It's the stacks, don't you get it? Nicking is hardly done at all anymore since most Saddlebreds today now wear cap wigs and or a cap wig with a switch, that gives the same high set long tail look. Morgan_Horse well it's not. Only certain horses will make a great 5-gaited ASB, they are normally chosen at the age of a foal if they are going to be a 5 gaited or 3-gaited

I have been keeping/riding Icelandic ponies - a lot of them are five-gaited: walk, trot, gallop, running walk (Tölt/tjöld) and amble (Passgang). But which is the fifth gait of the Saddle Horse?
@@AntimonyxAngel As a long-time owner of Icelandic horses (= ponies/some of them are really five-gaited >>>5th gait = amble), I claim that slow gait and rack are the same gaits because the hooves touch down in the same order (succession) in both gaits. That is why "five-gaited" horses are actually only four-gaited. I wonder if there is somebody who is able to refute (disprove) this theory.
Before you make a comment research because this is one of the most popular and historical sports in the world and don't make rude comments without checking please
This is copied directly from ASHA. "There was continual crossing with Thoroughbreds, along with other breeds including Arabian and Morgan. Thus, when the first horse shows were held in Kentucky and Virginia in the early 1800s, American Saddlebreds, generally referred to as Kentucky Saddlers at that time, were frequently judged the winners because of their beauty, style and utility."
I admittedly know little about the Gaited Breeds. Been with TB and Paints since I could walk. I can appreciate the hundreds of hours spent in the saddle to achieve this quality of training. But a question??? Do the judges not consider the riders seat, hands, legs as they are marking? Is it strictly about the horse's movement?
Elizabeth Ferguson No they don’t. In classes like these, the horse is the only thing that matters, as this is a performance class. Form of the rider is judged in equitation classes.
Voldemort it’s to see their reaction, to it. A part of saddleseat is desensitization. For example, using baby powder, plastic bags and more aids (like arena footing) won’t distract them. If this doesn’t make any sense let me know!
Not really. The American Saddlebred includes the Narragansett Pacer, Canadian Pacer, Morgan and Thoroughbred among its ancestors. The breed has been around since the 1800s.
I will never understand saddleseat riding (correct me if I’m wrong) 😭. Whatever gait this is called, trot or their fifth gait (I have no idea I just ride English) looks so hard to sit 😂
slow gait and rack are actually super comfortable to ride if you have a good gaited horse i know this as i have my own gaited horse and it is super easy to sit
Not hard to sit at all! A good gaited horse you can hold a glass of water and not spill a drop that’s how smooth it is! Once you rack you’ll never go back is the saying, and it really holds true! I hope someday you get the opportunity to give it a try. I’m sure you’ll have a Cheshire Cat grin from ear to ear!
It's easier to tell in the trot rather than a rack, in the saddlebred world we look for a bold, "square" trot simply meaning an even and balanced trot.
If they are as smooth as they are supposed to be,then why are some of these riders posting and looking like they are getting rough rides? I've owned gaited horses for years,no one really is supposed to be bouncing up and down out of the saddle at any speed if a horse is smooth gaited. If so,there's no need to have one IMO.not at the rack, but,at some of the other gaits called.
+Heather Watson Well because that really is not that important in this class, teh rider is not judge, it is the horse 100%. Yes but of course the rider has a grat deal to do with how well the horse is shown.. But this is not an equitation class, they exist here also at this show.
+Morgan_Horse Well that is incorrect but in a ASB 5 Gaited class the horse is judged not the rider or whether the rider is on the correct diagonal or not.
+Anna Piper This class is the 5 GAITED STAKE CLASS, WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS----IT IS A PERFORMANCE CLASS! These horses are athletic, in better condition then the majority of race horses, they perform longer at very fast speeds then most thoroughbred races.
NO. You are thinking Tennessee Walking Horses. These are American Saddlebreds. Two completely different breeds. This action is natural in Saddlebreds. The only thing that might be done is add a low pad to the front hooves to act as a shock absorber of sorts, and put overreach boots on front. That's the sum of it.
This is not a pleasure class so the horses do not need to flat walk and in classes like this horses and riders aren’t judged as heavily on the walk saddlebreds can also jog or pace instead of walking unless the rules state the horse has to walk I know this because I have a five gaited horse who purposely doesn’t compete in pleasure cause he won’t walk flat
@ceilingunlimited-cp5kq. A lot of the big lick riders look like vultures crouching on the saddles and I was sorry to see some of the Saddle Bred riders looked similar. Are the riders showing these gorgeous horses less talented than the ones in equitation? It is hard for the uninitiated to separate the riders ability from the looks and gains of the horse
+Denuse Shephard Welcome----their intelligence is exceptional, they like people, they are very athletic, they learn very quick, they were the chosen mounts of many of the officers on both sides during the civil war.
