proper job.
So you think taxi services is not a real job? Better hope you don’t need Uber/Lyft then! Don’t be crying when you’re left to hitch hike 😂.
I mean... You all voted to stay contract workers... LOL... Duh.
It is true. At the time prop 22 was on the ballot, up to 70 percent of drivers wanted to stay independent. The main sticking point: the flexibility to turn on the app whenever.
And its been great. These people are just idiots. Its that simple.
Wow the drivers they found don't know what they're talking about.
This is what they voted for, why are they surprised.
Big tech company can easily manipulate the outcome of a vote to their favor
@@davidlee1467how is Freedom to work on your own schedule manipulated? If you want a W-2, just go become a taxi cab driver… Why do you have to use your own vehicle as an employee? Is Uber now going to give you gas cards to fuel up your vehicle every night? Are they going to pay for your vehicle maintenance? No they are not.
And that’s what happened in 2020. I voted no then and I hope people wake up and vote no this year, it’s the only way to defeat Uber and Lyfts greedy tactics. And being classified as gig workers has generated so much disrespect for us that the general public think that what we do is not a real job. It’s a real job to transport people and goods safely, and in itself the convenience of ordering a ride or a delivery at anytime!
Government needs to stop putting their nose in on eveerything oh and get this, maybe get an actual job?

For those idiots that want benefits on gig works get a real job and stop complaining YES ON PROP 22
What's your take on Uber/Lyft taking 60% of the fare?
@@davidlee1467 I agree with you that 60% is definitely an overreach. However, these are not careers… These will all be autonomous vehicles within 5 to 7 years. This is not a retirement job… This is supposed to be supplemental income to your traditional W-2.
I even voted no on 22 in the 2020 elections. A lot of uniformed voters and combined with Uber/Lyft ‘s ad campaigns to vote yes on 22 is what happened. Prop 22 was made by Uber/Lyft to only benefit them, not the drivers. While they were dangling the carrot of the promise of being an independent contractor, which is a total lie; we can’t set our own rates, hard to get any benefits unless you reach a very particular criteria, and well.. we can get fired from our own business from a fake report 😂. So I’m all for a hybrid model but with more protections for the drivers along with proper background checks.
go get a real job if you have skills other than driving.
Ummm there’s a lot of jobs that are only driving. If you think driving is not a real job you’re crazy 😂 . Transporting people and products is an actual job bro.
get a REAL Job people. 8 years ago i was making 55/60 bucks an hour for. Then drivers started complaining about the LACK of benefits.... There are risk with anything in life, one them having the freedom to earn on your own time with LESS government hassle. Learn a skill and get a real job people.
If these aren't real jobs, are these wealthy companies making fake jobs?
pay didn't go down because of drivers complaining. It went down because apps were paying more at the start in order to gain marketshare.
Transporting people is a real job, and it’s takes a lot of skill and safety measures to get people and goods to the destination safely. Tell me now that’s it’s not a real job. Tell that next time you get on a bus, train, truck, taxi (and yes that includes Uber/Lyft), and the ambulance! Sure go up to them and tell them to get a real job! Don’t be asking for a ride anymore if that’s what you actually think 😂
@@VivK-mt7kj nope. Did it for 6 years while also having a full time Job with benefits. You rely on income from corporations. I don’t, I pave my own way.