Adam Levin and your happy to stand by your favourite horse being abused because they put boiling stuff on their hooves to make their legs go higher than normal in which results to; back pain problems in the back back breakige
yennifer Not 100% on why damaging an animals legs would result in back damage or ‘back breakige’ whatever that is. Also, these horses aren’t sored at all because soring is only used on Tennessee Walking Horses to exaggerate the gait known as the ‘Big Lick’ which is impossible for the American Saddlebred to perform. Please educate yourself.
yennifer How about you go to a damn Saddleseat barn and learn yourself. How about you do some research. I live and work in this industry. You know nothing. You’re an uneducated idiot if you think this is the breed that’s sored. Tennessee Walking horses and American Saddlebreds are two extraordinarily breeds. It would be pointless to sore a Saddlebred because it WOULDN’T DO ANYTHING. Soring is ONLY used to exaggerate a gait called the BIG LICK. Which is IMPOSSIBLE for a SADDLEBRED HORSE TO PERFORM. These horse can walk, trot, canter, rack and slow gait. They cannot perform the Big Lick because it is physically impossible. Why don’t you protest this where it is actually happening instead of creaming yourself in a comment section about AMERICAN SADDLEBREDS which are not TENNESSEE WALKING HORSES. There is a five gaited horse where I ride that is not sored. She doesn’t even have shoes on yet she still performs just as well as these horses. This high step is 100% natural. You know nothing about the Saddlebred industry so stop pretending like you do.
Cal i understand and know that there are horses that naturally lift they legs higher and it is very beautiful. i hope u are right that the horses that are performing aren't abused but some horses maybe even all are abused which make me very sceptical of horses lifting there legs high. i did not mean to offend u if i did i just want to warn people that abuse can be held in these places.
yennifer Well maybe you should educate yourself before you run your mouth. And, by the way, if you don’t mean to offend someone maybe don’t call them an asshole horse abuser next time.
These horses are pretty amped up and they will not transition immediately, nor are they expected to. And frequently the rider will try to get one more trotting pass in front of the judge if he can. Only in Equitation or Pleasure classes will you see immediate obediance.
Why do they all look like they're so uncomfortable and it looks as though they're swinging off the horses head. They may not be, but that's what it looks like.
Terri Pankovich You’re thinking of Tennessee Walking Horses. These are American Saddlebreds. Nothing is done to these horses. They’re not in pain, this high-step is actually quite natural.
Elizabeth Friday no actually they have burning things on their hooves to make the legs go higher so it makes their back very bad and painful. they also have a lot of back problems because of this.
Shelane Chaddick yes they do. because they put boiling stuff on their hooves that make their legs go higher so their backs do have many problems and hurt them incredebly
+yennifer You are thinking of walking horses. Putting acid the legs is NOT something that is practiced in saddle seat. Please do your research before trying to tell others that they're wrong. 😊
Can someone explain to me why on earth these competitors are doing running up each others backsides - its a mess. They should be spaced out & they obviously don't listen to what is required in pace & react accordingly ? In UK dressage if you over letters required you disqualified
Heather Blakeway To repeat why Dog said, this isn’t dressage. However, I do agree with you. This happens to me a lot in the show ring too (I’m a Saddleseat rider) and it’s very, very annoying. As far as I can understand, it’s to throw you off, but I never do this to anyone myself. Saddleseat shows and classes can get pretty nasty and competitive. You get run up on and cut off a lot too. I actually find it pretty annoying.

+Little Miss Sunshine lol they aint natural ^^ they have been bred to run like that. their are also about 20 different horse breeds who have been bred to 5 gait horses... just as cruel as for the tennesse horses and saddle bred. people mostly talk bout the cruelty owners do to the feet.soaking them in oil and other painfull nasty shit, wich is normally used for tennesse horse but also saddlebred, it ocours less to saddlebreds. but the abuse does not stop there. since all most 5 gaited horsebreeds (such as saddlebred and tennesse walking horse ) are bred to stretch out, keep their hindlegs low and put their heads way up high. this is the most painfull position for a horse to be, yet even support a rider in that position. if you cant see the pain you are beyond help... ive seen a million of those horses. and all the same, pain ,pain ,pain!! people dont see it or dont wanna see it because it is a "tradition". its sick in my eyes...
plus i dont know why, but people are eager to justifie their actions by telling it is okay since it has been used for decades. anybody who knows a little bout horse anatomy knows that the humanrace krippelt these horses...
Erica lastnema The article you have posted is about Tennessee Walkers. These are American Saddlebreds. Two totally different breeds. Erica lastnema These horses are high steppers, they were bred to move this way not forced or sored. I had a Morgan, a normally shod Morgan he wasn't overshod to make him rack, he showed in huntseatAnd why must saddle bred people sore their horses, over shoe them, break their tails ect all to make them "showy". Arabian people feel the need to completely shave their horses faces and bodies then lube them all up. I just don't get it. I didn't like what some Morgan breeders did to get their gaited horses to rack, so I left the breed and got a Dutch Warmblood to do show jumping, dressage and eventing. No high shoes, soreing or tail manipulation and he had a gorgeous passage and piaffe and huge extended trot he floated! Now that's my kind of naturally beautiful horse!
+EquestrianEquitation ASB's have to shift some of their weight on to the hind legs to drive forward and be able to lift their front legs. Also they tend to be wide and muscular in the front, which acts as a fulcrum for the lower leg to be raised up on each stride. If you over do it with shoes it actually interferes more.
+canterwood equestrian centre They do not burn the hooves. A horse with burned hooves would show soreness at the trot and not be square. As all saddlebred horses have to perform a square trot in the show, that would make soreing completely counter-productive. I'm not saying it can't happen, but the horses that are in these shows, on top of being drug tested, are not sored.
+Anna Glin They aren't actually. They can only walk, trot and canter. Granted they do have a nice animated trot like the ASB, but no purebred Morgan can rack.

I have been keeping/riding Icelandic ponies - a lot of them are five-gaited: walk, trot, gallop, running walk (Tölt/tjöld) and amble (Passgang). But which is the fifth gait of the Saddle Horse?
The 4th and 5th gaits are: the Slow Gait, and the Rack.
I've always wanted to ride an Icelandic pony!!
How fun to watch! I grew up riding saddlebreds! God they are gorgeous. Miss it! Thank you for posting!
Before you make a comment research because this is one of the most popular and historical sports in the world and don't make rude comments without checking please
Such elegance ❤❤❤
The American saddlebred (asb) is one of my fav breeds!!!❤

Cal
Thanks for the information. Always room to learn.
In gaited classes no, in pleasure classes kinda, in eq classes YES
@@mayarussell thanks Maya. I appreciate the detailed breakdown.💖
Would have loved to hear her speech again! She obviously loves that mare a whole lot! Well deserved!
why do they keep throwing the green stuff in front of each horse? Is it to keep them looking in that direction?
Voldemort it’s to see their reaction, to it. A part of saddleseat is desensitization. For example, using baby powder, plastic bags and more aids (like arena footing) won’t distract them. If this doesn’t make any sense let me know!
They’re using the green shavings to get the horse’s ears up
the music makes me uncomfortable
It sounds like carnival music
You will find such music at all the Saddlebred events. It is played to correspond with the rhythm of the gaits on the horses.
this is like a really weird slightly funny fever dream
Surely it's the organ music 😆
Saddlebreds are not sored hardly any of them need any weight at all they naturally do this and the horses love doing this kind of sport
Christine McIntosh omg there's at least one person here who knows their stuff!!!
Marc of Charm, local man💕
Also, why does it look like all their saddles are sliding off backwards?
The riders slide back and forth in their saddles - perhaps this could be prevented with buckskin leather (saddle and breeches) and by riding slowly.
Beautiful breed. do they.have Hackney blood? this would give the high step
Yes, they do have Hackney blood.
Not really. The American Saddlebred includes the Narragansett Pacer, Canadian Pacer, Morgan and Thoroughbred among its ancestors. The breed has been around since the 1800s.
Absolutely love Saddlebreds! I love my TWH too though 😂❤
are they easier to handle than the mares in the ring
It depends on the individual horse.
Christena McIntosh..... You are right on. I like your name.
that horse got some high legs
Marc of Charm was absolutely captivating, I couldn't take my eyes away
For me it looks so unusual, I wanna say almost unnatural how they sit on their horses. But the horses are stunning.
I should like to send them a pair of scissors for the tails which are too long --- hahaha!
Not entirely too long lol. When not showing they are tied up with some strands hanging out to swat flies. Sometimes they are even fake lol
are stallions ever used
Yes... Marc of Charm is a stallion
Sometimes there are even certain classes just for geldings and stallions!
how can i tell if there paces are correct and true
It's easier to tell in the trot rather than a rack, in the saddlebred world we look for a bold, "square" trot simply meaning an even and balanced trot.
If they are as smooth as they are supposed to be,then why are some of these riders posting and looking like they are getting rough rides? I've owned gaited horses for years,no one really is supposed to be bouncing up and down out of the saddle at any speed if a horse is smooth gaited. If so,there's no need to have one IMO.not at the rack, but,at some of the other gaits called.
5-gaited horses are shown at a trot as well as the smooth slow gait and rack.
Because the Saddlebred is a five-gaited horse. It trots as well as gaits.
Trots on a show horse are almost entirely impossible not to bounce. They naturally pick their feet up so high that you have to bounce on trot.
Foxtrotters are a great ride
when you trot in saddle seat you have to post
What is the name of this faction and where is it located?
So if these are supposed to be champions, how come most the riders have no idea what diagonal to be on?
+Heather Watson Well because that really is not that important in this class, teh rider is not judge, it is the horse 100%. Yes but of course the rider has a grat deal to do with how well the horse is shown.. But this is not an equitation class, they exist here also at this show.
Some show horses require riders to be on the wrong diagonal one way of the ring..
+Morgan_Horse Well that is incorrect but in a ASB 5 Gaited class the horse is judged not the rider or whether the rider is on the correct diagonal or not.
+Anna Piper this is not a pleasure class
+Anna Piper This class is the 5 GAITED STAKE CLASS, WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS----IT IS A PERFORMANCE CLASS! These horses are athletic, in better condition then the majority of race horses, they perform longer at very fast speeds then most thoroughbred races.
Is this not the horses that some people put stuff on their legs that hurt them to make them lift their legs up higher?
NO. You are thinking Tennessee Walking Horses. These are American Saddlebreds. Two completely different breeds.
This action is natural in Saddlebreds. The only thing that might be done is add a low pad to the front hooves to act as a shock absorber of sorts, and put overreach boots on front. That's the sum of it.
a trainer at my barn used to work with debbie and the winning horse 😄
who?

I love these horses they are gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous 😍
Super bred, I love American saddle bred too much and it's my favorite pleasure riding breed...
WTH am I watching? Why would anyone do this to a horse?
Wdym ride them ?
These horses have stolen my ❤️
The walk is one of the 5 gaits, however I only saw one horse actually walking! What is up with that?
That's not their walk. The gait they do in the show ring if I call correctly isnt the walk trot or canter.
Awww I love Marc Of Charm he is one of my fav horses besides Sultans Santana
+Anna Glin yes they are
Those gaits 😍😍😍 There all so stunning!
the most beautiful horse breed ever!
Look at some of these riders their posture looks like they are riding big lick!
It’s not an equitation class Honey. Only the horses are specifically being judged. Not the rider.
@ceilingunlimited-cp5kq. A lot of the big lick riders look like vultures crouching on the saddles and I was sorry to see some of the Saddle Bred riders looked similar. Are the riders showing these gorgeous horses less talented than the ones in equitation? It is hard for the uninitiated to separate the riders ability from the looks and gains of the horse
thank you for getting back to me also are these horses hot breaded because I have heard they can be temperamental
+Denuse Shephard Well they are not tempearmental but they are high energy and very intelligent.
Oh that's good to kno thank you for replying
+Denuse Shephard Welcome----their intelligence is exceptional, they like people, they are very athletic, they learn very quick, they were the chosen mounts of many of the officers on both sides during the civil war.
They are stars!
This horse is gorgeous but definitely not the one I would have pegged for first
please do not post evil coments there is one of my favorite horses in there
Adam Levin and your happy to stand by your favourite horse being abused because they put boiling stuff on their hooves to make their legs go higher than normal in which results to;
back pain
problems in the back
back breakige
yennifer Not 100% on why damaging an animals legs would result in back damage or ‘back breakige’ whatever that is.
ANyone here see the gopro footage from this show?
Back to the walk ... and they all continue trotting 🤔
These horses are pretty amped up and they will not transition immediately, nor are they expected to. And frequently the rider will try to get one more trotting pass in front of the judge if he can. Only in Equitation or Pleasure classes will you see immediate obediance.
These horses are absolutely beautiful! I just can’t keep up with their legs😂
Why do they all look like they're so uncomfortable and it looks as though they're swinging off the horses head. They may not be, but that's what it looks like.
It’s not an Equitation Class. Only the horses are specifically being judged. Not the rider.
@@ceilingunlimited-cp5kq Perhaps the riders SHOULD be getting judged if it's as bad as it appears tobe???

How much do you know about it
Se ve bonito pero la Realidad es otra les ponen accido en las pezuñas entre más dolor tengan más levantan las manitas
818 had the best equitation of all the riders! Very controlled and should have taken the championship
eq does not matter in gaited classes like this
I hate what they do to the horses feet and legs, very cruel. They need to stop it and just be normal
Terri Pankovich You’re thinking of Tennessee Walking Horses. These are American Saddlebreds. Nothing is done to these horses. They’re not in pain, this high-step is actually quite natural.
Altered hoofs, altered tails and riders that can not hold their own in saddle... What kind of championship is that?!
I’m not a fan of what they do to their tails...not necessary..
I won't wonder ,if theese horses have problems with their back..
Nope.
No they're fine actually. You can tell in their conformation
Nicked tails?
Nothing world-championshippy about it. No matter how much you cry "it's natuuuuuralll!" - it's not.

Trwmetro you are on the wrong video. This is ASB champs
These types of videos really should be re-labeled for those who dont know that these are abused and injured horses.
Can someone explain to me why on earth these competitors are doing running up each others backsides - its a mess. They should be spaced out & they obviously don't listen to what is required in pace & react accordingly ? In UK dressage if you over letters required you disqualified
This isn't dressage. In case you didn't notice.
Because you want one more pass on the judge. It's a showmanship thing.

Estos caballos son de una raza muy elegante pero no es natural como preparan las colas porque no se levantan asi naturalmente como hacen los caballos arabes. No entiendo porque seleccionaron solo los cuatro de color oscuro porque los dorados eran mas lindos.
?
+Anna Glin there is proof about this abuse i agree with Endertiger that i hate these shows you abuse horses if you have ridden one yourself
Just because Tennessee walking horse riders wear the same (theirs are improperly fitted) clothes as us doesn't mean we do what they do to our horses.
+Emily Life Your ignorance is showing through. You know nothing of what real saddleseat is. These are not Tennessee Walkers these are American Saddlebreds. What you see here is completely natural for them. I work at a saddlebred farm. These horses are pampered and are treated like kings and queens. Happy horses that love to show off.
you know nothing about american saddlebreds do you?!?! this gait is NATURAL to them and if you have ever rode an american saddlebred then you would know that you have to ride them a specific way. you are so ignorant and it is people like you who i never want to see comments from. i bet you have no clue about anything on american saddlebreds otherwise you wouldnt comment this!
It's sad the way these horses (most of them) are treated to get the HIGH STEPPING (unnaturally high)
Just one of many Vids and stories, Not saying all do it.
www.care2.com/causes/cruelty-exposed-in-gaited-horse-world.html
most gaited are miss treated to have a higher Step
Erica lastnema The article you have posted is about Tennessee Walkers. These are American Saddlebreds. Two totally different breeds. You're assumption that most gaited horses are mistreated is incorrect. If Saddlebreds were sored like the Walkers, they would be lame and wouldn't be capable of trotting. Please do some research before you go around assuming things you read online are true.
Erica lastnema These horses are high steppers, they were bred to move this way not forced or sored. Look on UA-cam for a baby American Saddlebred, a foal running at liberty with its dam and you will see this gait is totally natural to them. The article you posted does not mention this breed, not once. Your ignorance staggers me.
Ok So SORRY for getting the breeds mixed up!
SI ES QUE ESTAMOS LOOOOOCOS, QUE MANERA DE MANIPULAR A LOS POBRES CABALLOS. . . ME PREGUNTO A QUE NIVEL LES PERJUDICARÁ ESTE TIPO DE SELECCIONES. LOOOOCOS!!!!!
+EquestrianEquitation well, they BURN there horses hooves for it!end of story
Btw Morgan's aren't capable of being gaited
+Anna Glin They aren't actually. They can only walk, trot and canter. Granted they do have a nice animated trot like the ASB, but no purebred Morgan can rack.
Wtf is wrong with their tails? Looks very funny
They are wearing a cap wig and switch
OMFG DOES NOBODY SEE THE FUCKING THINGS ON THEIR HOOVES THAT ARE BURNING HOT POOR FUCKING HORSES
